RESPONSE ON STRAUB’S ARTICLE

I have engaged in so many workshops during my entire school days. Some of the experiences I had during this activity were especially peer reviews and teacher feedbacks. During my last semester, while English 1101 I have had good and bad experiences from peer reviews and teacher feedbacks. First experience from peer review- Peer reviews from my last English class was very awesome. Why do I say so? I have learned a lot from these group activities such as having the opportunity to act as a reader and share my views on peer’s writings. On the hand, there have been situations where I was allowed to share thoughts about writing from my perspective. Such a great experience even though some of my elaborations were not on point. Some bad experiences I had were that, people didn’t engage more like from straub’s article. Also some of us did not take peer feedbacks seriously because we thought they were not in the position to criticize our writings. Overall I will say I had a great time engaging in peer responses. This has elevated me to some point of my writings now. Quite apart from those peer workshops, teacher feedback was another great experience I have had. Receiving feedback from teacher was no exception. This helped me a lot in my writings because the teacher’s views boosted my constructions about establishing major ideas in a particular writing from the reader’s perception. The difference between editing and revision is that editing is the act of correcting, condensing or otherwise modifying a piece of writing, while revision is the act of reconsidering and altering something especially a piece of writing to improve one’s knowledge of that writing. For my point of view, I think doing both are more or less similar in one way or the other. This is because these two activities could be done after a first draft of thoughts is put down. Editing comes in to play here because while you revise those thoughts, it gives you the opportunity to edit while making it more understanding to a reader and also convey a message you are sending across. The brains will keep generating better ideas after revision which will enable you engage in editing. My concerns with peer work shopping are that we need to take this practice serious because it really helps in the writing process. It enables a writer get feedbacks from fellow students about that writing. I think feedbacks should be taken seriously and worked on. Like the popular saying “Two heads are better than one”. Looking at myself as a responder : From straub’s article he elaborated on the point “except you don’t just take the role of the nice roommate or the ever faithful friend and tell her what she needs to hear this all looks good, I wouldn’t change a thing”. Straub went on to suggest that we should look to help this friend, this roommate writer, this person in your class to get a good piece of writing. We should point to problems and areas of improvement, but do it in a constructive way. I think I see myself helping my peer to get a god piece of writing.

Lastly in straub’s article,” he went on to suggest that we use marginal comments and a note or letter at the end when engaging in suggestions. He went on to say marginal comments make it easy to give specific and immediate feedback.” Also he suggests we avoid plastering comments all over the writing; in between and all over the writing. I think from these suggesting listed above I therefore see myself engaging in some, and also avoid doing things that are unacceptable during this workshop.
