RESOLUTION No. FI-0015-11-12 SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF PROPOSAL BETWEEN THE HOBOKEN PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND THE HOBOKEN HISTORICAL MUSEUM RESOLVED, that the Hoboken Board of Education approves a proposal between the Hoboken Public Schools and the Hoboken Historical Museum (located at 1301 Hudson Street). The Hoboken Historical Museum will act as a supplementary resource for the Hoboken Public School curriculum. Offerings will include class trips to the Museum as well as walking tours and programs to be conducted in the classroom; coordination of Museum programs with state curriculum content standards for 2nd grade - Community requirements, and 4th grade - Local History requirements; and a dedication to infusing some of the richness and complexity of Hoboken’s history into the district’s curriculum. The Museum will offer up to 60 educational program visits for students of the Hoboken Public School District. Classes from Kindergarten through 12th grade will be invited to participate in a variety of educational programs and walking tours, which can be found on the Museum’s website, www.hobokenmuseum.org as well as in our printed Education Programs brochure. The charge for these programs is $65 per program per class. Total estimated cost if the District participates in all of the proposed 60 programs is $3,900 (This estimated total has been reduced from $6,440 under the 2011-2012 Agreement). The Museum will submit an invoice to the Board of Education on a monthly basis for payment of completed programs. It is our intention at the Hoboken Historical Museum to provide an in-depth, supplementary educational experience to the students of Hoboken. Themes of Community and Local History are critical to the development of civic identity and democratic participation, and through the Museum’s unique collection of artifacts and documents, we intend to provide students and teachers with additional resources in these endeavors. In addition, the Museum strives to thoughtfully evaluate the effectiveness of our programming and its relevance to the District’s educational objectives. As an evaluative tool, teachers will be provided with program evaluation forms at each Museum visit.
