CHAPTER 16 CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS – BUSHMASTER
16.1 This chapter provides basic and specific cleaning requirements for selected vehicles. Where there is a specific requirement or need to highlight particular problem areas detailed cleaning guides are provided as tables and figures in this chapter. Bushmaster vehicles are very complex pieces of machinery. While all contamination and QRM must be removed, the main areas of concern are: a. b. c. d. e. f. g. h. i. 16.3 external areas; cabin; rear cabin; engine and engine compartment suspension/wheel arches; winches, wire ropes and slings; tarpaulins; camouflage nets and tyres (new, old and spares).

All points are not specific to all bushmaster vehicles.
External Areas 16.4 The cleaning instructions for the bushmaster’s external areas, as illustrated in Figures 16-1 to 16-15, include the points detailed in Table 16-1.

Figure 16–15: Bushmaster Annex Lacing Table 16–1: Cleaning Instructions for the Bushmaster’s External Areas Serial 1 Comments or Tasks Windscreens, doors, tailgates and other areas have rubber seals that prevent water and dust ingress. These seals are to be pulled back, vacuumed and washed clean of all soil, plant and insect debris. Damaged seals should be inspected by AQIS and if necessary replaced or removed. Toolboxes/stowage compartments are to be emptied and cleaned. The rubber seals around the doors are to be inspected to ensure all soil, plant and insect matter is removed (refer Figures 16-2, 16-3, 16-5 to 16-7). The muffler intake cover is to be removed and the cavity cleaned. Remove the batteries (cranking and radio) from both sides of the vehicle and ensure the battery boxes and cradles are free of dirt, dust, plant and insect material. (refer Figure 16-3 ) The fuel tank is to be lowered to allow for cleaning and for inspection by AQIS staff. Leave lowered until AQIS inspection is completed. (refer Figure 16-4) The chassis is to be cleaned using flexible nozzle high-pressure water cleaning equipment. Particular attention is to be paid to small apertures which may act as reservoirs for soil, insect, snails and plant material. Additionally, check that no animals are hiding or nesting within the chassis. The drive shaft access plates/hull inspection plates are to be removed to facilitate inspection and cleaning (refer Figure 16-4) The drive shaft access port/hull inspection port are to be removed to facilitate inspection and cleaning Access areas for tail-light wiring and other fender apertures that may collect soil, plant and insect debris are to be cleaned. The external efflux vents are to be cleaned and free of QRM (refer Figure 16-8) All areas of the roof are to be cleaned and free of QRM. All hatches and the gun-ring to be cleaned extensively (refer Figures 16-9 to 1612) Technical Time (hours)

Comments or Tasks All damaged lights (internal and external), or lights where seals have not maintained their integrity, are to be removed so as to clean the light fittings. Wooden tools are to be wiped down and inspected for insect infestation. Any item that has termite infestation is to be destroyed. Items that have borer infestation are subject to AQIS scrutiny and fumigation before return to Australia. Metal tools are to be wiped clean of all soil, plant and insect matter. Degrease items as required to remove all grime and dirt, lightly oil and leave out for inspection. Tools may be re-oiled after inspection in consultation with the AQIS inspector. Fuel and water Jerry cans are to be removed and holders are to be cleaned. Straps and buckles are to be cleaned of all soil, plant and insect matter. Attention is to be paid to the loop areas of the straps, at the buckle end. The rear steps are to be removed and cleaned. The spare tyre is to be removed and cleaned as per “tyres” below. The spare tyre mount is to be cleaned prior to re-fitting of the spare tyre (refer Figure 16-12). The spare tyre cover is to be cleaned IAW paragraph 16.10. The annex canopy is to be removed and cleaned as per paragraph 16.10. The annex mounts are to be cleaned and free of QRM (refer Figures 16-13 to 16-15).

Cabin 16.5 The cleaning instructions for the bushmaster’s cabin, as illustrated in Figure 16-16, include the points detailed in Table 16-2.

The cabin area is to be vacuumed and air-blown clean. The velcro around the windscreen is to be brushed clean of all plant, seed and insect matter. Seatbelts are to be fully extended and wiped clean (refer Figure 16-17). Plastic floor matting (if fitted) is to be removed and will require a highpressure water clean to remove all soil, plant and insect matter. If the mat is damaged or badly soiled, disposal in-country is recommended. All floor plates are to be removed to facilitate cleaning. Plates are to be left unfitted until inspected by AQIS (refer Figure 16-18). The water tank is to be removed. Both tank and tank mount to be cleaned and left unfitted until inspected by AQIS (refer Figure 16-19). All air filters (air-conditioner ventilation duct, etc) to be removed and high-pressure air-cleaned (refer Figure 16-20). Remove all air ducting to facilitate cleaning. All CES is to be removed from internal shelving and to be individually cleaned. All stowage shelving is to be cleaned and inspected prior to replacing the CES (refer Figure 16-21). CAUTION
ENGINE COMPONENTS Ensure that any engine openings/breathers/etc are taped or plugged to stop ingress of water prior to commencing cleaning.

Comments or Tasks The font grill cover is to be opened to allow access to the engine compartment. (refer Figure 16-22) The lower grill cover is to be removed to allow access to the engine sump area. The lower grill mesh cover is to be cleaned by either high pressure water or steam cleaned. (refer Figure 16-23) The radiator is to be opened to facilitate cleaning with high-pressure air and low-pressure water and, if necessary, hand-pick seed and insect matter from the radiator grill Remove the air cleaner element and ensure the element and housing are clean and free of foreign material. All filters are to be removed to facilitate cleaning with high-pressure air and low-pressure water and, if necessary, hand-pick seed and insect matter from the radiator grill. If determined to be un-cleanable, dispose of in accordance with AQIS directions. (refer Figure 16-24) The power pack is to be removed to allow for cleaning and for cleaning of the engine bay (refer Figure 16-25) Ensure any engine openings/breathers are taped or plugged to stop ingress of water. Ensure the starter motor and alternator are covered and taped to stop ingress of water. Do not direct high-pressure water jets at any of the engine openings/breathers, or at any of the electrical/electronic components.

Clean the engine compartment to ensure they are free of dust, built-up dirt and grease, insect and plant material. Ensure that the exhaust and hose connections are taped prior to cleaning. (refer Figure 16-26) Clean the fuel pump to ensure it is free of dust, built-up dirt and grease, insect and plant material. (refer Figure 16-27) Clean the dirt from the brake disc flutes (refer Figure 16-28). Clean the dirt from the brake chamber recess (refer Figure 16-29).

Suspension/Wheel Arches 16.8 The specific cleaning instructions for Bushmaster’s suspension/wheel arches, as illustrated in Figures 16-30 and 16-31, include those points detailed in Table 16–5.

Table 16–5: Cleaning Instructions for the Bushmaster’s Suspension/Wheel Arches Serial 1 2 3 Comments or Tasks The outer wheel assemblies are to be removed from the axles to facilitate cleaning. Ensure the spring brake housing assemblies mounted on the axles are clean and free from mud, dirt, plant and other debris. Mud and other debris collect in the spring seat, where the spring is mounted to the axle assembly, and is difficult to remove from the base of the rear springs. Ensure that this area is cleaned well using pressure washer. Ensure rear suspension rocker beam mounts on the frame are clean and free of soil, plant and insect material. Thoroughly clean the area inside the body panelling, in the wheel arches, adjacent to the intermediate and rear wheel assemblies. The mudguard inner covers (both left and right front wheel arches) are to be removed. Ensure that these areas are cleaned using a pressure washer (refer Figure 16-30). Remove the mudflaps and pay attention to cleaning around the attachment points (refer Figure 16-31). Technical Time (hours)

Winches, Wire Ropes and Slings 16.9 The cleaning instructions for winches, wire ropes and slings, as illustrated in Figure 16-32, include the point detailed in Table 16-6.

Tarpaulins 16.10 The cleaning instructions for tarpaulins include the points detailed in Table 16-7. Table 16–7: Cleaning Instructions for Camouflage Nets Serial 1 Comments or Tasks All tarpaulins are to be given a brush down, brush scrubbing and hose cleaning, paying particular attention to the seam areas and then hung so as not to contact the ground for drying; All ropes and universal dispatch straps are to be extended to their full length and wiped or washed clean of all soil, plant and insect matter; Canvas bags are to be turned inside out and checked for burrs, seeds and insects; Poles, knuckles and pegs are to be subject to a high-pressure water clean to remove all soil, plant and insect matter (ants, spiders and mud wasps are of particular concern); If tarpaulins have not been used during the entire deployment, then the requirement is for tarpaulins to be unrolled, brushed and swept clean to ensure no vermin or insect infestation and then subject to an AQIS inspection. Camouflage Nets 16.11 The cleaning instructions for camouflage nets include the points detailed in Table 16-8. 16–8: Cleaning Instructions for Camouflage Nets Serial 1 Comments or Tasks Removal of grass and debris may be achieved by use of a petrol powered blower/vacuum in the first instance, use of water should be avoided Heavily soiled camouflage nets may require further scrubbing and a dip in an approved detergent/ disinfectant (one in 20 solution). This has been achieved in the past by using trailers with required additive Depending on the degree of contamination and diligence in the cleaning process, camouflage nets may require three or more trailer dips to achieve the required AQIS clearance Drying is to be achieved by hanging the camouflage net so that it does not come into contact with the ground Nets are to be inspected to ensure that all plant material is removed Camouflage poles are to be brushed or swept clean; and metal joiners are to be removed cleaned and inspected by AQIS officers Technical Time (hours)

Tyres (New, Old and Spares) 16.12 The cleaning instructions for Tyres (New, Old and Spares) include the points detailed in Table 16-9. Table 16–9: Cleaning Instructions for Tyres (New, Old and Spares) Serial 1 2 Comments or Tasks All tyres are to be washed and scrubbed to remove all QRM. Damaged tyres are to be inspected by AQIS, who will determine their suitability for return to Australia. If necessary, damaged tyres (for example, perished, cracked or split) are to be removed and disposed of in accordance with the tyre disposal policy; Cracked tyres have the risk of containing QRM therefore perished tyres are to be subject to disposal. All tyres are to be treated with an approved residual insecticide after cleaning Fitted tyres that are damaged should be replaced with new tyres. Used and fitted tyres on rims are to be individually verified that the tyres are on rims, inflated with beading sealed and that the tyres are clean, free of water and other quarantine risk material. Tyres that are not fitted to rims are to be stored in such a manner that water cannot collect inside the tyre. The preferred AQIS solution is that tyres are stored within containers. Tyres not fitted on rims will require fumigation on return to Australia. AQIS considers a Non-Commercial consignment of tyres to contain a maximum of 8 tyres (inclusive of the wheels on the vehicle) and be imported with an accompanying vehicle. If tyres are to be transported back to Australia in containers or crates, please refer to the AQIS internet site (http://www.daff.gov.au/) ICON (Import Conditions Database) for the commodity “tyres”. All areas of the log book storage area to be cleaned (refer Figures 16B-16 to 16B-17). All floor plates are to be removed to facilitate cleaning. Plates are to be left unfitted until inspected by AQIS (refer Figure 16-18). The speaker and wiring located in the rear left internal corner are to be cleaned of QRM (refer Figure 16B-19). 1. This chapter provides basic and specific cleaning requirements for selected vehicles. Where there is a specific requirement or need to highlight particular problem areas detailed cleaning guides are provided as tables and figures in this Annex. The cleaning requirements that follow are in addition to those points for the Bushmaster vehicle included in Chapter 16 of this publication.

It may be necessary to remove the attachment points to ensure no soil is trapped underneath. All CES is to be removed from the Javelin stowage shelving and individually cleaned. All stowage compartments/shelving are to be cleaned of all soil, plant and insect matter (refer to Figures 16E-15 to 16E-19). It may be necessary to remove the attachment points to ensure no soil is trapped underneath. Special attention is to be made to the cleaning of the support padding on the Javelin stowage brackets to ensure they are free of all soil, plant and insect matter (refer to Figures 16E-16 and 16E-18). Critically inspect all rubber dust and weather seals on module side and rear doors to ensure they are not damaged in any way (refer Figure16F-9). Any damaged seals should be disposed in accordance with AQIS instructions.

Ensure the top waste bin mounted on the rear door upper has been emptied and cleaned (refer Figure16F-10). Check that the Biological waste been mounted on the rear door lower is empty. If empty, ensure it is clean and free of QRM. If the bin contains waste – DO NOT empty. Contact medical personnel to clean the bin (refer Figure16F-10). WARNING – Bin may contain INFECTIOUS waste

Remove all light lenses and covers on and inside the ambulance to ensure there is no seed, soil or insect debris. Dispose of damaged lights and lenses in accordance with AQIS instructions.

Remove cushions from the litter and the seat in the rear of the cabin and inspect and clean (refer Figure16F-X). Damaged seat cushions are to be disposed of in accordance with AQIS directions. Clean bare seat benches, litters and extension arms (refer Figure16FX). Clean litter tie up straps and ensure they are free of QRM. All stowage compartments, toolboxes and bins are to be emptied and brushed, air-blown and wiped clean. All rubber seals are to be checked and cleaned (refer Figures 16F-11 to 16F-17). Clean ceiling, floor and the rear of front seat. Ensure the Remove the black-out curtain (if fitted) and clean. Clean fittings and the curtain securing ring and bracket. Do not refit until after AQIS

Critically inspect the rubber dust and weather seals to ensure they are not damaged in any way. Any damaged seals should be disposed of in accordance with AQIS instructions. 13 14 Clean the internal light control switch box and ensure it is free from QRM (refer Figure16F-18). The radio stowage compartment is to be emptied and brushed, airblown and wiped clean. All rubber seals are to be checked and cleaned (refer Figure16F-18). External Areas
1 Windscreens, doors, tailgates and other rubber seals have been inspected and are cleaned. Damaged seals have been inspected by AQIS and if necessary replaced or removed. Toolboxes/stowage compartments have been emptied and cleaned. The rubber seals around the doors have been inspected to ensure all soil, plant and insect matter is removed. The muffler intake cover has been removed and the cavity cleaned The batteries (cranking and radio) from both sides of the vehicle have been removed and the battery boxes and cradles cleaned. The fuel tank has been lowered to allow for cleaning and inspected by AQIS staff. The chassis has been cleaned. The drive shaft access plates/hull inspection plates have been removed to facilitate inspection and cleaning The drive shaft access port/hull inspection port has been removed to facilitate inspection and cleaning Access areas for tail-light wiring and other fender apertures have been cleaned. All damaged lights (internal and external), or lights where seals have not maintained their integrity, have been removed and light fittings cleaned. Wooden tools have been wiped down and inspected for insect infestation. All signs of possible borer infestation have been inspected by AQIS. Metal tools have been wiped clean. All items have been degreased to remove all grime and dirt, lightly oil and l have been inspected. Fuel and water Jerry cans have been removed and holders have been cleaned. Straps and buckles have been cleaned. Attention has been paid to the loop areas of the straps, at the buckle end. The rear steps have been removed and cleaned. The spare tyre has been removed and cleaned as per “tyres” below. The spare tyre mount has been cleaned prior to re-fitting of the spare tyre. The winch rope (if winch fitted) has been extended and cleaned.

16.1 This chapter provides basic and specific cleaning requirements for selected vehicles. Where there is a specific requirement or need to highlight particular problem areas detailed cleaning guides are provided as tables and figures in this chapter. Bushmaster vehicles are very complex pieces of machinery. While all contamination and QRM must be removed, the main areas of concern are: a. b. c. d. e. f. g. h. i. 16.3 external areas; cabin; rear cabin; engine and engine compartment suspension/wheel arches; winches, wire ropes and slings; tarpaulins; camouflage nets and tyres (new, old and spares).

These seals are to be pulled back, vacuumed and washed clean of all soil, plant and insect debris. Damaged seals should be inspected by AQIS and if necessary replaced or removed. Toolboxes/stowage compartments are to be emptied and cleaned. The rubber seals around the doors are to be inspected to ensure all soil, plant and insect matter is removed (refer Figures 16-2, 16-3, 16-5 to 16-7). The muffler intake cover is to be removed and the cavity cleaned. Remove the batteries (cranking and radio) from both sides of the vehicle and ensure the battery boxes and cradles are free of dirt, dust, plant and insect material. (refer Figure 16-3 ) The fuel tank is to be lowered to allow for cleaning and for inspection by AQIS staff. Leave lowered until AQIS inspection is completed. (refer Figure 16-4) The chassis is to be cleaned using flexible nozzle high-pressure water cleaning equipment. Particular attention is to be paid to small apertures which may act as reservoirs for soil, insect, snails and plant material. Additionally, check that no animals are hiding or nesting within the chassis. The drive shaft access plates/hull inspection plates are to be removed to facilitate inspection and cleaning (refer Figure 16-4) The drive shaft access port/hull inspection port are to be removed to facilitate inspection and cleaning Access areas for tail-light wiring and other fender apertures that may collect soil, plant and insect debris are to be cleaned. The external efflux vents are to be cleaned and free of QRM (refer Figure 16-8) All areas of the roof are to be cleaned and free of QRM. Comments or Tasks All damaged lights (internal and external), or lights where seals have not maintained their integrity, are to be removed so as to clean the light fittings. Wooden tools are to be wiped down and inspected for insect infestation. Any item that has termite infestation is to be destroyed. Items that have borer infestation are subject to AQIS scrutiny and fumigation before return to Australia. Metal tools are to be wiped clean of all soil, plant and insect matter. Degrease items as required to remove all grime and dirt, lightly oil and leave out for inspection. Tools may be re-oiled after inspection in consultation with the AQIS inspector. Fuel and water Jerry cans are to be removed and holders are to be cleaned. Straps and buckles are to be cleaned of all soil, plant and insect matter. Attention is to be paid to the loop areas of the straps, at the buckle end. The rear steps are to be removed and cleaned. The spare tyre is to be removed and cleaned as per “tyres” below. The spare tyre mount is to be cleaned prior to re-fitting of the spare tyre (refer Figure 16-12). The spare tyre cover is to be cleaned IAW paragraph 16.10. The annex canopy is to be removed and cleaned as per paragraph 16.10. The annex mounts are to be cleaned and free of QRM (refer Figures 16-13 to 16-15).

Tyres (New, Old and Spares) 16.12 The cleaning instructions for Tyres (New, Old and Spares) include the points detailed in Table 16-9. Critically inspect the rubber dust and weather seals to ensure they are not damaged in any way. Any damaged seals should be disposed of in accordance with AQIS instructions. 13 14 Clean the internal light control switch box and ensure it is free from QRM (refer Figure16F-18). The radio stowage compartment is to be emptied and brushed, airblown and wiped clean. All rubber seals are to be checked and cleaned (refer Figure16F-18). ANNEX G TO CHAPTER 16 CLEANING CHECKLIST – BUSHMASTER

External Areas
1 Windscreens, doors, tailgates and other rubber seals have been inspected and are cleaned. Damaged seals have been inspected by AQIS and if necessary replaced or removed. Toolboxes/stowage compartments have been emptied and cleaned. The rubber seals around the doors have been inspected to ensure all soil, plant and insect matter is removed. The muffler intake cover has been removed and the cavity cleaned The batteries (cranking and radio) from both sides of the vehicle have been removed and the battery boxes and cradles cleaned. The fuel tank has been lowered to allow for cleaning and inspected by AQIS staff. The chassis has been cleaned. The drive shaft access plates/hull inspection plates have been removed to facilitate inspection and cleaning The drive shaft access port/hull inspection port has been removed to facilitate inspection and cleaning Access areas for tail-light wiring and other fender apertures have been cleaned. All damaged lights (internal and external), or lights where seals have not maintained their integrity, have been removed and light fittings cleaned. Wooden tools have been wiped down and inspected for insect infestation. All signs of possible borer infestation have been inspected by AQIS. Metal tools have been wiped clean. All items have been degreased to remove all grime and dirt, lightly oil and l have been inspected. Fuel and water Jerry cans have been removed and holders have been cleaned. Straps and buckles have been cleaned. Attention has been paid to the loop areas of the straps, at the buckle end. The rear steps have been removed and cleaned. The spare tyre has been removed and cleaned as per “tyres” below. The spare tyre mount has been cleaned prior to re-fitting of the spare tyre. The winch rope (if winch fitted) has been extended and cleaned.

Guide rollers and fairlead assemblies are clean and free of foreign material.
Cabin

The velcro around the windscreen has been brushed clean of all plant, seed and insect matter. The ventilation system filter has been removed and cleaned with high-pressure air. Air ducts have been reverse pressure air-blown clean. All floor panels have been removed to facilitate cleaning inside the vehicle body including the engine bay cover The water chiller assembly has been removed and the shelf cleaned. The vehicle radio sets have been removed and the radio cradles are clean. All electrical tape has been removed and destroyed.
Rear Cabin
1 2 3 4 5 6 Seat covers have been removed and cleaned. Seatbelts have been fully extended and wiped clean. Plastic floor matting (if fitted) has been removed and cleaned. All floor plates have been removed to facilitate cleaning. Plates have been left unfitted until inspected by AQIS. The water tank has been removed. Both tank and tank mount has been cleaned and left unfitted until inspected by AQIS. All air filters (air-conditioner, ventilation duct, etc) have been removed and high-pressure air-cleaned. All air ducting has been removed and cleaned.
Engine – Engine Compartment
1 2 The font grill cover has been opened to allow access to the engine compartment. The lower grill cover has been removed to allow access to the engine sump area. The lower grill mesh cover has been cleaned by either high pressure water or steam cleaned. The radiator has been opened and cleaned The air cleaner element has been removed and the element and housing are clean. The power pac has been removed to allow for cleaning and for cleaning of the engine bay The engine compartment has been cleaned. The exhaust and hose connections were taped prior to cleaning. All engine openings/breathers were taped or plugged to stop ingress of water. The starter motor and alternator were covered and taped to stop ingress of water.

Suspension/Wheel Arches
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 The outer wheel assemblies were removed from the axles to facilitate cleaning. The spring-brake housing assemblies mounted on the axles are clean. Mud and other debris in the spring seat, where the spring is mounted to the axle assembly has been cleaned. Rear suspension rocker beam mounts on the frame are clean. The mudflaps have been removed and cleaned around the attachment points. The area inside the body panelling, in the wheel arches, adjacent to the intermediate and rear wheel assemblies has been cleaned. The mudguard inner covers (both left and right front wheel arches) have been removed and these areas have been cleaned.
Tarpaulins
1 All tarpaulins have been brushed down, scrubbed and hose cleaned, paying particular attention to the seam areas and then hung so as not to contact the ground for drying; All ropes and universal dispatch straps have been extended to their full length and cleaned. Canvas bags have been turned inside out and cleaned. Poles, knuckles and pegs have been cleaned. Tarpaulins not been used during the entire deployment have been unrolled, brushed and swept clean to ensure no vermin or insect infestation and then subject to an AQIS inspection.

Camouflage Nets
1 2 3 4 5 All grass and debris have been removed Heavily soiled camouflage nets have been scrubbed and dipped in an approved detergent/ disinfectant (one in 20 solution). Drying has been achieved by the hanging the camouflage net so that it did not come into contact with the ground All nets have been inspected to ensure that all plant material is removed Poles, knuckles and pegs have been cleaned.
Tyres (New, Old and Spares)
