The NFS mount to the network attached storage must be a hard mount. It has to be ensured, that the
network connection is permanently available and stable. If the mount point of a NAS system
does not respond, e.g. because the storage system is down, the Document Service will completely
hang.
If the backend storage system (stage II) consists of tape devices, it is strongly recommended to
provide enough hard disk (stage I) to keep all
Archive Services’ random access to the data, direct tape access may decrease performance and
wear out the used hardware.

7 SAN Storage Systems
7.1 General Information
When using SAN Storage systems the following features have to be supported:
• Provide "look&feel" of locally attached hard
• Data is stored on hard disks only (no relocation to tape, optical, ...)
• Provide high-performance and random access to data and metadata (file system metadata, e.g.
directory structures)
• Support multi-threaded access
• Standard file system calls (read, write, stat, delete etc.)
locally attached hard disks
Customers using such systems have to assure against data loss by backup and have to execute
sanity checks regularly
7.2 Infrastructure
The implementation of the connection with which the SAN Storage system is attached must be
transparent to the application.

Important
SAN disks without retention periods and WORM feature are not
certified. In general, pure SAN disk are not recommended as storage
systems for content.
