2008 Race Weekend Instructions:Layout 1

Marathon Course Time Requirements All Marathon participants must maintain a 16minute per mile pace and complete the Davis Islands portion of the course (6 miles) by 7:45am and half-way point (13.1 mi) by 9:30 am. Any runner failing to reach the 6-mile mark by 7:45am will be moved to the sidewalk until they reach Bayshore Boulevard. At Bayshore, they will be allowed back on course, but must reach the half-way point by 9:30 a.m. If the 9:30am requirement is not reached, they will be moved to the sidewalk and will proceed at their own risk. The Finish Line and Aid Stations will remain open for 7 hours. At noon, those remaining on the course will be asked to use the Bayshore Blvd. sidewalk. Aid Stations and Mile Markers/Clocks will also be moved to the sidewalk to accommodate those runners and walkers. The Finish Line will remain in operation until the last participant crosses and receives his or her Finisher’s Medal. Transportation back to the Finish Area will be available for runners unable to complete the Marathon. If you cannot complete the Marathon, please go to the closest Aid Station and notify a Race Official that you will require transportation to the Finish Line. Please remember to return your black ChampionChip upon returning to Finish Line. Gasparilla Half Marathon Course Information The 13.1-mile course starts and finishes in the same location as the Gasparilla Marathon. The start is located at Platt Street and Parker Street and the finish is on beautiful Bayshore Blvd.; Tampa’s most scenic and picturesque waterfront road. The first 7-miles (approximate) of the Gasparilla Marathon course are the same as the Gasparilla Half-Marathon Course. Just as runners turn on to Ashley Dr. from Platt/Channelside, volunteers will separate the marathon participants from the half-marathon participants (half-marathon participants should run on the left side of Ashley; marathon participants will run on the right side of Ashley) in preparation for the half-marathon split at the intersection of Ashley and Brorein. The marathon participants will continue north on Ashley. The Half-Marathon participants will turn left onto Brorein Street and on to the Brorein Street Bridge, turn left onto Little Bayshore Boulevard, Bayshore to Platt, Platt to Plant, Plant to Verne, Verne to Bayshore, run south on Bayshore to the turnaround that is just north of Julia Dr. and then back to the Finish Line on Bayshore Blvd. Gasparilla Half-Marathon Finishers will be directed to the left side of the Finish Line. Gasparilla Half Marathon participants will be required to maintain a 16-minute per mile pace and complete the Davis Islands (6-miles) portion of the course by 7:45 a.m. At 7:45 a.m., any half marathon participants remaining on Davis Islands will be directed to the sidewalk for the remaining distance and until they reach

Bayshore Boulevard. Once on Bayshore Boulevard, the participant will be directed off of the sidewalk and on to Bayshore for the remainder of the half marathon course. Start Aid Station and Portable Toilets Zephyrhills Spring Water will be served at tables located on the Platt Street Bridge. Portable toilets will be located on either side of Bayshore where it intersects Platt Street. Gasparilla Marathon & Half-Marathon Aid Stations There will be one Start and one Finish Aid Station and 22-Aid Stations on-course. Aid Stations will supply Zephyrhills Spring Water and Gatorade Endurance Formula (Lemon-Lime). The first section of tables at every Aid Station will be distributing Gatorade Endurance Formula followed by tables with Zephyrhills Spring Water. This will remain consistent at each Aid Station throughout the course. Power Bar Gel will be distributed at miles 10 and 22 of the Gasparilla Marathon Only. Oranges will be distributed at Aid Station #15/16, #18 and #20. Marathon and Half Marathon participants are urged to consider their individual needs and training regimen, and if necessary, bring additional food and hydration items. There will be portable toilets at each Aid Station. Gasparilla Marathon Attention Marathon Maiden Voyagers! If you registered as a Marathon Maiden Voyage participant, you have been issued a special race number that identifies you as a Marathon Maiden Voyager. Have a great run, smile for the Marathon Foto photographers and upon crossing the Gasparilla Marathon Finish Line, be sure to ring the Marathon Maiden Voyage Bell and look for your very own pirate who will place the Marathon Maiden Voyage Medal around your neck! Gasparilla Marathon & Half-Marathon Clocks & Mile Markers Digital clocks will be positioned along the course at every mile and at the Half-Marathon point. Mile markers will be placed in a highly visible location at every mile to help you locate the clocks from a distance. Digital clocks at the Finish Line will display your unofficial time. The Half-Marathon miles will be marked separately beginning at mile 7. Spectator Viewing Areas The Gasparilla Marathon & Half Marathon courses were designed to provide family, friends and spectators with several spectator opportunities. Every participant will come through the Gasparilla Marathon & Half Marathon Finish Line area during mile 6. They will be at Brorein & Ashley Streets at miles 7 and 11. The Gasparilla Half Marathoners will be within walking distance of the Finish Area at Bayshore Blvd. and Magnolia Street during mile 7.

All-Star Limousine Shuttle Buses A special treat for Marathon and Half Marathon spectators, friends and family, two Shuttle Buses will run continuously throughout Race Morning beginning at 6:30 a.m. and until 11:30 a.m. The buses will depart from the Tampa Convention Center Front Dr. every 20-minutes and will drop-off at the following marathon and half marathon course locations: • ROUTE 1: Will run continuously from the Convention Center to Bayshore Boulevard & Bay to Bay Boulevard • ROUTE 2: Will run continuously from the Convention Center to Bayshore Boulevard & Gandy Boulevard Route rotation will take place throughout the morning and until 11:30 a.m. Gasparilla Marathon Relay participants will also utilize All-Star Limo Shuttles for transportation to and from the Gasparilla Marathon Relay Exchange Locations at Bayshore & Bay to Bay and Bayshore & Gandy.

15K/5K & Marathon/Half Marathon Pre-Race Pasta Dinners The Spaghetti Warehouse in Ybor City has planned an extra special menu especially for 2008 Publix Super Markets Gasparilla Distance Classic 15K & 5K participants. The menu includes spaghetti, hand-rolled meat balls, salad, bread and beverage and all for $20. The Spaghetti Warehouse is located at 1911 North 13th Street. For the easiest mode of transportation, take the TECO Trolley from just outside the Tampa Convention Center. The Trolley will drop you off at Station #4 - Cadrecha Station. This station is just steps away. The Hyatt Regency Downtown will also offer a $15 “Gasparilla” Salad Bar and Pasta Buffet, complete with chocolate chip cookies. Beverages are not included. The Hyatt is located on the corner of Tampa & Jackson Streets. Publix Super Markets Gasparilla Distance Classic Race Weekend Official Merchandise Publix Super Markets Gasparilla Distance Classic 15K & 5K and Gasparilla Marathon & Half Marathon Official Merchandise will be available In the Nike/The Sports Authority booth at the entrance of the 8 On Your Side Health & Fitness Expo. Nike is the Official Shoe & Apparel of the Publix Super Markets Gasparilla Distance Classic Race Weekend Events. This merchandise will ONLY be available during the 8 On Your Side Health & Fitness Expo! Race Weekend Parking There are several Public Parking Lots (Fees Vary) in downtown Tampa within walking distance of the Tampa Convention Center and Start/Finish Lines. Four suggested garages are: • Tampa Convention Center Garage – Tampa & Brorein • South Regional Lot/St. Pete Times Forum – Channelside & Morgan • Ft. Brooke Garage – Whiting & Florida • Whiting St. Garage – Whiting & Morgan ChampionChip Instructions • Do not forget your chip. NO CHIP, NO TIME! • Chips are not transferable and MUST be worn only by the registered participant to whom it is assigned. • Follow the instructions on the outside of your Runner Race Packet when fastening the chip to your shoe. Make sure it is securely fastened. • The chip must be fastened to your shoe.

It will not work if carried or fastened to any place other than your shoe. • Do not lose your chip. You will be charged a $30 fee if your assigned black chip is not returned. • If you are utilizing your personal ChampionChip, you must confirm that Race Management has the correct ChampionChip number. This can be done by passing your ChampionChip over the “test” pad located in the rear of the Tampa Convention Center’s West Hall. If the ChampionChip information is incorrect, please go to the Questions/Help Desk. • Do not cross the Finish Line twice. Once you have finished, please proceed to the Chip Removal Area. Volunteers will be there to assist you with the removal of your chip. Race Number Requirements • Do not alter the Race Number in any way. • For your own protection, complete the back of your Race Number and provide the necessary medical information and emergency contacts. • Fasten the Race Number securely to the front of your running clothing with safety pins. • Safety pins are available at packet pick-up. • All Race Numbers must be readily visible and worn on the front and outside of all clothing during the entire race. Race Participants not wearing their Race Numbers will be removed from the course. • Race Numbers are not transferable. Race Results Complete Race Results for the Publix Super Markets Gasparilla Distance Classic 15K & 5K and Gasparilla Marathon & Half-Marathon will be available by 5 p.m. on each Race Day at www.tampabayrun.com. Additionally, results will be emailed to all registered finishers who provided email addresses at the time of registration and will include Start Time, Chip Time, Pace Per Mile, Age Group Finish and Overall Finish. The Tampa Tribune will print a Special Results Section dedicated to the 2008 Publix Super Markets Gasparilla Distance Classic Race Weekend. The Special Publix Super Markets Gasparilla Distance Classic Results Section will be included in the Monday, February 11th Edition of The Tampa Tribune and will offer Race Coverage and complete Race Day Age Group Results. Medical Support Medical Personnel will be ready to assist you at any time during all of the Race Weekend events. Tampa Fire Rescue Paramedics will be stationed along the course and will be roving the course on motorized vehicles. The Medical Staff will

have the right to withdraw any runners or walkers from the race who appear in distress or at risk should they continue running. In the Finish Area, Tampa General Hospital will provide a fully equipped Medical Facility staffed by a team of medical professionals. Only participants requiring medical assistance will be allowed access to the medical tents. Safety Rules & Regulations For the safety and enjoyment of all event participants, the course(s) are restricted to registered runners and walkers, wheelchair division participants and official race personnel ONLY. No dogs, no bikes, no in-line skates, no roller skates and no wheeled vehicles (except registered wheelchairs) will be allowed on course. Baby joggers will only ONLY be allowed in the “Special K” 5K Walk & Stroller Roll. Violators will be disqualified and removed from the course by a Race Official. Additionally, for your own safety the use of radio/CD headphones is discouraged in accordance with RRCA and USTAF Guidelines. Lost & Found A Lost & Found Area will also be located in Meeting Room #24 of the Tampa Convention Center. All articles that are found will be sent to the Lost & Found Area. Any items not claimed before the Gear Check Area closes at Noon (Saturday & Sunday) will be taken back to the Gasparilla Distance Classic Association Office: (813)254-7866 Official Photos Official race photos will be taken along the course by Marathon Foto. Photo proofs and orders will be available online beginning Thurs., February 14, 2008 at www.marathonfoto.com. Post-Race Massage The Florida State Massage Therapy Association Sports Massage Team will be offering 10-minute post race massages ($10) and 20-minute post race massages ($20) to participants on a firstcome, first-served basis. Additional massage time may be purchased for $1/minute (cash only). Massage area will be located on the Registration Level of the convention center on Saturday and in MR 25 on the ground floor of the Convention Center (adjacent to Gear Check Area) on Sunday. Publix Super Markets Gasparilla Distance Classic 5K Runner Start & Seeding Information The Publix Super Markets Gasparilla Distance Classic 5K (runners) will start at 9:30am on Little Bayshore Boulevard between the Brorein Street Bridge and Platt Street Bridge. The Start will be set-up with an area for Seeded Runners. The Seeded Runners will be assigned yellow numbers and should enter from the FRONT of the Start Area via the Platt Street Bridge. All other 5K participants are instructed to approach the 5K Start from the rear and via the Brorein Street Bridge. Kellogg’s “Special K” 5K Walk & Stroller Roll This brand new 5K created specifically for 5K Walkers and those moms, dads, aunts, uncles, friends, etc that for years have wanted to participate along side their young children in baby joggers or strollers. The “Special K” 5K Walk & Stroller Roll will Start at 9:50am and following the Start of the Publix Super Markets Gasparilla Distance Classic 5K Runner Start. All 5K Walkers and those with baby joggers and strollers should line up/stage on the Brorein Street Bridge beginning at 9:00am. The “Special K” 5K Walk & Stroller Roll Staging Area will be marked with Orange, Black and White Balloon Columns. Michelob Ultra Challenge & Bud Light Challenge Congratulations to those participants that have decided to take the Michelob Ultra Challenge or the Bud Light Challenge and participate in the 5K, 15K and Marathon or 5K, 15K and Half-Marathon. You will be issued only one Race Number and only one ChampionChip for use during all three events. DO NOT give your ChampionChip to volunteers at the Finish Lines of the Publix Super Markets Gasparilla Distance Classic 15K or 5K. DO NOT lose or forget your ChampionChip on either Race Morning. Following Race Weekend, and once we have confirmed finishing times for the Publix Super Markets Gasparilla Distance Classic 15K, Publix Super Markets Gasparilla Distance Classic 5K and Gasparilla Marathon or Gasparilla Half-Marathon, you will be mailed a Michelob Ultra Challenge or Bud Light Challenge Event Shirt and Recognition Award. Every race number has a Michelob Ultra tear-off tag that should be presented in exchange for one 12-ounce Michelob Ultra. The tear-off tags on numbers assigned to runners under age 21 have been pulled. Gasparilla Marathon & Half Marathon Runner Information For General Information, please review pages 1 & 2. The Marathon and Half-Marathon will start promptly at 6 a.m. Following the “Official Start” at 6am and once the Start Area clears, late comers will not be allowed to Start! Please allow plenty of time to check your gear, and get to the Start Area and then line up for the start of the marathon and half marathon. If you are driving to the race, please arrive early and give yourself plenty of time for parking. Remember that many of the streets will be closed to traffic. Gasparilla Marathon & Half Marathon Runner Gear Check-In/Pick-Up Before the Marathon and Half-Marathon, all participants may store their warm-up clothing in the Gear Check Area. This area will be located in MR 24 of the Tampa Convention Center. Gear should be dropped off and picked up according to your race number. The Gear Check Area will open at 4:30 a.m. Luggage will not be allowed in Gear Check Area. Do not check any valuables. The Gasparilla Distance Classic Association will not be responsible for any lost or stolen articles. Any gear not claimed before the Gear Check Area closes at 1 p.m. will be taken back to the Gasparilla Distance Classic Association Office. Gasparilla Marathon & Half-Marathon Start Information There will be a Start Information Area set up at the Franklin Street entrance of the Tampa Convention Center. Volunteers will be able to assist with offering information on the locations of the following: Gear Check Lost & Found Start Location Post-Race Massage TGH Medical Tent Portable Toilets Shuttle Buses Gasparilla Marathon & Half-Marathon Finish Line Instructions Full-Marathoners will finish on the right side of the Finish Line. Half-Marathoners will finish on the left side of the Finish Line. Volunteers will separate full-marathoners from half-marathoners approximately 100 yards from the Finish Line. Your time will be recorded automatically when you cross the Finish Line. After you cross the Finish Line, DO NOT STOP. Please proceed to the Chip Removal Area where Chip Volunteers will assist with removing and collecting each runner’s chip. Finish Line Volunteers at the Finish Line will direct you to the Medical Tent (if necessary), Finisher’s Medals/Mylar Wraps, the Columbia Restaurants ‘1905’ Runner Revive Area and Portable Toilet Facilities. Do not cross the Finish Line twice. Once you have finished, please proceed to the Chip Removal Area.

Gasparilla Marathon Relay Each Gasparilla Marathon Relay Team consists of four team members. Each team member will run one of four legs of the relay. The team will receive one ChampionChip Timing Device and a Velcro Ankle Strap. The chip and strap must be passed to the next relay team member, but not until after crossing the ChampionChip Transponder Pad at each Relay Exchange Location. Directional signage will be posted at each Gasparilla Marathon Relay Exchange Location and each Relay Exchange Location will be marked with a Green, Yellow and White Balloon Column. Gasparilla Marathon Relay Race Numbers were assigned based on information provided on the individual entry forms of each Gasparilla Marathon Relay Team. All Gasparilla Marathon Relay Race Numbers end in A, B, C or D and each will run the following distances: A Leg: 7-miles (Marathon Start to Relay Exchange #1: Ashley & Whiting Street) B Leg: 7-miles (Ashley & Whiting to Relay Exchange #2 (Bayshore & Bay to Bay) C Leg: 8-miles (Bayshore & Bay to Bay to Relay Exchange #3 (Bayshore & Gandy) D Leg: 4.2-miles (Bayshore & Gandy to Finish Line) Relay Exchange #1 (Ashley & Whiting Street) is located one block from the Tampa Convention Center and is within walking distance. Relay Exchange #2 and #3 are located on Bayshore Boulevard and are not within walking distance. All-Star Limousine will be providing three 40passenger buses to shuttle Gasparilla Marathon Relay participants to Bayshore & Bay to Bay and Bayshore & Gandy. Additional All-Star Limousine Shuttle Bus Drop-Off/Pick-up Location information is located on page 4. Gasparilla Marathon Relay team members that are running the first three legs of the relay are encouraged to greet their anchor leg team member on Bayshore Boulevard at the Davis Islands Bridge, so that the team can cross the Finish Line together. Runner Reunite Area Marathon and Half Marathon runners and walkers should instruct their families to meet them at the intersection of Platt/Channelside and Franklin Streets (near Franklin Street Entrance of the Tampa Convention Center). The Finish Line Area and Columbia Restaurant “1905” Runner Revive Area will be secure. Non-participants will not be allowed in this area. Columbia Restaurants “1905” Runner Revive Area In addition to Zephyrhills Spring Water, Gatorade Endurance Formula, Coca-Cola, Smoothie King Smoothies, Dunkin Donuts Ice Drinks, Melitta Coffee, Bagles & Publix Bananas, Columbia Restaurants will provide “1905” Salad, Black Beans & Rice and Cuban Bread to all Gasparilla Marathon, Half Marathon & Marathon Relay Finishers.

Finishers must be wearing their Race Number to be served. Non-participants will not be allowed in this area. Also, please be aware and place your garbage in the provided garbage containers. Q105 Post Race Celebration & Awards Presented by Michelob Ultra Sunday, February 10, 2008 Tampa Convention Center - Riverwalk 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Join Q105 and Michelob Ultra for the Post Race Celebration & Awards Presentation The musical fun begins at 11 a.m., followed by the Gasparilla Marathon & Half Marathon Awards Presentation at Noon…with LOTS MORE fun and music to follow. Michelob Ultra and the Gasparilla Distance Classic Association will offer one Michelob Ultra Draft to every Gasparilla Marathon & Half Marathon Finisher beginning at 11a.m. (21 years and older). Every race number has a Michelob Ultra tear-off tag that should be presented in exchange for one 12-ounce Michelob Ultra Draft. The tear-off tags have been pulled on numbers assigned to runners under 21. ATTENTION: Gasparilla Marathon & Half Marathon Participants! The experiences that you will enjoy over Race Weekend are made possible by 1,500 Rooms To Go Volunteers. Please show your appreciation by saying thanks. Gasparilla Marathon Course Information The 26.2-mile course starts on Platt and Parker Streets (adjacent to Publix Super Markets) and finishes on beautiful Bayshore Blvd.; Tampa’s most scenic and picturesque waterfront road. The flat, fast and mostly waterfront course showcases many of Tampa’s most beautiful and historic neighborhoods including Davis Islands, Downtown Tampa, the Hillsborough River, Bayshore Boulevard, Ballast Point, South Bayshore and Gadsen Park. The first 7-miles (approximate) of the Gasparilla Marathon course are the same as the Gasparilla Half-Marathon Course. Just as runners turn on to Ashley Dr. from Platt/Channelside, volunteers will separate the marathon participants from the half-marathon participants (Half Marathon participants should run on the left side of Ashley; marathon participants will run on the right side of Ashley) in preparation for the half-marathon split at the intersection of Ashley and Brorein. The marathon participants will continue north on Ashley.
