,ntrod(&tion When considering the statement, "What the world needs now!” there are a variety of responses or answers we could focus on. One day while contemplating this statement I typed the phrase into a Google search. I found many, many responses. The most curious and simple answer I found simply stated "energy." It seems that the answer to hunger, poverty, eploitation, and conflict can e remedied y education and that in order to provide these collectively, the world needs clean, renewale, and affordale "energy." That#s the answer to the prolems of the world. When considering the same statement from a ilical perspective, the answer list could also include many, many responses. $owever, of the many responses we might find, they all point to one over arching ut simple response % &esus. What the world need#s now is &esus. 'ut $e is no longer here. What the world needs now is children of God who live in light of the fact that $e was here and provided the way of salvation, and children of God that live in light of the fact that $e is coming again. The difference that &esus ma(es in the life of $is children should e so ovious and powerful that it is the same as the difference etween night and
day. This is the illustration that )aul egins with as he contrasts the difference* light or dar(ness, drun( or soer, asleep or alert. What the world needs now is "+oer and lert -hildren of ight!"

/uring -hrist#s earthly ministry, $e clearly stated that $e would return to the earth for $is people. $e promised to gather $is followers at a point in time that would save them from a time of great 0udgment here on earth. That time of 0udgment on the earth would egin on The /ay of the ord. $ow will the ord remove $is people from the earth1 In a great event that we refer to as the 2apture. This is the reminder that that )aul is offering as we approach chapter 3 in 4irst Thessalonians. This event is contrasted with the /ay of the ord in verses 567. This method of contrasting the reality of what the children of God will eperience verses what "they" will eperience helps us to understand our change of nature, our new state of mind and attitude, and our future.
