The Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) is the oldest school at LUMS and was established in 1986. The School introduced the case method of teaching, keeping in mind the need for a challenging and relevant curriculum. SDSB also carries out rigorous economic and management research through research centres such as the Strategic Sectors Research Centre, Social Enterprise Development Centre and the Case Research Centre. SDSB maintains a close relationship with the business world, which acts as a source of advice and information. This interaction not only helps to keep the curriculum relevant to the needs of business organisations, but also ensures that the students are exposed to the dynamics of the corporate world. Business leaders actively interact with both faculty and students through frequent visits, seminars and as guest speakers, enriching the classroom experience with their perspectives. Additionally, industry linkages are strengthened by the involvement of faculty in teaching and training at the Rausing Executive Development Centre, which caters to more than 2,000 senior executives and managers annually. The SDSB aims to provide for the varying educational needs of a culturally diverse and geographically dispersed student body with the goal of preparing students academically, personally, and professionally for successful careers and to give them opportunities to make a difference.

My LUMS MBA experience was really awesome. I have done two MBAs (one from LUMS and one from Canada) and followed up with several leadership courses at the University of Toronto, Harvard and UBC. The LUMS experience is as good if not better than the Harvard Business School experience (which I attended this year and reminded me of our intense MBA programmme 15 years back).

hoW We stay relevant?
The SDSB MBA Programme is designed to impart international business knowledge and experience along with the necessary exposure of the local market to enable students to apply relevant international best practices while staying in touch with the current realities. In order to achieve this challenging goal, the world class faculty is constantly involved in research relevant to the local industry. Case development based on market realities enhances the curriculum, keeping it up-to-date and pertinent.

I had heard that LUMS students are very competitive but what surprised me the most was how supportive they were. Everybody always wanted to try new things and learn from each other. My two years at LUMS were very memorable. My classmates came from all around Pakistan from different fields and with varying experiences, and this contributed to the class discussions, which were the most interesting and enjoyable part of academics. They built up my ability to negotiate and present a specific point. Overall it was an amazing experience that built business knowledge, helped shape positive behaviour to be ready for practical pressures of life and most importantly provided a forum to become part of a great community.

The primary role of the LUMS Alumni Office is to provide a clear vision of the importance of alumni to the mission of the University and to develop, sustain and expand opportunities for alumni. The Alumni Office fosters and strengthens the intellectual and corporate connections to the LUMS community, and provides all alumni with a range of opportunities that will engage them with the University and with each other. Every year hundreds of alumni return to campus to celebrate their Homecoming. These reunions offer alumni the opportunity to catch up with old classmates, share experiences from their time at LUMS and find out about new developments at the University. Many alumni also decide to mark their anniversary year by making a collective Class Gift to the University to ensure that current and future students can get as much out of their time at LUMS as they did. The SDSB Luminites Association was formed in 2009 with the objective to cultivate and strengthen relationships with all the involved stakeholders; business and social enterprises. All the graduates of LUMS SDSB are the members of this Association. The Association’s affairs are run by an Executive Board elected by the SDSB alumni community. Alumni and friends have made a significant contribution to the new academic building of the Suleman Dawood School of Business, which is now in full operation and occupation. Located adjacent to the LUMS Mosque, the building provides extensive and flexible teaching and learning space for the School.

The LUMS MBA is one of the best investments I have made in my career. It’s a well structured, intensive and rigorous programme. The course content and case studies are thought provoking, relevant and practical. The learning environment is fantastic with first class professors and students with a rich diversity of experience and backgrounds. This leads to a highly stimulating, intellectual and compelling social experience. Most of us came out of LUMS with some lasting friendships and bonds forged over days and nights spent working together. LUMS also provides access to top-tier recruiters and business leaders and equips you with the necessary intellectual and practical tools to lead a very successful career.
