M.Phil. Entrance Test & Admissions 2011-2012 Rules, Regulations & Information: M.Phil. Cou rses are offered in the follow ing su bjects at University College, Kakatiya University Cam p u s, Warangal, i.e. Telu gu , English, Public Ad ministration, H u man Resou rce Management, Political Science, History, Economics, Commerce and M.Phil. in Sociology at University P.G. College, N irm al (Ad ilabad District) and M.Phil. in Ed u cation at University College of Education, Kakatiya University Campus. No. of Seats: 12 seats in each subject. Eligibility: Cand id ates m u st have p assed the Master Degree of Kakatiya University or any other recognized Universities in the d iscip line concerned secu ring not less than 55% m arks (5% relaxation in case of SC/ST/ PH Categories) are eligible to ap p ly and take the Entrance Test. Note: For M.Phil. in Human Resource Management only Master of Human Resource Management candidates are eligible. Entrance Test : The entrance test shall consist of w ritten exam inations of essay typ e w ith 3 hou rs d uration and shall carry 100 marks. The test shall be cond u cted in the su bject of the d iscip line concerned in w hich the cand id ate is seeking ad m ission to M.Phil. The minimu m m arks for a pass in the entrance test for General and Backw ard Class cand id ates is 36% and for SC/ ST/ PH cand id ates there are no m inim u m marks. Ad m ission w ill be in the ord er of m erit on the basis of m arks secu red at the entrance test in the concerned su bject and su bject to rules of the reservation approved by the University.

Common to all the Candidates: To be eligible for ad mission to the cou rse in any acad em ic year, a candidate must; 1. 2. Have passed the qualifying Degree Examination and secure the prescribed minimum marks in the subject(s) course concerned. Qualify at the Entrance Test conducted by the University in the academic year for which admission is sought.

The University m ay, for ad m inistrative reasons cond u ct the Entrance Test before p u blication of the results of qualifying degree examinations concerned. But qualifying in the Entrance test alone does not confer a right of admission on a candidate. In addition to being qualified at the Entrance Test, a cand id ate w ill be eligible for ad mission only if he/ she p asses the qu alifying degree exam ination before the first p hase of cou nseling and secu res the p rescribed minim u m m arks in the su bject(s) cou rses concerned . The mem orand u m of m arks and p ass certificates of the qu alifying exam ination are not called for along w ith the ap p lication form for Entrance 2

Test and the eligibility of the cand id ates is not verified / d ecid ed at the time of allow ing the cand id ates to ap p ear for the Entrance Test. H ence, even if cand id ates are qu alified in the Entrance Test, they shall not have any right for ad m ission u nless they fu lfill the eligibility criteria for admission to the course he/she has applied before appearing at the Entrance Test. Candidates are advised to obtain duly signed Acknowledgement Card after submitting the Application. Filling-up the Application Form for Entrance Test: 1. Application and Hall-Ticket forms should be downloaded from the University Website www.kakatiya.ac.in be filled in properly and legibly by the candidate in his/her own handwriting. The candidate will be held personally responsible for any incorrect entry. Incomplete applications will be rejected summarily. The University reserves the right to cancel the admission at any stage if particulars furnished by the candidate are found incorrect.

Submission of the Application Form: 1. Ap p lication Form for Entrance Test (along H all-Ticket Forms) d u ly filled in shou ld be submitted at the cou nter concerned (or as otherw ise notified on or before the last d ate of su bm ission betw een 11.00 a.m . to 1.00 p .m . and 2.00 p .m . to 5.00 p .m . on all working days or as otherwise notified. Cand id ates send ing the ap p lications for Entrance Test by p ost, are ad vised to send them sufficiently in ad vance so that they reach on or before the last d ate as prescribed . The University w ill not be resp onsible for any p ostal d elay or loss during transit. Application Form for Entrance Test received after the last date and the time prescribed will be rejected.

Cand id ates shall be p ermitted to register themselves for Ph.D. Programm e in su ch of the subjects for which adequate research facilities are available. 2. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION: I. In all the facu lties (Arts, Comm erce & Bu siness Managem ent, Ed u cation, Engineering & Technology, Law , Pharmaceu tical Sciences, Sciences, Social Sciences) a cand id ate is eligible for registration/ ad m ission to Ph.D. cou rse in a su bject, if she/he; i) has obtained a Post-Graduate Degree from a recognized University secu ring not less than 55%` m arks (50% for SC/ ST/PH cand id ates) at the Post-graduate degree AND has qu alified in UGC-CSIR/NET/GATE/AICTE/SLET or APSET examination of Government of Andhra Pradesh OR has M. Phil. in concerned or in an allied su bject from Kakatiya University OR was ad mitted to M. Phil. in regu lar stream through entrance test and com p leted from other Universities in A.P. OR has qu alified in the Ph.D. Entrance Test conducted by Kakatiya University for that particular year of admission.

The Ph.D. ad m ission is su bject to the availability of vacancies w ith the Research Supervisors in the Departments concerned in the current academic year. II. Teacher cand id ates w ho are in a regu lar service and are w orking in Constitu ent/ Affiliated / Associate/ Ju nior/ Polytechnic Colleges or other academic Institutions, provided they possess the qualifications stipulated above. Persons w orking in Ind u stries, Pu blic Sector Organizations, N ationalized Banks, Government Dep artm ents, State Institu tes, Institu tes of repu te engaged in research work, provided they fulfill the qualifications stipulated above. Cand id ates mentioned at II and III above m ay be allow ed to d o p art-time research. IV. N ot w ithstand ing the eligibility criteria listed above, the University reserves the right to am end / alter from tim e to tim e, the eligibility cond itions for ad m ission to Ph. D. programme in any one or more faculties.

PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION: i. Ad mission to Ph.D. p rogramm e shall be mad e after inviting ap p lications for registration from cand id ates w ho satisfy the eligibility criteria as m entioned at 2 throu gh a notification issued by the Registrar through the Directorate of Admissions, Kakatiya University. Ap p lication for registration shall be m ad e in the p rescribed form , w hich shall be available at the Office of the Directorate of Ad m issions, University Website, Kakatiya University, Warangal. The d u ly filled in Ap p lication form along w ith Research Proposal and supporting documents shall be submitted to the Director, Directorate of Ad m issions, Kakatiya University on or before the last d ate prescribed in the Notification.

The D ean of the Faculty concerned shall inform the d ate and tim e of interview to the eligible candidates. iv. Registration of the cand id ates shall be m ad e on the recom m end ation of the Admission Committee consisting of the following: 1. Vice-Chancellor Chairperson 2. Dean of the Faculty Member 3. Head of the Department concerned Member 4. Chairperson, BOS concerned Member-Convener 5. One External Expert not below the rank of Professor Member 6. Two Research Supervisors of the Department concerned, nominated Members by the Vice-Chancellor 7. In case none of the members in the selection com m ittee belong to any of the follow ing categories, viz. SC/ ST/ Wom en/ PH C, the Vice-Chancellor shall nom inate a Senior Teacher(s) as Observer-cum-Member(s) on the selection committee. Note: In the absence of the V ice-Chancellor, the Dean shall preside over the admission committee.

The ad m ission/ registration to Ph. D. p rogram me is given by the ad m ission com mittee based on Merit-cum-Reservation as p er the ru les of Reservation issu ed by the Govt. of AP from time-to-time and adopted by the University to the candidates as listed below. a) b) c) The Cand id ates w ho are qu alified in N ational level test and aw ard ed UGC/CSIR/ICMR/ICAR/GATE/AICTE or Any Other Fellowship. Cand id ates w ho are qu alified in UGC-CSIR/NET/GATE/ SLET or APSET examination of Government of Andhra Pradesh. Those w ho have M. Phil. Degree in the concerned or in an allied su bject from Kakatiya University and those ad m itted to M. Phil. in regu lar stream throu gh entrance test and completed from other Universities in Andhra Pradesh. Those w ho have qu alified in the Ph.D. Entrance Test cond u cted by Kakatiya University for that particular year of admission on the basis of merit.

The cand id ates belonging to b to d m ay be registered as fu ll time research scholars if they are not em p loyed . Em p loyees of the institu tions/ organizations w ill be registered as p arttim e research scholars only on the su bm ission of p rop er evid ence of em p loym ent and a noobjection certificate at the time of interview . If the Institu tion or Organization sp onsors a cand id ate for full-tim e research by sanctioning leave, he/ she w ill be registered as full time research scholar. v. Cand id ates w ho have been intim ated abou t their selection/ ad m ission for Ph. D. Program me shall have to report to the Princip al of the College concerned w here the department exists through the Supervisor, Head of the Department and the Dean of the Faculty concerned after paying the prescribed fee.

COURSE OF STUDY:
The d u ration of the p rogramm e shall be for a m inim u m p eriod of two years for fu ll-time scholars and three years for p art-time scholars w hile the m axim u m p eriod is four and five years from the date of registration for full-time and part-time scholars respectively.

i) The research activity of all the scholars in a d ep artm ent shall be m onitored from time-totim e by the D epartment Research Committee (D RC) d u ly constituted by the u niversity consisting the following members: a) b) c) Head of the Department Research Supervisors in the Department Chairman, Board of Studies concerned Chairman Members Member Convener

The Cand id ates registered for the Ph.D. p rogramm e on full-time basis shall be available in the Dep artment throu ghou t the p rogram me and the H ead of the Dep artm ent shall maintain their attendance in the d ep artm ent. The cand id ates registered on part-time basis should be in regular contact with the concerned Supervisor. All the ad m itted cand id ates have to u nd ergo a course w ork of six months d u ration as per the syllabus prescribed by the concerned department. The cand id ates registered for the Ph.D. Program m e (Regu lar & Part-tim e) shou ld give a minimum of two (2) Seminars during the programme as follows under the chairmanship of the Dean of the Facu lty concerned . In absence of the Dean, the H ead of the Department shall chair the same. I Seminar: Soon after the Pre-Ph.D. examination/ w ithin one-year from the d ate of registration. The theme pertaining to the Sem inar shall be on the Methodology, Sample questionnaire and Purpose of Study. It shall be held during the II year or before the submission of thesis.

II Seminar:

The Dean of t he concerned facult y and t he Head of t he Depart ment shall issue a cert ificat e of present at ion of t he Seminars (t w o) and t he cert ificat es should be submit t ed along with the application at the time of submission of the thesis. v) The cand id ate shou ld p u blish at least one (1) p ap er in a rep u ted / recognized journal (approved by the Board of Studies) before submission of thesis. The Vice-Chancellor m ay, on the recom m end ation of the Su p ervisor and the H ead of the Dep artm ent, p ermit a cand id ate to w ork elsew here for not m ore than six (6) m onths, if it is in the interest of his/ her research w ork. In excep tional cases, his/ her stay, outsid e the University may be extended for a further period of six months.

vii) The H ead of the Dep artment on the recom m end ation of Sup ervisor may grant a FOUR (4) weeks leave to the candidate during a calendar year. viii) A record of all the registered scholars shall be maintained in the Department and the concerned supervisor takes care of the progress of the work done by the scholars. A candidate registered for Ph.D. Programme shall submit to the Dean concerned, through the Supervisor, Chairperson, BoS and the Head of the Department, half y early report s of the progress of the research work. If no report is submitted by a regular scholar during 12 month period, a notice shall be served to the candidate by the Dean and after 18 months the registration of such candidate stands cancelled automatically. In the case of part-time scholars the periods shall be18 months and 24 months respectively. ix) A teacher/in service cand id ate registered as a p art-time scholar in the Facu lty of Science w orking ou tsid e the Mu nicipal area of Warangal shall be requ ired to p u t in at least one year of attendance in the research laboratory of the University Dep artm ent concerned . A certificate from the emp loyer relieving him/ her w ith leave sanctioned for the entire period (1 year) shall be su bm itted by the cand id ate to the Dean of the concerned Faculty throu gh the Su p ervisor and the H ead of the Dep artm ent. H e/ She shall be allow ed to su bm it the thesis only after fu lfilling the cond ition of attend ance. In case of other 8

faculties w here no laboratory w ork is involved , su ch cand id ates shou ld sp end six months in the University Department concerned d u ring the research p eriod w ith leave from the parent department. x) N o cand id ate shall be allow ed to su bm it the thesis in less than tw o (2) years (full time) and three (3) years (part time) from the d ate of registration. The Vice-Chancellor m ay, how ever, relax this cond ition after obtaining the op inion of a Com mittee constitu ted for this purpose. A cand id ate shall su bmit the thesis w ithin 4 years (full time)/5 years (Part-time) from the date of registration. xii) Extension of tim e u p to a m axim u m of one year may be given by the Vice-Chancellor, p rovid ed , the Vice-Chancellor is satisfied that there are su fficient reasons for not com pleting the w ork w ithin 4/ 5 years. Even after the extension by one year, if the candidate fails to submit the thesis, his/her admission would be deemed to be cancelled. However, such candidates can seek re-registration. xiii) Re-registration for the cand id ates w ho have com p leted 5/ 6 years w ill be m ad e by a Comm ittee consisting of the follow ing m em bers p rovid ed there is no change of top ic or the guide. 1. Dean of the Faculty 2. Head of the Department 3. Chairperson, Board of Studies The re-registration w ill be effective from the d ate the cand id ate com p letes 5/ 6 years. The cand id ate shall p ay a re-registration fee of Rs 2000/ - + other fee mentioned at Clause 4. The candidate will be exempted from Pre-Ph. D. examination and may submit his/ her thesis any time w ithin ON E (1) year. There w ill be no fu rther extension or reregistration. xiv) If any candidate submits the thesis or cancels his/her registration, a position falls vacant with the Supervisor.

Pre-Ph.D. EXAMINATION:
Cand id ates ad m itted to Ph. D. Program m e shall have to ap p ear for Pre-Ph.D. Examination. Cand id ates w ho d id M. Phil. OR M. Litt. d egree in regu lar m od e shall, how ever, be exemp ted from the Pre-Ph.D. exam ination. Cand id ates w ho obtained M. Phil. d egree in d istance mod e and obtained ad mission throu gh eligibility/ entrance test have to undergo the course work and also appear for the pre-Ph. D. Examination.

Pre-Ph.D. exam ination shall be cond u cted after six months , bu t w ithin one year from the d ate of registration. There shall be a m inimu m of one Pre-Ph.D. exam ination d u ring every academic year. III. The Princip al, University College shall cond u ct the Pre-Ph.D. examination uniform ly once in a year. The registration of su ch of the cand id ates, w ho d o not pass the Pre-Ph.D. exam ination in tw o su ccessive examinations, from the d ate of registration, shall be cancelled. 9

IV. The Pre-Ph.D. examination for all the facu lties shall have exam ination in tw o p ap ers of 3 hou rs d u ration each w ith 100 m arks. One com m on p ap er in the su bject and the other in the specialization. a) Paper I (Common): Com mon to all the cand id ates ad m itted in a Dep artm ent (100 Marks) as per the course work. b) Paper II (Broad area of Specialization): The syllabu s of this p ap er inclu d es the cu rrent concep ts/ trend s in the concerned specialization of the su bject. Maximum nu mber of broad areas of sp ecializations in a Dep artm ent shall not be m ore than SIX (6) at any given tim e as recom mend ed by the Board of Stu d ies of the concerned subject. The syllabi for the papers have to be approved by the Board of Studies concerned and ap p roved by the statu tory bod ies. The External Examiners shall set the common p ap er and sp ecial p ap er. Tw o ind epend ent Examiners, internal and external, shall evalu ate the p ap ers. The average of the tw o aw ard s w ill be taken into consid eration for d eclaration of the resu lts. In case, the tw o aw ard s d iffer by m ore than 20%, the p ap er w ill be valu ed by a third examiner and the average of the nearest tw o w ill be taken. There shall not be any revaluation for the Pre-Ph. D. examination. c) Minim u m p ass m arks in each p ap er shall be 50%. If any cand id ate fails in any of the papers, he/she has to appear and clear only that paper. V. If a cand id ate seeks a change of topic (research area) u nd er the sam e Su p ervisor, the Vice-Chancellor on the recom mend ation of the Su p ervisor; the Chairp erson, Board of Stu d ies and the Dean of the concerned Facu lty may consid er his/ her requ est. Su ch cand id ates shall su bmit their thesis only after tw o years from the d ate of change of top ic (clause xi of rule 5 shall not be ap p licable to su ch cand id ates). They have to appear and pass the Pre-Ph.D. examination (Paper II only). A m inor change of title m ay be p erm itted by the Vice- Chancellor on the recom m end ation of the Dean of the concerned Facu lty in consu ltation w ith the Su p ervisor, Chairp erson, Board of Stu d ies and the H ead of the Departm ent. The cand id ate shall submit a rep ort on the w ork d one ju stifying that the p rop osed title is more ap t and exp lains the natu re of the w ork. In su ch cases, the cand id ate need not ap p ear the Pre-Ph.D. examination again, if he/ she has alread y p assed . However, change of title is permitted only once during the period of the course. In the norm al cou rse, change of Supervisor w ill not be p erm itted . H ow ever, in extra-ord inary circu m stances (to be d etermined by the Dean of the Facu lty w ith the concu rrence of the Vice-Chancellor) a change of Su p ervisor may be perm itted , p rovid ed there is no change in research top ic. Where p erm ission for change of Su pervisor is thu s given, the cand id ate need not ap p ear for Pre-Ph.D. examination, if the candidate has already passed the Pre-Ph.D. examination.

Publication of a research paper: A Ph. D. cand id ate shall p u blish at least one research p ap er in refereed / recognized (by the Board of Stu d ies of the Dep artm ent) jou rnal before su bm ission of the thesis for ad ju d ication and su bm it a rep rint of the same. The papers published shall be enclosed in the thesis as an annexure.

SUBMISSION OF THESIS
On com p letion of the Ph. D. p rogram m e, every cand id ate shall su bmit the thesis which shall comply with the following conditions: a) It shall be a d istinct contribu tion to the su bject and afford evid ence of originality and scholarliness show n either by the d iscovery of new facts or by the exercise of ind epend ent critical analysis. Stu d ent has to su bm it a soft cop y of the thesis along w ith an u nd ertaking and a certificate from the anti-plagiarism cell of the University. b) It shall be satisfactory as regard s literary p resentation and shall be w orthy of publication whether in full as submitted or in an abridged form. ii) A candidate may utilize for his or her thesis, the contents or any work which he or she may have alread y p u blished on the su bject, bu t has not su bm itted the w hole or any su bstantial p art thereof for w hich a d egree has been conferred on him/ her of this or any other University. iii) The thesis in all su bjects shall be w ritten and su bm itted only in English, excep t in langu age su bjects w here the cand id ates shall have the option of w riting it either in English or in the langu age concerned. W here t he t hesis is in a language ot her t han English, a detailed summary of the same in English may also be submitted. iv) Every cand id ate shall ap p ly to the Controller of Examinations on a prescribed form for su bm ission of thesis. It shall submitted d u ly filled in and accomp anied by fou r (4) copies of the thesis printed along with the following: a) Four (4) copies of an abstract of the thesis (10 to 15 pages). b) A p roper receip t show ing that the p rescribed fee of Rs. 5,000/- (Ru p ees five thou sand only) has been p aid throu gh B Challan at the State Bank of Hyderabad, Kakatiya University Branch, Warangal (or) a Crossed Demand Draft d raw n in favou r of the Registrar, Exam inations Accou nt, Kakatiya University payable at Warangal. c) A certificate from the Head of the Department and the Dean of the Faculty to the effect that the Candidate has given TWO (2) Seminars. d) Certificate from anti-plagiarism cell for anti-plagiarism e) Mem orand u m of m arks of Pre-Ph. D. exam ination and copies of the PG d egree certificate. In case the cand id ate is exem p ted from Pre-Ph. D. examination for possessing M. Phil. Degree, a copy of the M. Phil. Certificate shall be enclosed. f) A reprint of the paper published. g) A cop y of the letter of ad m ission/ extension/ change of title etc. to the Ph. D. course along w ith a proof of having p aid the p rescribed fees and satisfied all the conditions. h) A copy of the permission letter for change of topic/supervisor. i) A No Dues Certificate d u ly certified by the: 1) Accounts Branch of the College concerned. 2) Library; 3) Hostels Office; 4) Department concerned. 11

The research scholar may avail the op tion of su bmitting Fou r (4) cop ies of the abstract/ su m mary of the Thesis tw o m onths p rior to the su bm ission of the thesis, along w ith all the above d ocu ments except d w hich shall be su bmitted along w ith the thesis, so that the examination process may be initiated.

8. EXAMINATION: i) Three Exam iners shall evalu ate the thesis su bmitted by a cand id ate. The Su p ervisor(s) will not be the Examiner(s). ii) A p anel of nine (9) Exam iners (at least 6 Examiners from ou tsid e And hra Prad esh) shall be su bm itted by the Su p ervisor to the Board of Stu d ies keep ing in view the field of sp ecialization (excep t Telu gu ) for ap p roval. In areas w here exp erts are not available w ithin the cou ntry, exam iners from abroad m ay be inclu d ed in the p anel. In case of interdiscip linary research, the p anel of Exam iners shall be submitted jointly by the tw o Supervisors mentioning their areas of research for approval of the Board of Studies of the subject. iii) Ph. D. Su p ervisors recognized by the Kakatiya University and p ersons related to the candidate shall not be included in the panel of adjudicators. iv) The Board of Stu d ies of the Dep artment concerned shall recom m end a p anel of nine (9) Examiners. From this p anel, the Vice-Chancellor shall ap point THREE (3) External Examiners. When a thesis is resubmitted, the candidate shall be required to pay half of the prescribed fee. B) The revised thesis shall be referred to those exam iners w ho have originally recom m end ed revision and in case it is rejected by any of the exam iners, it shall be sent to a fourth examiner.

If the thesis of a cand id ate is rejected , he/ she may be p erm itted to register him self/ herself afresh for the Ph.D. p rogramm e and he/ she shall be exemp ted from passing the Pre-PhD. examination. Exam iner(s) ap p ointed from ou t-sid e Ind ia m ay send qu estions to be p u t to the cand id ate at the viva-voce and the Vice-Chancellor m ay ap point exp ert(s) from within India from the subject concerned to conduct viva-voce of the candidate. The viva-voce is open to the stu d ents and facu lty of the Dep artment and to the faculty/ scientists in the concerned / allied su bjects. The viva-voce shall be conducted by a Board consisting of the following members: Dean of the Faculty concerned Chairperson, Board of Studies concerned Head of the Department One External Examiner Supervisor Chairperson Member Member Member Member-Convener

In the absence of the Dean, the Chairperson, BOS shall chair the meeting. The Board members shall sign the report of the viva-voce. External Member + Supervisor + Head + Dean and/or Chairperson, BOS constitute the quorum for the Board meeting. If the rep ort of the viva-voce is satisfactory, the Controller of Exam inations shall finally d eclare the cand id ate qu alified for the aw ard of Ph.D. d egree w ith the ap p roval of the Vice-Chancellor, subject to ratification by the Executive Council. A copy of every Doctoral thesis for w hich a d egree has been aw ard ed after incorp orating the corrections, if any, su ggested by the exam iners shall be p laced in the University Library w ith the inscrip tion Thesis ap p roved for the aw ard of the Degree of Doctor of Philosop hy, Kakatiya University . A hard cop y of the thesis shall be mad e available in Dep artm ent sem inar library. The thesis w ill also be p osted on the Kakatiya University Website. A soft cop y of the thesis shall be sent to the University Grants Comm ission, N ew Delhi w ithin 30 d ays of aw ard of the Ph. D. Degree for hosting the sam e in INFLIBNET, accessible to all Indian Universities and Institutions.

CANCELLATION OF REGISTRATION
The Dean of the Facu lty concerned m ay cancel the registration of a cand id ate on the recom m end ation of the Su p ervisor, the Chairp erson, Board of Stu d ies and the H ead of the Department concerned under the following circumstances: i) ii) iii) On the Scholar s ow n requ est; When progress has been rep orted to be continu ou sly u nsatisfactory for m ore than six months; When the cand id ate d iscontinu es his/ her research w ithout p rior intimation to the Dean of the Facu lty, throu gh the Su p ervisor; Chairp erson, Board of Stu d ies and the Head of the Department. When the candidate has taken up employment/admission to any other course of this University or any other University without prior permission. 13

iv)

When a candidate does not pass Pre-Ph.D. examination within the prescribed number of chances. vii) When the candidate does not submit the thesis within the prescribed period. viii) When the Conduct of the candidate is not satisfactory.

10. RULES FOR RECOGNITION OF SUPERVISORS
i) ii) The Supervisor for Ph.D. Programme shall be a Ph.D. degree holder. H e/ she shall have at least 6 p ap ers p u blished in recognized stand ard jou rnals ap p roved by the Board of Stu d ies of the Dep artment. Ou t of the 6 p ap ers at least tw o shall have been published after obtaining the Ph.D. degree. iii) The recognition as Su p ervisor shall be after tw o (2) years from the d ate of aw ard of the Ph.D. degree and has two years of regular service in the University. iv) A teacher/ Scientist w orking in any of the Constitu ent or Affiliated Colleges of the University or Research Institute/ Industry may be recognized as a Supervisor provided the infrastru ctu re facilities in the College are ad equ ate for carrying ou t research. A Committee constituted for the purpose by the University shall inspect and recommend. v) A Teacher/ Scientist in the recognized research center of Kakatiya University, w ho is ap p ointed on p erm anent basis and p u ts u p a regu lar service of at least 3 years in that institution shall be considered for extending recognition as research supervisor. vi) A Sup ervisor shall not take Scholars for Ph.D. Programm e p rior to tw o years from his retirement. H ow ever, the teachers w ho have on going research p rojects from any funding agency may be relaxed from this rule. vii) Any teacher w ho intend s to continu e research and su p ervise Ph. D./ M. Phil. w ork of scholars even after retirem ent, can ap p ly to the Dean of the concerned facu lty throu gh the Chairp erson, Board of Stu d ies and the H ead of the Dep artm ent before tw o years of his superannuation for continuation of his/her recognition as supervisor. viii) A Su p ervisor may su p ervise a m axim u m of EIGHT (8) Scholars for Ph. D. including Scholars w ith fellow ship granted to them by N ational bod ies like UGC/CSIR/ICSSR/GATE etc., and FIVE (5) M. Phil. Scholars at any given time. ix) A Supervisor shall not take his/her kith and kin as Scholar for Ph.D. programme.

11. GENERAL
A fu ll tim e research scholar shall not accep t any emp loyment d u ring the tenu re of the course. However, any appointment in research/consultancy schemes is not considered as employment for the purpose stated. If an emp loyee of any organization seeks ad mission as a fu ll time research scholar, he/ she has to su bm it a letter from his/ her em p loyer at the tim e of ad m ission/ registration to the effect that necessary leave w ill be sanctioned for the entire d u ration of the Ph. D. programme. The ad m itted cand id ates have to renew their ad m ission every year by p aying the tu ition fee, special fee and any other fee p ayable at the Office of the Princip al of the College concerned . If any cand id ate d oes not get renew ed his ad m ission consecutively for tw o years, he/she has to forfeit his/her admission. 14

Hostel facility including dining for full time research scholars is subject to the availability of vacancy in the d esignated hostel and is for a m axim u m p eriod of FOUR (4) years only and it is su bject to satisfactory p rogress rep ort su bm itted once in every six months as certified by the Research Sup ervisor, H ead of the Dep artment and the Dean of the Faculty. The fu ll-time and p art-tim e research scholars shall have to attend a minimu m of 75% classes of the course work to become eligible for appearing the Pre-Ph. D. examination. The cand id ates w ho cou ld not attend 75% of the classes of the cou rse w ork shall not be allow ed to ap p ear the Pre-Ph. D. exam ination and they have to attend the classes w ith the next batch of students. After the exp iry of the m axim u m p eriod perm issible by the University, no cand id ate shall be allow ed to su bmit the Ph. D. thesis u nd er any circu m stances and the registration au tom atically stand s cancelled . Su ch cand id ates may ap p ly for re-registration and they forfeit all claims for hostel accomm od ation and other benefits granted to the regular scholars. Any violation of ru les and regu lations stip u lated in this booklet or p romu lgated by the Kakatiya University from tim e to tim e shall lead to the cancellation of the Ph. D. admission of the candidate. At the tim e of ad m ission/ registration, the cand id ates have to give an u nd ertaking to the effect that they w ill abid e by the ru les and regu lations of the University, d evote fu ll tim e for research (by the regular scholars and p art-tim e by the p art-time scholars barring their time at Office/College) and carry ou t research of high qu ality, d o not resort to any p lagiarism , m aintain good cond u ct and contribu te for good acad em ic atm osp here on the campus. Appointment of Care-Taker Supervisor: Care-taker su p ervisor shall be allotted to a Research Scholar in case the original su p ervisor leaves for abroad . The tenu re of Caretaker su pervisor shall be u p to One (1) year only. In case the original su p ervisor d oes not turn up with in one (1) year, the Care-taker Supervisor shall be the full-time Supervisor. Joint Supervisor: Joint su p ervision is p ermitted in interd iscip linary areas of research p rovid ed the tw o su p ervisors are not from the same Dep artm ent. In all su ch cases, both the Sup ervisors m u st give their w ritten consent agreeing for joint su p ervision of the research work of the registered scholar. 12. NOTE: All other m atters that have not been covered by the ru les m entioned above shall be referred to the Stand ing Com m ittee of the Acad emic Senate w hose d ecision will be final. (The Ph. D. rules & Regulations, Kakatiya University, were approved by the Standing Committee of the Academic Senate in the Meeting held on 24 -08-2011.)

The Ad m ission Com m ittee interview s the cand id ates belonging to (a) and based on the p erformance of the cand id ate, allots him/ her to the research su p ervisor w ho has accepted him / her and gu id ing the research w ork. If the cand id ate has not yet started research w ork in the Dep artm ent, the Comm ittee assigns a su p ervisor as p er the sp ecialization in view of the guidelines of the UGC, 9(i). The Ad mission Com m ittee interview s the cand id ates belonging to b - d , and based on the performance, recommends for admission by allotting to a research supervisor. The ad missions to the Ph. D. Cou rse in a d ep artment/ su bject are m ad e by taking the vacancies available in that department/subject as the basis for reservations.
