7

A CT 1, S CENE 3
Setting: Faye’s room, evening, around 8:00, tired, sad music is playing) Landon: How was detention? Faye: Meh. It was okay, I guess. I just talked to the guidance counselor about my feelings and such. I got a warning so, nothing that harsh. Landon: Was Janice there? I haven’t heard from her. Faye: Nope. I think she went to her game but I am not sure. Elena has not heard of her either. Anyway, I am grounded and my parents took my iPod away. Landon: Faye, are you on Facebook right now? Faye: No, why? Landon: Janice just posted a video about you. Faye: What? Are you serious? Wait. Elena is calling me. (Picks up Elena’s call) Elena: Faye go on Twitter. Right now. Janice just posted a video. (Faye goes on the social sites, look at the videos, starts tearing up) Landon: Faye, are you okay? Faye: Yeah. I’ll be fine. I just have to go. My mother is calling me. Elena: Faye you will be fine. Do not worry about (Faye hangs up mid sentence) Faye gingerly closes her laptop and walks over to the window. She looks out onto her backyard and starts to cry. She then walks to her desk, turns on Taylor Swift’s innocent, and starts writing. “Dear family, friends and peers, I am so sorry on what i am

about to do. None of this was your fault. I frankly had no idea on what my future was going to be like and I did not want to know at this moment. This was all Janice’s fault. She made me kill myself. Her constant bullying made me think less of myself. They say what doesnt kill you makes you stronger. Well, I can only take too much pain. I love you all. Do not be a victim. Do what I could not do. Fight back.”

She then goes to her mothers bathroom, looks at the pills, dumps about 8 in her hand, and swallows. She immediately starts crying. Faye: I’m sorry mom. I love you. Then she falls down to the ground. The stage is dark. After about 20 seconds, a man in a very classy suit comes on stage and finds Faye. Grandfather: Is that her? Is that who you sent me for? God: She needs you now more then ever. Grandfather: Who is it?

God: Someone you know very well. Grandfather: Is that... Is that Faye? God: You know what needs to be done. (Grandfather runs over to Faye, helps her up and tries to lift her up) Grandfather: Wake up Faye. Its your grandfather! Grandpa Jim! I used to watch you when you were young! Faye: Wha.... Grandfather: I used to sing to you all the time! Before this Call me maybe crap was around. Faye: Grandpa... Is that you...? Grandpa: You need to get up. I can not loose you. Not like this. Faye: Grandpa, how did you... Why did you.... Is this real life? Grandpa: Yes! Yes it is. Now please get up! (Faye regains full consciousness, gives a hug to her grandfather) Faye: Am I in heaven? Grandpa: Thankfully, no. Your in this dream type or thing. It is really hard to explain. But your not dead. Faye: Why not?

Grandpa: Because God has a time for when he wants everyone to go. Thankfully, your time was not today. Faye: I wanted to go. It was and still is difficult making friends. And with this video, if you know about it. Grandpa: Oh, I know about it. I am on the youtube. Faye: Great. So it had about 300 views when I saw it and 30 likes. That has to be something. Grandpa: It is something. Shit. Faye: (Laughs) Grandpa I missed you so much. So, if I did not ask already, why are you here? Grandpa: Well, remember when we watched The Muppets Christmas Carol together that one year, lets pretend that I am your ghosts. All three of them. Faye: So you are going to show me my past, present and future? Grandpa: Yes. Exactly. Faye, you had a bad day in school. That shouldn’t determine your life. Faye: I really wished I regret it. I can not take the pain for much longer. Grandpa: I bet your answer will change after our trip. Faye: If you say so. But whatever we do together, I am ready Grandpa: Good. Hold on!
9

Act 2, Scene 1 (Setting: Faye and her Grandpa are in the car, wind is blowing past while they go to the past) Faye: So, on this trip type of thing, you are going to show me my past present and future? Grandpa: Yes, that is correct. Faye: So where are we going first? Grandpa: Where you we’re born, Saint Barnabas! I was the fifth person to hold you. I was in your room with your mother and father, and after your father fainted, I picked him up, put him on a chair and held you. It was the best moment of my life. Faye: Was I light? Grandpa: As light as a feather. Now, the next thing that I will show you is your first friend, Landon. You were over my house and I remember you wanting to go to the park so badly. You would not leave me alone. You said Grandpa Grandpa! Take me! So, I did. And you went on the big slide and you fell, and before I could lift you up, Landon helped you. Faye: How old was I? How old was he? Grandpa: Woah woah! Can I finish? You were both around 5-6. You did tell me on the way home he had, and I quote, nice face. Faye: So he did have a crush on me. He always told me I had a look like no other. Grandpa: Yes! He did, and still does, have a crush on you. Faye: But he is dating Janice!

Grandpa: He wanted to tell you something. He was actually the first one to discover your body. Faye: Really? I must have made him cry. Grandpa: Yes. Yes you did. But we are not worrying about this right now. We are still on your past. Now, this is your first day of high school. The first person to actually come up and talk to you is Janice. Faye: Why? We hate each other. Grandpa: That was not until middle school. Faye: I never knew why she was so mad at me. I always liked her. Grandpa: This is where things start to get fishy. You remember in 4th grade when you started coming in with a new bookbag and iPod and all this other expenisve stuff? Faye: Yeah. Because my mom got a 50%percent Christmas bonus. Grandpa: Exactly. See what you did not know is that Janice’s dad got laid off and got a divorce from her mom. Faye: That is ridiculous! Grandpa: But honey, it’s true. She was going through a rough time. Faye: That is why she did, and still hates me? Grandpa: Unfortunately.

Faye: That means she was out to get me. Grandpa: Just a little. Faye: Was she the one who stole my iPod and later “found it” so she can look good and be the hero of the class? Grandpa: Your catching on a lot faster. Faye: I hate her! And I know for a fact that her mom met a lawyer, married him and became so rich! All within a year. Grandpa: Yeah, Janice’s mother gets around. Faye: I can not believe this. Why did I kill myself over a stupid little brat like her? Grandpa: That is what I am saying! You know that you are better than her. Faye: Not better, stronger. Physically and mentally. Grandpa: That a girl. Faye: Where are we going next? Grandpa: The present. After they find your body. Faye: Yippie.

(The setting from a light sunny background quickly changes to a dark foggy mist)
Faye: Who found me? Grandpa: Surprisingly, Landon. He ran over because he had something to tell you, and he found you like this. Faye: Oh no. I can not imagine the pain. Grandpa: He broke down in tears. All he said was that he wished he came sooner. He wished that you gave him a chance to say he loved you. Faye: It wasnt my fault! If I new he liked me, I would have shown interest. Grandpa: He is a teenage boy. He can only do so much. Faye: Can we not talk about him right now? Is my mom okay? Grandpa: Yes, and no. Faye: What do you mean? Grandpa: Your mother went into shock. Your father has been in the hospital waiting for her to get released and he also has been told by the doctors you wont make it through the night. Faye: So, right now, I could be dead? Grandpa: Yes, unfortunately. Faye: (starts sobbing) But I didn’t accomplish anything in my life that I wanted too!
11

Grandpa: Exactly Faye! You did not even graduate high school yet! Faye: I want to live again. I want to be a back in my body! I want to be ANYWHERE but here. Let me go home Grandpa! LET ME GO HOME! Grandpa: I can not do that. I have to show you the rest of your life. Faye: I dont care! (Granpda starts holding faye)
Let me go. LET me go. LET ME GO! (Faye starts crying) Fine. Fine I’ll see it.

12

Act 2, Scene 3
Setting: Grandpa: Here is what has happened since you died. Janice has bullied 2 more girls and one throughout her high school years: Lucy Myers, Rachelle Fess, and Kayden Chestney. Faye: What did they do to her? Grandpa: Nothing. Janice was just bored. She needed someone to pick on. Faye: What happened to them? Grandpa: Lucy transferred schools, Rachelle got a restraining order and Kayden killed himself. Faye: Like me? Grandpa: Yes like you. Faye: And she hasn’t been charged for anything? Grandpa: No. Nothing. Faye: This is ridiculous! Nothing?! Grandpa: Yes nothing! Nothing is done because no one has said anything. Faye: I want to say something. I want to save a life. Grandpa: Yes. I know, but you should have thought about that when you were trying to kill yourself! Faye: Let me go back to my life. Please let me do it.

Grandpa: I am. Once you realize that you can not take life for granted. When you realize that you need to talk for those that do not have a voice. When you need to be a voice, and not just a number. Faye: Grandpa, I will. I’m sorry. When I go back, I will fight for myself. I will make sure that I am a winner at this. Grandpa: Faye, I am counting on you. Faye: Will you be leaving me? Grandpa: No! I will never leave you! I’m still going to be here, in spirit. Faye: I am going to miss you, you know that. Grandpa: Faye, come here. (Gives faye a big hug, holds her tight. They both start crying) Faye: I love you grandpa. Grandpa: I love you too, kiddo. Faye: Wait grandpa, what happened to Landon? Grandpa: Oh, you’ll see. (Grandpa leaves the scene, its dark, foggy, stormy, Faye is asleep in her room, Taylor swift still playing, her tears are dry)

(She looks at her phone, 2 missed calls from her mom, 4 missed calls from her dad, 20 missed calls from Landon. She walks to the computer, OoVoo is opened and Landon is calling her, she waits a few seconds, then answers.) Landon: Where the hell have you been? I have been worried so sick. I came over, the door is locked. I called your mom and dad, nothing. I went to volleyball practice and asked everyone for you. Nothing. I am so shaken and I feel so bad. And I... Faye: Landon, I... Landon: No. I have something to tell you Faye. I am in love with you. I have been since the sixth grade, and you have not noticed it. I broke up with Janice, and I am so sick of this. Faye: Landon, I Landon: No, I am so sad. I wish I can just yell at you but I can’t. I never yell at friends. I am just so sad. Faye: Landon, shut up! I am so sorry. I really am. And I love you too. I have had the biggest crush on you for a while now, but you never seemed to care. I feel bad, but I don’t feel it now. It’s so good to tell you. And I am so done with Janice. I have a plan. Landon: What are you going to do? Faye: Take care of it. Text me. (End the call)

(Faye gets changed, prints out pictures of chats between her and Janice, runs out the door, goes on her bike and rides into town to her school, She sees her principal and gets his attention) Faye: Mr. Myers! Mr. Myers! Mr Myers: Yes, can I help you? Faye: Yes, you can. Your student has been bulling me and a whole bunch of other students for the past year now, and I am sick of it. Mr Myers: Well, I am sorry to hear that! Who is the student? Faye: Janice Benson. (Mr Myers looks shocked, startled) Faye: Do you know her? Mr M: I know of her. You aren’t the first student who has came to me. Faye: I know. I’ve been aware. Mr M: Well, Thank you, and I will look into it. Faye: Will you really? Mr M: Oh? Do you have a doubt? Faye: Well you just said other people came to you about it and, well she is still in school.
14

Mr M: I do not feel like discussing this right now. Come back after school, okay? Faye: No, this is the only time I can speak to you about this. Mr. M: Well, I can say that I will do all I can do to protect you, and other students. (Faye looks around in the room, sees pictures with Mr M in a room that looks like Janice’s bedroom. She becomes startled and then sees him with Janice’s dad shaking hands.) Faye: You are a friend of them! Mr. M: Yes, I know. Faye: But why?! You know they are awful people! They bully and treat those under them like complete crap! It just isn't right!

Faye: I had no idea, but still, you know they are bad people. Mr. M: But they are rich! Faye: You are the biggest gold digger I have ever seen. Mr M: Your funny. You really are. But still, I can not let them push us over any longer. Faye: Why can’t you expel her or something? Mr. M: We would then have to cut our after school programs. Faye: I can have people help and try to help donate. Mr. M: That may work, but for right now, we are not doing so good with everything. But I will honestly talk to her about it. Faye: Thank goodness! Mr. M: With you here.

Mr. M: I have to do whatever it takes so that I can keep my job and continue the funding for this school! They provide some of the money for the after school programs, the field trips, even some of the iPads we got last year. All because of them. Faye: What about all the fundraisers? The bake sales? The car washes? Even selling candy at valentines day?! Mr M: Those all made less then two thousand dollars! Do you know how much I payed just so that I can get the band 3 new drums, flutes and clarinets? 5 thousand dollars.

Faye: Your kidding, right? Mr. M: Not at all. You want to have your say? I will let you. Faye: When? Where? Who will be there? I may be busy! Mr. M: Tomorrow, after school, and just me you and Janice. Faye: No funny business? Mr. M: I promise. Faye: Well, You have a deal.
