Accidents: 1. Consider houses 8 and 12 for accidents: 8th serious illness, accident, suicide; 12th – selfundoing, confinement in bed or hospital, defects, deformities, amputation or mutilation of a limb, bodily injury. ars, !aturn, "ahu, and #etu cause accidents. 2. $f the sub lord of either the %scendant or the 8th house cusp is posited in the star of the occupant or the o&ner of the 8th or 12th house, there &ill be an accident. '. (he danger to the indi)idual*s life &ill li+ely pro)e fatal if the sub lord is in the star of either the occupant or the o&ner of the 8th, ,th, or 2nd. -. (he indi)idual &ill sur)i)e the accident if the sub lord is in the star of either the occupant or o&ner of the 2nd, ,th, and 11th. Adoption: 1. What indicators show adoption in a chart? %n indi)idual &ho has been denied children &ill opt for adopting a child if the .th cuspal sub lord and /upiter, !aturn, ercury, ars, and oon, are connected to the -th, 8th, and 12th houses. Aspects: 1. Below I am raising two important questions on western aspects. I would appreciate a response when you find time (I am in no great hurry). Is the aspect etween two planets directional? In other words! if a planet! say "oon aspects #enus! can we also say #enus aspects "oon? 0!andy1 2es - &e can say that - but let me e3plain. 4estern aspects are relati)e to the angular relationships bet&een t&o planets. !o the 4estern aspects run both &ays 5in both directions6. $t is the angular degree of separation on either side that actually determines the aspect. 7o&e)er, the planet that is doing the aspecting 5applying to&ard the other planet - or the faster mo)ing planet6, &ill officially and rightfully be the aspecting planet, &hile the other is the aspected planet. 8or e3ample, if oon is aspecting 9enus 5 oon applying to&ard 9enus6, &e can also say that 9enus aspects the oon because both planets are at an aspectual angular distance from one another, and therefore both planets are feeling the impact of the energy e3change bet&een one another - for good or for bad 5depending on the angle of the aspect6. :ut technically - in the case you cited abo)e - oon is aspecting 9enus, and 9enus is the aspected planet. $f they are in trinal aspect 512; degrees6, their influence &ill benefit one another: if they are in s<uare to one another 5=; degrees separation6, their influence &ill be challenging. !o the effects are determined by the angular degree of separation, and &hether the aspect forms a soft angle 5helpful6 or hard angle 5challenging6. !ometimes you &ill hear 4esterners refer to >soft or hard> aspects, or >soft or hard> angles...the soft being trines and se3tiles, etc, the hard being s<uares and oppositions, etc.. $. %r is it that an aspect &ust 'e(ists' etween two planets and one planet does not aspect the other (or oth planets aspect each other)? 0!andy1 :oth planets aspect one another, :?( the aspecting planet is the one &ho is bringing his personal energy and influence to the other planet. 7o&e)er, e)en though the other planet 5the aspected planet6 is not initiating the energy e3change 5is not the applying aspect or faster mo)ing planet6, the aspected planet nonetheless still has an impact due to the mutual e3change of their planetary energy falling in the angular distance from one another, so the aspected planet*s effects &ill also be felt to some degree on the aspecting planet. ). I ha*e een under the impression that only a faster mo*ing planet can aspect a slower mo*ing planet and that aspect direction is important! that is! "oon aspects #enus and not the other way. +or e(ample! the aspect descriptions found in the oo, 'Aspects in Astrology' y -ue .omp, ins seem to support this elief. /owe*er! on page $01 of -econd 2eader! 3-3 tal,s of '"oon recei*ing good aspect from #enus'. "oon eing faster than #enus! this is not possi le unless 3-3 was tal,ing of #edic aspects. 0!andy1 $ hope the abo)e some&hat clarified that for you. Direction, ho&e)er, is important, so pay attention to &hether or not the planetary aspect is applying or separating. Applying means that the planets ha)e not yet reached e3act impact, &hile separating means that the aspect has already culminated, but the acceptable orb of influence is still in effect 5residual effects for either good or for bad - depending on the angle of the aspect and planets in)ol)ed6. $ personally feel that the most important thing to remember about 4estern aspects &hen assessing them in a chart is that the strongest aspects are those that are i4directional. ono-directional aspects indicate that the planets are either both direct or both retrograde - lea)ing one planet doing the applying. Bi4 directional aspects ho&e)er are more po&erful because both planets are coming at each other: 8or e3ample - one planet is in direct motion &hile the other planet is in retrograde motion, so there is deliberate intent on both energies to bring their respecti)e influence to the other planet. %lthough there are many schools of thought in the 4estern system, in my humble opinion, bi-directional aspects 5for common sense reasons6 are by far the most po&erful - and the ones to &atch closely. 0. .he other point of confusion is a out the or s. +irstly! *arious authors suggest different or *alues and there does not appear to e a 'standard' or 'the most4widely used' *alues. 0!andy1 (here is no one school of 4estern thought that agrees on orbs, and the e3act si@e of the orb has ne)er been officially established in 4estern %strology. (he closer the aspect is to being e3act, 5the tighter the orb6, the more po&er it has to pac+ a po&erful punch for good or for bad - but also remember that its strength also depends on the type of aspect in)ol)ed - as all types of angular distances 5aspects6 are not gi)en the same degree of importance, nor the same >one si@e fits all> orb. !ee #A: %spects: (he odifiers

and note the aspects in the (able listed in bold print - $ belie)e there are about 1; of them. (hese are the aspects that are gi)en priority by the majority of practicing astrologers, for delineating a chart. 5. -econdly! I ha*e noticed that there are two sets of or s! one for the *arious aspects and another for the different planets. .his is found in 3-3 2eader 1 and you ha*e also discussed these in your articles. %ther western astrology oo,s tal, of either! not oth! of these. /ow does one use these in com ination? An e(ample detailing the calculation with imaginary planetary positions (including 'applying' and 'separating') will e of great help. 6ou could include the re*ised e(planation in your 37 -tellar notes for the enefit of e*eryone. 0!andy1 % general rule of thumb is that the faster the planet is mo)ing, the sooner an aspect &ill be formed &ith another planet, so the &ider the orb allo&ance. !o the oon and the %scendant &ill ha)e a significantly &ider orb allo&ance than ?ranus, Beptune, or Aluto - &hich can be as tight as an allo&ance of only 1 to 2 degrees. Crbs for aspects bet&een faster and slo&er mo)ing planets are usually gi)en a )alue of the a)erage bet&een the greater and the lesser. :ut this is all highly relati)e to each astrologer*s indi)idual e3perience and preference. %lso note the Crb (able at the bottom of the %spect (able on #A: %spects: (he odifiers . 8or the outers $ &ould recommend an allo&ance of 1 to ' degrees of orbital distance - the tighter the better. 8. .han,s *ery much for such a detailed e(planation. It is much clearer now. By ' i4directional aspect'! do you mean what is also called 'mutual application' in 3-3 readers? 0!andy1 $ &ould need to see the conte3t in &hich >mutual application> &as &ritten in the #!# "eader to be able to ans&er that. $ say that because >mutual reception> is also another term, 5&here t&o different planets each occupy the other*s sign - li+e ercury in Aisces and /upiter in 9irgo6 and cannot be confused &ith bidirectional aspects. (o gi)e you an e3ample of a bi-directional aspect - let*s say that /upiter is retrograde at 1; degrees Cancer and ars is direct at 1; degrees %ries. (hey are both >applying bi-directionally> to&ard a s<uare angle 5aspect6 to one another - in other &ords - one planet alone is not the only planet doing the applying - they both are applying to&ard one another. (his type of aspect is ma+ing the contact po&erful ifD&hen the aspect pea+s to e3act 5li+e before /upiter turns direct6. $f /upiter &as mo)ing retrograde at 1; degrees Cancer, and ars &as mo)ing direct at 11 degrees %ries, then the s<uare aspect is still bi-directional, but >separating> at this point rather than >applying> - because it has already pea+ed 5become e3act6 &hen ars &as at 1; degrees %ries - forming an e3act s<uare to /upiter at 1; degrees Cancer. !o the hea)iest influence has already been hit and mar+ed 5&hen both &ere at 1; degrees6, and the impact of the influence is no& beginning to separate &hen ars reaches 11 degrees and begins to mo)e a&ay in orb. 9hildren:5a6 Consider the houses 2, .and 11 for childbirth 52 nd increase in the number of the members of the family due to birth of a child; .th first conception or pregnancy, progeny or child;11 th is the .th from the ,th6. (he .th for females and 11th for males are important. 5b6 Consider the houses 1, - and 1; for absence of children or for separation from the children 5 being 12th from 2,. and 11 respecti)ely /upiter is the natural significator of childbirth. $n females oon is fertility and ars is menstruation. $n males 9enus is fertility 5sperm6 and !un is )itality. With respect to birth of children for females (mothers), the 5th house should be examined first, and in the case of males (fathers), the 11th house should be examined first. A ortion: 1. When counting the num er of children! such as the first child eing represented y the 5th house cusp! the $nd child eing represented y the :th house cusp! the third child eing represented y the ;th house cusp! etc.! what happens when there has een an a ortion? <o we count that as a child? ista+es made here &ill gi)e mista+es in predicting correctly the se3 of each child and the number of children. 4hen an abortion ta+es place after ' months from conception, the fetus is counted as a child because during that abortion, the se3 of the child &as clearly de)eloped, but &hen abortion ta+es place before the completion of the ' month gestational period, this pregnancy is not ta+en as a child birth because the se3 of the child, prior to that time, is not clear. !o this factor must be clearly +no&n for an astrologer to fi3 both the se3 of the child, and the correct number of children that the mother &ill deli)er. 9onstructing a Building: 1. $f the cuspal sub lord of the -th is the significator of the -th, 11th, or 12th, one &ill ha)e his o&n building during the joint period of the significators of the -th, 11th, and 12th. <eath: 1. 4hen !aturn, "ahu, and #etu simultaneously transit in the stars and subs of the badha+a and mara+a significators in the birth chart - during a particular year in <uestion - the nati)e is li+ely to suffer from serious illness. 2. 4hen !aturn, "ahu, and #etu simultaneously transit in the stars and subs of the badha+a and mara+a significators of the spouse in the birth chart - during a particular year in <uestion - the nati)e*s spouse is li+ely to suffer from serious illness. '. (he sub lord of the lagna rising is +no&n to ha)e a mysterious lin+ &ith death. 4hile judging death, it is in)ariably found that the sub lord of the lagna rising - &hether it be for a horoscope cast for the birth time or for a prashna5&ithin 2-=6, it has an intimate relation &ith the time of death - for e3ample - its period, sub period, or sub sub period must be connected &ith the time of death. <isease and 9ure: 1. $f the sub lord of the Eth cusp is in the star of the occupant or o&ner of the Eth or 1st, the nati)e may suffer from disease.

8or F3ample: !ee :irth 7oroscope G1 and note that the %scendant is on opposition 518; degree aspect6 to ercury, the o&ner of the Eth house. !o the planets in ercury*s star &ill cause sic+ness to the nati)e. :oth oon and "ahu are in the star of ercury, so during the bhu+ti*s of both the oon and "ahu, the health of the nati)e &as disturbed e)ery no& and then, and sic+ness acti)ated. 2. Consider the Eth house for sic+ness or disease. 8or cure, consider the 1st, .th, and 11th: 1st - health, .th is 12th to the Eth - or absence of sic+ness, 11th is 12th to 12 - or absence of bedridden sic+ness. '. ercury any&here in mute signs afflicted by !aturn, causes stammer. -. $f ars adds his influence by bad aspect, then the nati)e &ill tal+ )ery fast, lisp, or pronounce his &ords badly. .. 4hen ercury happens to be in a mute sign in opposition to the oon, the nati)e &ill ha)e a defect in speech. E. !aturn in the lagna in a mute sign causes a speech impediment. ,. (he 2nd house go)erns )ocal organs. $f a )oice sign 5Jemini, Hibra, or %<uarius are called musical or )oice signs; some &estern authors consider 9irgo and !agittarius also - some also include (aurus6 is found in the 2nd house in a horoscope, especially if 9enus or ercury is posited there and free from affliction, then elo<uence or some )ocal gift may be predicted. /upiter indicates that one &ill offer ad)ice, preach, andDor &ill be a platform spea+er. ars and /upiter gi)e the nati)e assertion, ma+ing him an orator &ho can mo)e the masses by his fiery speech. ercury and !aturn sho& that he &ill modify his speech according to the time, circumstances, and cro&d before him. =onge*ity: 1.What are the indications for full longe*ity? 1. Hoo+ at the sub lord of the %scendant. $f this sub lord is posited in the star of a planet &ho is in the 1st, .th, =th or 1;th, or o&ns any of these houses, this tells us that the chart o&ner has a long life. 2. (o ma+e this a bit clearer, if the sub lord of the %scendant is not in the na+shatra of either the dispositor of - or lords of - the ara+a !thanas 52nd or ,th6 or :adha+as 511th house for Cardinal signs rising, =th house for 8i3ed signs rising, and ,th house for utable signs rising6, a long life is indicated. '. 7armonious indicators for longe)ity are judged by houses 1, ', and 8, &hile houses 2, ,, and 12 - along &ith the badha+a house, are detrimental for longe)ity. -. $f the cuspal sub lord of the %scendant is the significator of the badha+a and mara+a houses, the life is short. .. $f the cuspal joint rulers 5the sign lord, the star lord, and the sub lord6 of the %scendant or the 8th house cusp are the significators of the badha+a and mara+a houses, their joint period is )ery critical for life. =ea*ing a >o : 1. $f the sub lord of the 1;th or Eth cusp is the significator of the 1st, .th, or =th, the <uerent can lea)e ser)ice during the joint period of the significators of the 1st, .th, and =th. (hese significators are generally connected &ith the houses of ser)ice, &hich are the 2nd, the Eth, and the 1;th. =itigation: 1. %ccording to #A, the Eth house represents litigation, and the ,th house indicates the opponent in litigation. 2. (herefore, litigation &ould be imminent &hene)er the significators of the Eth and ,th houses are operating in life. '. (he cause of the litigation is represented by the planets connected &ith - or associated &ith - the Eth house or its lord. -. !uccess in litigation is promised by the lord of the 11th house or planets in the 11th house. !uccess is also ensured if the Eth and the ,th houses come under the influence of the lords of the stars or the occupants of the 1st, 'rd, -th, Eth, 1;th and 11th houses. .. $f the lord of the Eth house is connected &ith the 11th house, or the 11th house is connected &ith the lord of the Eth house, success in litigation is reali@ed. E. (he abo)e 5G.6 also suggests that the connection of the lords of the 12th and .th houses &ill cause failure in absolute terms. Intuition: 1. (he =th house, lord, significator, and sub, aspects, etc., should also be e3amined for intuition.. 2. oon is called the mind. $t is li+e a mirror - e3actly reflecting the object.
