ACTIVE INGREDIENT TESTING PROCEDURE

APPARATUS LIST 1. 500ml marked volumetric flask 2. 5ml bulb pipette 3. Titration bottle 4. Dropper REAGENTS LIST 1. Powder sample 2. Distilled water 3. Acid indicator 4. Chloroform 5. Hymen solution

PROCEDURE 1. Take 500ml of marked volumetric flask and clean it using distilled water 2. Extract between 1-2g of the powder sample and put it in the marked volumetric flask and fill with water up to the mark whilst vigorously shaking the flask to ensure complete dissolution of the powder 3. Take a 5ml bulb pipette and extract 5ml of the sample from the flask and then pour it into the titration bottle 4. Put 2 drops of acid indicator into the titration bottle using a dropper and mix well 5. Using a 5ml bulb pipette, extract 5ml of chloroform and add to the titration bottle 6. Shake the mixture well to form a reddish brown mixture 7. Fill the 50ml burette with hymen solution and then use it to titrate the reddish brown mixture 8. The titre range should be between 0-1.5ml and the end point colour should be greenishblueish
