What Is an Alumni Association? Alumni association is an organization of postgraduates. Usually, such associations are organized for the benefits of alumni and their educational establishments. But nothing is ideal in our world. And nobody can undoubtedly say that alumni associations have only advantages and no disadvantages. Nowadays, all of us should remember that there is no such thing as a free lunch. Models of Alumni Associations There are several models of alumni associations: the membership dues model, the inclusive model, and the donor benefits model. Each model has its own peculiarities and features. And each of them has advantages and disadvantages. What Is the Membership Dues Model? The membership dues model presupposes annual pay, or dues, for the membership in this or that alumni association. Such membership offers postgraduates various privileges. Advantages of the Membership Dues Model of Alumni Associations But, there are various obstacles and conditions for such model. On the one hand, all dues come to form funds of this or that educational establishment. Money from the fund can be spent for the benefit of a college or university. Besides, this model of alumni associations helps to find out who is an active postgraduate and who is not. Several years before the graduation an educational establishment was their second home. It is not for nothing that an educational establishment is called alma mater. Why not to repay your college or university for a good service? Disadvantages of the Membership Dues Model of Alumni Associations On the other hand, a postgraduate adores his/her educational establishment but he/she has to pay to be a member of his/her alumni association. The other point is that some postgraduates tend to think they do not have to give money for things which should be free of charge, for example, libraries, publications, etc. And what about eternal support, moral values, love, care, etc? Can it also be measured with money equivalent?
