About Your Security System
Your DSC Securily Syslem has been designed lo provide you wilh lhe grealesl possible llexibilily and conve-
nience. Pead lhis manual carelully and have your inslaller inslrucl you on your syslem's operalion and on which
lealures have been implemenled in your syslem. All users ol lhis syslem should be equally inslrucled in ils use. lill
oul lhe "Syslem lnlormalion" page wilh all ol your zone inlormalion and access codes and slore lhis manual in a
sale place lor lulure relerence.
NOTE: The PowerSeries security system includes specific false alarm reduction features and is classified with ANSI
/ SIA CP-01-2000. To comply with this specification, your installation must have a minimum of two keypads. Please
consult your installer for further information regarding the false alarm reduction features built into your system as all
are not covered in this manual.
Fire Detection
This equipmenl is capable ol moniloring lire deleclion devices such as smoke deleclors and providing a warning
il a lire condilion is delecled. Cood lire deleclion depends on having adequale number ol deleclors placed in
appropriale localions. This equipmenl should be inslalled in accordance wilh NlPA 72 (N.l.P.A., 8allerymarch
Park, Ouincey MA 02269). Carelully review lhe lamily Lscape Planning guidelines in lhis manual.
NOTE: Your installer must enable the fire detection portion of this equipment before it becomes functional.
Testing
To insure lhal your syslem conlinues lo lunclion as inlended, you musl lesl your syslem weekly. Please reler lo
lhe "Tesling your Syslem" seclion in lhis manual. ll your syslem does nol lunclion properly, call your inslalling
company lor service.
Monitoring
This syslem is capable ol lransmilling alarms, lroubles & emergency inlormalion over lelephone lines lo a cenlral
slalion. ll you iniliale an alarm by mislake, immedialely call lhe cenlral slalion lo prevenl an unnecessary response.
NOTE: The monitoring function must be enabled by the installer before it becomes functional.
SIA NOTE: There is a communicator delay of 30 seconds in this control panel. It can be removed, or it can be in-
creased up to 45 seconds, at the option of the end-user by consulting with the installer.
Maintenance
Wilh normal use, lhe syslem requires minimum mainlenance. Nole lhe lollowing poinls.
º Do nol wash lhe securily equipmenl wilh a wel clolh. Lighl dusling wilh a slighlly moislened clolh should
remove normal accumulalions ol dusl.
º Use lhe syslem lesl described in "Tesling Your Syslem" lo check lhe ballery condilion. We recommend, how-
ever, lhal lhe slandby balleries be replaced every 3-5 years.
º lor olher syslem devices such as smoke deleclors, passive inlrared, ullrasonic or microwave molion deleclors or
glassbreak deleclors, consull lhe manulaclurer's lileralure lor lesling and mainlenance inslruclions.
GeneraI System Operation
Your securily syslem is made up ol a DSC conlrol panel, one or more keypads and various sensors and deleclors.
The conlrol panel will be mounled oul ol lhe way in a ulilily closel or in a basemenl. The melal cabinel conlains
lhe syslem eleclronics, luses and slandby ballery.
NOTE: Only the installer or service professional should have access to the control panel.
All lhe keypads have an audible indicalor and command enlry keys. The LLD keypads have a group ol zone and
syslem slalus lighls. The LCD keypad has an alphanumeric liquid cryslal display (LCD). The keypad is used lo send
commands lo lhe syslem and lo display lhe currenl syslem slalus. The keypad(s) will be mounled in a convenienl
localion inside lhe prolecled premises close lo lhe enlry/exil door(s).
The securily syslem has several zones ol area proleclion and each ol lhese zones will be connecled lo one or
more sensors (molion deleclors, glassbreak deleclors, door conlacls, elc.). A sensor in alarm will be indicaled by
lhe corresponding zone lighls llashing on a LLD keypad or by wrillen messages on lhe LCD keypad.

Addilional lealures ol lhe PC!6!6/PC!832/PC!864 Securily Syslem are an Aulomalic lnhibil (Swinger Shuldown)
lor Alarm, Tamper and Trouble signals aller 3 occurrences in a given sel period (see Seclion 5.6 Oplion |377¦ in
lhe lnslallalion Manual). There is also a Programmable Keypad Lockoul oplion (see Seclion 5.3 Oplion |0!2¦ in
lhe lnslallalion Manual).

A securily syslem cannol prevenl emergencies. ll is only inlended lo alerl you and il included your cenlral sla-
lion ol an emergency silualion. Securily syslems are generally very reliable bul lhey may nol work under all con-
dilions and lhey are nol a subslilule lor prudenl securily praclices or lile and properly insurance. Your securily
syslem should be inslalled and serviced by qualilied securily prolessionals who should inslrucl you on lhe level ol
proleclion lhal has been provided and on syslem operalions.
PK5500 Language Selection
Your keypad may have lhe capabilily lo display messages in dillerenl languages.
!. Press and hold bolh keys simullaneously.
2. Using lhe keys, scroll lhrough lhe available languages.
3. Press lo selecl your desired language.
Arming & Disarming the System
Arming (Turning On/Setting)
Close all sensors (i.e. slop molion and close doors). The Peady ( ) indicalor should be on.
To arm, press and hold lhe Away key lor 2 seconds and/or enler your Access Code, or press lo Ouick
Arm. During lhe selling slale (exil delay aclive) lhe Armed ( ) and Peady ( ) indicalors will lurn on, and lhe key-
pad will sound one beep per second. You now have ____ seconds lo leave lhe premises (please check wilh your
inslaller lo have lhis lime programmed). To cancel lhe arming sequence, enler your access code.
Away Arming (Turned On/Set)
When lhe exil delay is compleled, lhe alarm syslem is armed/sel and lhis is indicaled on lhe keypad as lollows.
lhe Peady ( ) indicalor will lurn oll, lhe Armed indicalor will remain on and lhe keypad will slop sounding.
Quick Exit
ll lhe syslem is armed and you need lo exil, use lhe Ouick Lxil lunclion lo avoid disarming and rearming lhe sys-
lem. Press and hold lhe Exit key lor 2 seconds or press . You now have 2 minules lo leave lhe premises
lhrough your exil door. When lhe door is closed again, lhe remaining exil lime is cancelled.
BeII/Siren Sounds After Away Arming
Audible Exit Fault
ln an allempl lo reduce lalse alarms, lhe Audible Lxil laull is designed lo nolily you ol an improper exil when
arming lhe syslem in lhe Away mode. ln lhe evenl lhal you lail lo exil lhe premises during lhe allolled exil delay
period, or il you do nol securely close lhe Lxil/Lnlry door, lhe syslem will nolily you lhal il was improperly armed
in lwo ways. lhe keypad will emil one conlinuous beep and lhe bell or siren will sound.
Your inslaller will lell you il lhis lealure has been enabled on your syslem. ll lhis occurs.
!. Pe-enler lhe premises.
2. Lnler your |access code¦ lo disarm lhe syslem. You musl do lhis belore lhe enlry delay limer expires.
3. lollow lhe Away arming procedure again, making sure lo close lhe enlry/exil door properly. (See "Away Arm-
ing (Turned On/Sel)".)
Arming Error
An error lone will sound il lhe syslem is unable lo arm. This will happen il lhe syslem is nol ready lo arm (i.e. sen-
sors are open), or il an incorrecl user code has been enlered. ll lhis happens, ensure all sensors are secure, press
and lry again.

Disarming (Turning Off /Unsetting)
Lnler your access code lo disarm anylime lhe syslem is armed (i.e. Armed ( ) indicalor is on). The keypad will
beep il you walk lhrough lhe enlry door. Lnler your code wilhin _____ seconds lo avoid an alarm condilion
(please check wilh your inslaller lo have lhis lime programmed).
Disarming Error
ll your code is invalid, lhe syslem will nol disarm and a 2-second error lone will sound. ll lhis happens, press
and lry again.
Stay Arming (PartiaIIy Turning On / Part Setting)
Slay arming will bypass lhe inlerior proleclion (i.e. molion sensors) and arm lhe perimeler ol lhe syslem (i.e.
doors and windows). Close all sensors (i.e. slop molion and close doors). The Peady ( ) indicalor should be on.
Ask your alarm company il lhis lunclion is available on your syslem.
Press and hold lhe 5tay key lor 2 seconds and/or enler your Access Code and do nol leave lhe premises (|| vour
|n:|a||er ha: oroqrammed |h|: ou||onì. During lhe selling slale (exil delay aclive), lhe Armed ( ) and Peady ( )
indicalors will lurn on, and lhe keypad will sound one beep every lhree seconds.
When lhe exil delay is compleled, lhe alarm syslem is armed/sel and lhis is indicaled on lhe keypad as lollows.
lhe Peady ( ) indicalor will lurn oll, lhe Armed ( ) indicalor will remain on and lhe keypad will slop sounding.
The Armed ( ) indicalor and 8ypass or Syslem indicalor will lurn on. The syslem will aulomalically bypass cerlain
inlerior sensors (i.e. molion sensors).
NOTE: For SIA FAR listed panels, the Stay Arming Exit Delay will be twice as long as the Away Arming Exit Delay.
Night Arming
To lully arm lhe syslem when il has been armed in Slay Mode, press | ¦|!¦ al any keypad. All inlerior zones will
now be armed excepl lor devices programmed as Nighl Zones.
Nighl zones are only armed in Away mode, lhis permils limiled movemenl wilhin lhe premises when lhe syslem is
lully armed. Lnsure lhal your inslaller has provided you wilh a lisl idenlilying zones programmed as nighl zones.
When lhe inlerior zones have been aclivaled (i.e., (*)(!) you musl enler your access code lo disarm lhe syslem lo
gain access lo inlerior areas lhal have nol been programmed as nighl zones.
SiIent Exit DeIay
ll lhe syslem is armed using lhe 5TAY bullon (Programmable lunclion Key) or using lhe "No Lnlry" Arming
melhod ( |access code¦), lhe audible progress annuncialion (keypad buzzer) will be silenced and lhe exil
lime will be doubled lor lhal exil period only.
Remote Arming and Disarming
The syslem can be armed and/or disarmed using lhe remole conlrol device (wireless key) model DSC WS4939.
When arming lhe syslem by using lhe Arm bullon on lhe wireless key, lhe syslem will acknowledge lhe command
by sounding a single bell squawk and when disarming using lhe Disarm bullon on lhe wireless key lhe syslem will
acknowledge lhe command by sounding lwo bell squawks lhal can be heard lrom lhe exlerior ol lhe premises.
Emergency Keys
Press lhe (F), (A) or (P) key lor 2 seconds lo generale a lire, Auxiliary or Panic alarm. The keypad sounder
will beep indicaling lhal lhe alarm inpul has been accepled and lransmission lo lhe cenlral slalion is underway.
Ask your alarm company il lhe emergency keys are available on your syslem.
NOTE: The Fire keys can be disabled by the installer.

Bypassing Zones
Use lhe zone bypassing lealure when you need access lo a prolecled area while lhe syslem is armed, or when a
zone is lemporarily oul ol service, bul you need lo arm lhe syslem. 8ypassed zones will nol be able lo sound an
alarm. 8ypassing zones reduces lhe level ol securily. ll you are bypassing a zone because il is nol working, call a
service lechnician immedialely so lhal lhe problem can be resolved and your syslem relurned lo proper working
order. Lnsure lhal no zones are uninlenlionally bypassed when arming your syslem.
Zones cannol be bypassed once lhe syslem is armed. 8ypassed zones are aulomalically cancelled each lime lhe
syslem is disarmed and musl be bypassed again, il required, belore lhe nexl arming.

basis, you can program lhem inlo lhe 8ypass Croup, so lhal you do nol have lo bypass each zone individually
every lime. One 8ypass Croup can be programmed on each parlilion.

Trouble Conditions
When a lrouble condilion is delecled, lhe Trouble ( ) or Syslem indicalor will lurn on, and lhe keypad will beep
every !0 seconds. Press lhe key lo silence lhe beeps. Press lo view lhe lrouble condilion. The Trouble
( ) or Syslem indicalor will llash. The corresponding lrouble will be represenled by numbers !-8.
Trouble Menu Acknowledgement
ll lhe Arming lnhibil lor All Troubles lealures is enabled, Trouble Menu Acknowledgemenl may be used. To use
lhis lealure while in lhe Trouble Menu ( ), press lo acknowledge and override lhe exisling lroubles, so
lhe syslem can be armed. An override evenl will also be generaled and logged, lhus idenlilying lhe user. To over-
ride open zones, use lhe Zone 8ypass lealure ( ).
Alarm Memory
When an alarm occurs, lhe Memory or Syslem indicalor (and lire indicalor, il applicable) will lurn on.
To view which sensor(s) generaled lhe alarm, press . The Memory or Syslem indicalor and corresponding
sensor number will llash (i.e. sensor 3).

your Masler Access Code. The Program or Syslem indicalor will begin lo llash, and lhe Armed ( ) indicalor will
lurn on.
Lnler lhe 2-digil number lo be programmed (i.e. 06 lor user access code 6, enler 40 lor lhe Masler Access Code).

The syslem can be programmed lo arm al a programmed lime each day, per parlilion.
Upon enlry ol lhis seclion, enler 4 digils lor lhe 24-hour Aulo-arm lime lor each day ol lhe week.
Al lhe selecled aulo-arm lime, lhe keypad buzzers will sound lor a programmed amounl ol lime (programmable
by lhe inslaller only) lo warn lhal an aulo-arm is in progress. The bell can also be programmed lo squawk once
every !0 seconds during lhis warning period. When lhe warning period is complele, lhe syslem will arm wilh no
exil delay and in lhe Away Mode.
Aulo-arming can be cancelled or poslponed by enlering a valid access code only, during lhe programmed warn-
ing period. Aulo-arming will be allempled al lhe same lime lhe nexl day. When lhe aulo-arming process is can-
celled or poslponed, lhe Aulo-arm Cancellalion Peporling Code will be lransmilled (il programmed).
ll arming is inhibiled by one ol lhe lollowing, lhe Aulo-arm Cancellalion lransmission will be communicaled.

Sensor Reset
Cerlain sensors, aller having delecled an alarm condilion, require a Reset lo exil lhe alarm condilion (i.e. glass
break sensors, smoke deleclors, elc.). Ask your alarm company il lhis lunclion is required on your syslem.
To resel lhe deleclors, press and hold lhe Reset key lor 2 seconds or press .
ll a sensor lails lo resel, il may slill be delecling an alarm condilion. ll lhe sensor resel is successlul, lhe alarm is

Testing Your Keypad Sounder and Siren
The Syslem Tesl provides several syslem lesls, and a lwo-second check ol lhe keypad sounder and bell or siren.

- The syslem aclivales all keypad sounders and bells or sirens lor lwo seconds. All keypad lighls lurn ON.
- PK5500/LCD5500 keypads will lighl all pixels
- The Peady, Armed, and Trouble LLD's will llash lor lhe duralion ol lhe lesl
3. To exil lhe lunclion menu, press .
Testing Your Entire System
All smoke deleclors in lhis inslallalion musl be lesled by your smoke deleclor inslaller or dealer once a year lo
ensure lhey are lunclioning correclly. ll is lhe user's responsibilily lo lesl lhe syslem weekly (excluding smoke
deleclors). Lnsure you lollow all lhe sleps in lhe 'Tesling Your Syslem' seclion above.

!. Prior lo lesling, ensure lhal lhe syslem is disarmed and lhe Peady lighl is on.
2. Press and close all zones lo relurn lhe syslem lo lhe Peady slale.
3. Perlorm a Syslem Tesl by lollowing lhe sleps in lhe previous seclion.
4. To lesl lhe zones, aclivale each deleclor in lurn (e.g., open each door/window or walk in molion deleclor
areas).
PK5500lLCD5500 keypads will display lhe lollowing message when each zone (deleclor) is aclivaled.
"Secure Syslem 8elore Arming < >", "Secure Syslem or Lnler Code" or "Secure or Arm Syslem". Use lhe
keys lo view which zones are open. The message will disappear when lhe zones are closed.
On an PK5501lLCD5501Z keypad, lhe display says "Open" when any zone (deleclor) is aclivaled. To see
which zones are open, press . The keypad will scroll lhe numbers ol all open zones.
On a PK5508lPK5516lPC55XXZ keypad, lhe zone lighl lurns ON when lhe zone (deleclor) is aclivaled. The
zone lighl lurns Oll when lhe zone is closed (e.g., door or window closed).

WaIk Test Mode
The inslaller can iniliale a Walk Tesl mode lor lhe syslem. While in Walk Tesl mode, The Peady, Armed, and Trou-
ble LLD's will llash lo indicale lhal Walk Tesl is aclive. When lhe syslem aulomalically lerminales lhe Walk Tesl
modes, il will annunciale wilh an audible warning (5 beeps every !0 seconds), beginning live minules prior lo lhe
lerminalion ol lhe lesl.
AIIowing Computer Access To Your System
lrom lime lo lime, your inslaller may need lo send inlormalion lo or relrieve inlormalion lrom your securily sys-
lem. Your inslaller will do lhis by having a compuler call your syslem over lhe lelephone line. You may need lo
prepare your syslem lo receive lhis 'downloading' call. To do lhis.
!. Press |Masler code¦ al any keypad. This allows downloading lor a limiled period ol lime. During
lhis lime, lhe syslem will answer incoming downloading calls.
