Overview of Character
Apollo is the god of prophecy, music, healing, and more commonly he is associated with the sun. He often appeared as a young man with golden hair, playing a musical instrument known as a lyre. During the Trojan war, Apollo aided the Trojans by sending an arrow into Achilles heal.

Apollo had numerous affairs, with goddesses and mortals, but he never married. He fell in love with Daphne, who was a nymph, and they had a child together. But she left him and fled to the mountains. Apollo tried to followed her, but to avoid him, she was transformed into a laurel tree.

Apollo at Delphi
One of Apollo·s first and greatest achievements was when he defeated the Python at Delphi. The Python had destroyed crops of surrounding villages and killed many people. Apollo used his arrows to shoot the Python who was hiding in a cave.

Apollo at Delphi
After slaying the Python, Gaia, or Mother Earth punished Apollo because the Python was one of her sons. Apollo·s punishment was that he had to spend nine years serving King Admetus as a cow herder. Delphi became a sacred place to Apollo. The Pythian Games were held there every four years in order to honor Apollo.
