5000.1.11.0 is the name of the major new ARIES software release for 2013. It delivers
improvements in three main areas:

Introduction
The ARIES 5000.1.11.0 release includes all the modules for ARIES System (Project Manager, Graphics,
and Economics), plus the optional modules for Modeler, Reserve Management System, and
DecisionSuite
TM
. Release details specifically for the Modeler are included at the end of main part of this
document.
This ARIES release is available for electronic software distribution, or by request, on a dedicated
distribution DVD, to all customers who are current on M&S. This is explained in detail below. It provides a
simple installation process which is described in the Installation Guide document included with the
release.
Customers running ARIES 5000.0.2.0 or later can use their existing software licenses. New users and
customers running older versions must obtain new license files to use this new ARIES release. This is
described in more detail below. Those customers who use a license server (local or network), as opposed
to a standalone license, must also have the R5000 version of the License Application Manager.
Release 5000 Compatibility
This ARIES release is compatible with the Landmark R5000 platform which is designed to increase the
usability and stability of all the applications, platforms, and third-party tools.
OS, Hardware, and Platforms
ARIES 5000.1.11.0 is a 32-bit multi-threaded application capable of supporting up to five processors. It
was tested primarily with MS Windows® 7 with limited testing on Windows XP 64 SP3 and Windows 8.
The basic hardware requirements have not changed. They include a DVD reader for local installations if
the electronic software distribution is not used. Hardware must be appropriate to run the chosen operating
system.
Oracle® 10g and 11g, MS SQL Server 2008 and 2012, and MS SQL Express 2008 and 2012 databases
are supported by the program, as are MS Access databases in the .mdb and .accdb formats. While
ARIES 5000.1.11.0 was not tested on Oracle 9i or SQL Server 2005, it is unlikely that any problems will
arise with these older databases.
If needed MS SQL Express 2008 or 2012 should be downloaded from Microsoft. MS SQL Server Express
2012 has not been tested extensively, but no problems are expected.
For wide area network environments, such as Citrix, the ARIES installations are custom and must be
implemented and supported by your company network administrators or the Landmark Consulting
Services group.

software are provided as general guidelines. They will vary depending on types of projects, project sizes,
number of users, and network infrastructure and traffic.

Third Party Applications
Halliburton uses various third-party applications in the development of its software. Halliburton
acknowledges that certain third party code has been bundled with, or embedded in, its software. The
licensors of this third party code, and the terms and conditions of their respective licenses, can be found
in ARIES by clicking the Patents and Legal Notices button on the Help About… dialog. This dialog is
accessible from the Help menu in all modules.
International Trade Compliance
This application is manufactured or designed using U.S. origin technology and is therefore subject to the
export control laws of the United States. Any use or further disposition of such items is subject to U.S.
law. Exports from the United States and any re-export thereafter may require a formal export license
authorization from the government. If there are doubts about the requirements of the applicable law, it is
recommended that the buyer obtain qualified legal advice. These items cannot be used in the design,
production, use, or storage of chemical, biological, or nuclear weapons, or missiles of any kind.

Under the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the U.S. Government assigns your organization
or client, as exporter/importer of record, responsibility for determining the correct authorization for the item
at the time of export/import. Restrictions may apply to shipments based on the products, the customer, or
the country of destination, and an export license may be required by the Department of Commerce prior
to shipment. The U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security provides a website to assist you with determining
the need for a license and with information regarding where to obtain help.

Definitions
CCATS (Commodity Classification Automated Tracking System) - the tracking number assigned by the
U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) to products formally reviewed and classified by the
government. The CCATS provides information concerning export/re-export authorizations, available
exceptions, and conditions.
ECCN (Export Control Classification Number) -The ECCN is an alpha-numeric code, e.g., 3A001, that
describes a particular item or type of item, and shows the controls placed on that item. The CCL
(Commerce Control List) is divided into ten broad categories, and each category is further subdivided into
five product groups. The CCL is available on the EAR Website.

The ECCN Number, License Type, and the CCATS Numbers for this product are included in the table
below. Also included is the date the table was last updated.

Distribution
This latest ARIES version is available for you to download electronically using the Landmark Software
Manager (LSM), subject to authorization and registration by your company for you. The link to the LSM
web site is http://esd.halliburton.com/download/download.jsp.
You can schedule your downloads, or you can download one or more applications immediately.
If you cannot download the applications through LSM due to bandwidth limitations or for other reasons,
you may request a DVD by using features within LSM.
Licensing
ARIES uses the Flexera Software FlexNet Publisher
TM
version 11.6.3 licensing application. This increases
compatibility among all the Landmark applications and third-party applications. This version of FlexNet
Publisher also provides license management functions to your company, which you would access through
their applications.
All customers currently running ARIES 5000.0.2 or later versions can use their existing software licenses
to run ARIES 5000.1.10.0.
New customers and existing customers running older versions must obtain new licenses from Landmark,
in the form of updated license files or new bitlocks. These new licenses are compatible with releases
5000.0.0 and later. They are not directly compatible with older releases, such as 2007.1.
Customers who are upgrading from a version prior to 5000.0.1, and who use a network or local license
server must install the newer R5000 version of the Landmark License Application Manager. Customers
who are upgrading from version 5000.0.1 or later will already have the newer License Application
Manager.
This LAM installation is available from the Landmark Software Manager and is accessed from the
Discipline – Tools row on the bottom of the list on the Home tab. Click the +box at the left of the row to
display the individual downloads. Check mark the LAM 5000.0.3 Release Windows XP and Windows 7
row and select the green download arrow to the right on the row. You can read the release notes or
installation instructions prior to downloading by clicking the R or I buttons to the right on the row,

Enhancements and New Functionality
Summaries of the enhancements delivered in 5000.1.11 are provided below. Additional details are
provided in the Appendix for those enhancements below that include (more info) links and in the Online
Help.
Automatic Forecasting
The AutoCast feature has been significantly expanded to automatically perform curve fits and
create new forecasts for all the marked properties and some types of groups in your Picklist. It is
primarily intended to perform quick and easy initial forecasts for large numbers of properties, such
as for a first look at an acquisition. (more info)
Intelligent Data Point Filtering
To streamline forecasting, you can use the new IntelliFilter data point filtering routine before you
perform a curve fit. You can apply it manually or automatically to one or more of the monthly
curves on a rate-time or rate-cum graph, or to the average curve on a Trend graph, It attempts to
isolate the final production trend segment and remove outlying points. (more info)
New Range Line Options
These new options let you control the initial location of the range lines to help limit the data points
that you fit. You select these options from the dropdowns on the graph scheme Global Forecast
tab, in the Initialize section.
For the Beginning Range Line item you can select the High Major plus … option and enter any
additional months to skip in positioning this limit. This eliminates well startup points from the curve
fits.
For the End Range Line item you can select the First actual plus… option and enter any
number of months to be added in positioning this limit. This lets you easily fit on only the first 24
months of data, for example.
Expanded Trend Forecasting
Trend forecasting has been enhanced to include stretched exponential decline fitting of the
average curve points. The resulting forecast can be adjusted and stored in the expanded
ARTREND table by name and loaded and PUT for properties. The Upgrade.exe utility will add the
item CURVETYPE to this table for you. (more info)
Expanded Lookup Table
The Lookup table capacity has been significantly expanded so you can use this feature to
schedule many values for items such as product prices, price adjustment, and operating
expenses using either formulas or lists. You also can “nest” sidefiles and lookup tables, including
the use of @macros. Additionally, the editor is redesigned to be easier to use. (more info)
Econ Global Editor: Find Duplicate Keywords
This new operation finds properties that have the same Keyword entered more than once with the
same qualifier, without you having to specify what the keyword or qualifier is. For example two
BTU lines with the same qualifier can have different values on them, or there could be two OPC/T
lines with the same qualifier which would mean that their results would be added. (more info)

Econ Global Editor: Find Missing
This new operation finds properties whose economic data lines in a specified section do not
contain the specified keyword for any qualifier, for the specified qualifier for any keyword, or for
the combination of the specified keyword and qualifier. (more info)
Econ Global Editor: Re-sequence Data Lines
This new operation re-sequences the economic data lines within the specified data section. This
process sorts all the lines by qualifier for all properties in the project. Non-qualified lines will move
to the bottom. If a property is open in the editor when you perform the re-sequencing, it will be
skipped.
You do not specify any additional values within the dialog. There is no matching of items or
changing of qualifiers. Instead the data lines will be grouped by qualifier, in the same order within
each group that existed before the re-sequencing. In the production section, CUMS line will
appear with each group. The non-qualified lines will be grouped at the bottom of all your lines.
A message dialog appears after the process displaying the number of properties that were re-
sequenced.
New ACR6 Tax Depreciation
The Tax Relief Act of 2012 (passed in J anuary, 2013) extended the 50 percent first year write-off
bonus for investments placed in service during 2013. To specify this tax treatment for tangible
investments enter the new depreciation method ACR6 in the Capital Recovery component of your
input settings for the investment names to which it applies.
The ACR2 – ACR5 methods are still available to provide various first-year bonus depreciation
amounts, depending on when investments are made and under which tax regime you want to run.
If you specify ACR6 and the investment is made earlier, the depreciation treatment will roll back
to ACR5, then ACR4, and so forth.
Disable Mass Econ Data Delete
Your company can disable the Delete by Qualifier feature on the Economics Data menu for all
users. This is done by your administrator, outside of ARIES, by entering the code number 8 for
the new item ECONTROL in table TBLSETS for each table set in which the feature is to be
deactivated. Normally there is only one table set, named ARIES.
Display ShowID for Group Name
You can specify that the ShowID be displayed for groups instead of the usual group name. To do
this mark the new Display ShowID’s for Group names check box on the DBS Properties dialog.
Then enter the needed Master table ShowID items for each group.
“ Refresh” Option to Include Group Memberships
If the new check box on the Project Manager Preferences dialog is marked, the project Refresh
feature (Picklist icon or menu) will refresh both the property ShowID information displayed for all
the properties and groups and the property memberships for all the groups in the project. If it is
not marked, the Refresh will only refresh the ShowID information displayed for the properties and
groups.

Extendable Ratio Forecasts
You can specify that the ending point for LIN TIME or LOG TIME producing ratio forecasts be ex-
trapolated to later times, as needed to match an updated major phase forecast. You can either
enter the new limit units that control this in the economic editor or instruct MultiGraph to use them
automatically during a PUT. These ratio end point units are:
• MOX – Use to position the second ratio point value at a specific number of months relative to
the START date, similar to MOS. The difference is that this unit allows the ratio forecast line
to be extrapolated beyond this time point when needed. If you are using continuation lines,
enter this unit only on the final line.

• ADX – Use to position the second ratio point value at an absolute date, similar to AD. The dif-
ference is that this unit allows the ratio forecast line to be extrapolated beyond this date when
needed. If you are using continuation lines, enter this unit only on the final line.

You instruct MultiGraph to use these when storing forecasts by selecting one of them from the
graph scheme Global Forecast tab dropdown labeled PUT final TIME Ratio point at.
Commas in Graphs and Plots
You can include commas in the production rate and volume results in the MultiGraph Results Box
and the Plot Legends by marking the appropriate check boxes on the Graph and Plot Prefer-
ences dialog.
Improved Text for Legend Ratios
The Plot legend text for ratio curves is specific for Beginning Ratio, Ending Ratio, the type of
correlation used, and the slope “m” of the forecast line.
Injection Well Count
The injection well count entered on the third slot on the Miscellaneous section WELLS line has
been added to the economics “M” Array as item M51. You can now include it on your Oneline re-
ports or in the paragraph sections of your run-time economic reports. The suggested format is
F4.0, or F6.2 if you want to show fractional counts if you will be doing weighting.
This count is added into the Well Count total item, M20, which will now include the total from oil,
gas, and injection wells. Well counts scheduled using the WLS/INJ keyword are not included in
M51.
MultiGraph PUT Keeps Non-qualified Lines On Bottom
When you PUT forecasts from MultiGraph, these data lines are inserted above any non-qualified
production lines. This means that generic lines, such as an NGL/GAS forecast, will remain below
all the qualified lines so the calculation order is correct. This change was made in the update
5000.1.10.1.

Several changes were made to the database tables for ARIES 5000.1.11.0 to accommodate
enhancements, as described below.

Modeler Enhancements
Canadian Western Provinces Fiscal Models
New Modeler script functions to calculate royalties have been added for:

1. BC Oil & Gas
2. Alberta Crown Oil & Gas
3. Alberta Freehold Mineral Taxes
4. Saskatchewan Oil, Oil EOR and Gas
5. Manitoba Oil & Gas

These script functions and some related helper functions are located in the “cdn_setup” script
model inside the “PSC_Samples.mdb” database. The functions are suitable for use in calculating
royalties as part of a larger asset model, such as an unconventional resource play model, a field
or processing plant or other customized uses.

Alberta Well Case Sample

The Alberta royalty routines have been incorporated in a well case model to calculate royalties
and full cash flows for all phases and common price, cost, investment, and miscellaneous
keywords. It works on the US stream set and can be included in the same project with US or
other properties worldwide.

A key difference of this model compared to the other PSC samples that ship with Modeler, is that
this one uses the ARIES forecast gross monthly values as its input, and not the time frame data.
All the calculations are done monthly for up to 100 years.

The sample database, “monthly_script_demo.mdb” has been updated to include examples of:

1. A Model that replicates input summary data within a project. This makes it easier to build
platform allocation projects and works on any type of summary data including invest-
ments, model data, and so forth.
2. Saving and restoring summary input data between project queries. This works like ex-
port/import for summaries without need for a PROPNUM. It includes customizable logic
to decide if summary is same or new
3. Loading all economic input data for wells and summaries for an entire project. This is
useful if you need to do extensive calculations to support global economic data editing. It
illustrates using a Modeler script to retrieve @M Master table macro data




The sample database, “PSC_Samples.mdb” has been updated to include examples of:

1. A Model that automatically dumps ARIES monthly streams to Excel. It captures all ARIES
input and calculated monthly streams for 1,200 months and writes them to Excel, exclud-
ing all zero streams.

“1-12-2013” that is used to do a daily primary phase production forecast for up to 100
years and output it to Excel.

ARIES Modeler Defects Fixed since the 5000.1.10 release (June 2012)

Defect: 893450 - The “ CopyExcelSheet” function may unpredictably (and rarely) fail if
target sheet does not exist, in 5000.1.10.0 release only. Fixed in 5000.1.10.1 so that the
sheet is copied to the target if it does not already exist, and silently not copied if it the target
does.

Defect: 892936 - Running a model that uses database functions gives an error if the
Economics run log window is not closed between runs. Fixed in 5000.1.10.1.

Defect: 896876 - The Modeler function “ save_db_record” fails on Oracle or SQL Server
if one of the keys is a date. Fixed in 5000.1.10.1.

Defect: 902206 - Script Manager does not preserve model name case if loaded from log
window error go to or if it is first script loaded from Model Data tab. Fixed.

Defect: 902211 - Script Manager empties the windows clipboard when it is launched and
uses the clipboard while loading models. Fixed.

Defect: 902207 – The Script Manager " No Color" load preference does not cause fast
model loading and still colorizes comments and edits. Fixed so that when “No Color” is
selected even very large scripts will load quickly, and large paste operations are fast.
Individual line item editing will still be colorized.

Defect: 911550 - Add a DB setting to suppress the Economics modal warning that a
Model is present but the license is not activated. For environments where the same input
settings are used for cases with Models and those without, setting the MCONTROL field to 8 in
the TBLSETS db table will disable the modal warning that users without an active Modeler
license would receive if a Model was specified. Note, this means that users with Models will

NOT get the warning if they attempt to run cases with models but did not check out the
Modeler license, resulting in incorrect results.


ARIES Modeler Known Problems

1. If a scripted case reports an error, and you then fix it in Script Manager but do not close the
run log window, then subsequent executions of the same model fail to use the newly
changed script. Workaround: Close the run log window after an economics execution that
had edited script errors to force the modeler to reload scripts.

2. Text fields on the “MDATA_xxx” lines in a script file cannot contain imbedded commas,
even if the string is quoted. The commas are used as field delimiters.

3. The script function “getAriescap_bm” fails if a case has LOSS BFIT and EL for primary
product and LIFE on investment line. If these 3 conditions are true, then investments with
LIFE are not captured by the function.

Appendix – Details
Major enhancements are discussed in detail in this section.
1 – Automatic Forecasting

The AutoCast feature has been expanded to automatically perform curve fits and create new forecasts for
all the marked properties and some types of groups in your Picklist. It is primarily intended to perform
quick and easy initial forecasts for large numbers of properties, such as for a first look at an acquisition.
Please note that AutoCast is not a substitute for your forecasting judgment and is not intended for
regular mainstream production and reserves work.
The AutoCast Update feature for creating new versions of existing forecasts by sliding down them to a
new starting date remains.
The starting point for this operation is the set of active properties in your current project.
Running AutoCast
Select AutoCast from the File menu. You do not need to have a graph open. The following dialog
appears:


Specify the options as described below and select OK to start the run. A run log window will
appear to inform you of the progress. You can select the Cancel button to dismiss the dialog
without doing the AutoCast. You can stop the AutoCast run in the middle by selecting the Stop
Run button on the run log window.
Auto Forecast Options
Select the type of Auto forecast you wish to perform from these options:

• Fit and forecast – performs a decline curve fit using the specified methods, writes the fit pa-
rameters and any messages to a run log, and stores the resulting forecasts in the economics
data using the new qualifier. Results are written to the FCST table if it is present.
• Fit only – performs a decline curve fit using the specified methods and writes the fit parame-
ters and any messages to a run log. No results are written to the economic data table. Re-
sults are written to the FCST table if it is present.
• Update Start – creates new forecasts from existing forecasts by sliding along them to the
new forecast START date, then storing the updated forecast parameters in the economics
data using the new qualifier. Any existing forecasts that start after the new START date are
assumed to be for new wells and are not shifted; they are stored as is with the new qualifier.
Existing forecasts that end before the new START date are treated as abandoned, and no
new forecast lines are stored.
Graph Scheme Basis
Select the rate-time or rate-cum graph scheme that specifies the curves you want to process, the
old qualifier (if needed) and the new qualifier, and the new forecast START date. Information on
the Structure and Appearance tabs does not affect this process. You can select the Edit button
on the AutoCast dialog to open the graph scheme Global Forecast tab to modify related
parameters there.
The Curves Tab
Enter the curves for which you want to apply the process. AutoCast will follow the “property type”
logic for bringing in curves for each type of well. So you can have different sets of phase and ratio
forecasts for gas wells versus oil wells. Some properties can have data for a phase, like water,
while others do not.
When using the Update Start option, only those curves listed on the Curves tab will be updated,
even if other phase forecasts for the specified qualifier exist in the economic data.
The Global Forecast Tab
You use this tab to control the initial data range lines, the start point, and the new forecast
qualifier. For the Update Start option, you also specify the existing forecast qualifier to GET.
Initialize Section
The Set Walk point entry only matters if the Set START point value under Storing
Forecasts below is entered as “Walk point”, which references this entry. Then the entry
here will control the new Start for the forecasts.
For the options that include fitting, you can limit the historical data range used for the fit
by selecting various options for the beginning and ending range lines, for example to use
only the most recent 60 months of data.
IntelliFilter Section
For the AutoCast options that include fitting you can automatically apply the IntelliFilter
prior to the fits by marking the Automatically apply IntelliFilter checkbox in this section.

Storing Forecasts Section
Specify the Set START point, either directly as a MM/YYYY date or indirectly through
one of the other available options.
Specify the PUT Qualifier for the new forecast, either directly by name or indirectly
through the current scenario. This entry should normally not be the same as the qualifier
used for the GET qualifier in the Retrieving section below. Do not set it to PROMPT.
The settings for the PUT Phase forecasts as remaining reserves, PUT All always
updates CUMS line, and PUT All when change property are not used.
The PUT final TIME Ratio point at selection will apply to new ratio forecasts.
Retrieving Forecasts Section
For the Update Start option, specify the GET Qualifier, either directly by name or
indirectly through the current scenario. This entry should normally not be the same as the
qualifier used for the Storing Forecasts entry. Do not set it to PROMPT.
For the Fit and Forecast or the Fit Only option, this entry is used only when the major
phase fit method is specified as GET.
The setting for Automatically GET All forecasts is ignored.
Existing Forecast Data Lines
Specify here how to handle any existing forecast lines in the EC table when performing a Fit and
Forecast. Select or enter one of the following:
• Leave - leaves all existing data lines in the production section as they are. The data lines
from the AutoCast will be stored using the new PUT qualifier, overwriting the keywords that
already use this PUT qualifier with the new forecast. Any lines not overwritten from the Auto-
Cast will remain.
• Remove - removes all existing data lines in the production section that match the new PUT
qualifier name. Then data lines from the AutoCast will be stored using the new PUT qualifier.
This ensures that only the new phase and ratio forecast data lines from this AutoCast run will
exist for the qualifier. You will see a confirmation message at run time informing you that
some data lines may be removed. To continue, select Yes.
Auto Fit Methods
You specify here the fitting method to use for each of the curve types on the graph. These options
are disabled if the Update Start option is specified above. The order in which the curves are fit is:
1. The major phase, as determined from your Master table property type
2. The ratio curves, as determined by the economic keywords having a “slash”, such as
OIL/GAS
3. The other phases which are not covered indirectly by any of the ratio phases

For example, on a gas well, the gas curve is forecast first, followed by the oil/gas yield curve. The
oil curve is not forecast because that phase will be covered by the yield curve. If a water curve is
included, and there is no ratio curve having water as the numerator, the water curve would be
forecast.
If you have multiple ratio curves or other phase curves, they are processed in curve order based
on where their Y-axes appear on the graph. The order is Left 1 through Left 4, then Right 1
through Right 4.
Major Phase Curve
For the property’s major phase curve you can choose from the following curve fitting
options: Exponential, Hyperbolic, Harmonic, Cartesian, Stretched Exponential, Fixed
Hyperbolic, GET, and None.
For the fixed hyperbolic option you will provide the exponent interactively when the
AutoCast begins. If you enter a value of 1.0 the fit will change to harmonic. If you enter a
value less than .0001, the fit will change to exponential.
The None option could be specified here when you only want to forecast secondary
phases like water in the current session.
The GET option is available to simply load the major phase forecast so that other phases
or ratios can be forecast from it or so fitting can be done on a rate-cum graph.
Ratio Curves
You select here the fitting method to use for forecasting ratios. Your choices are:
• LIN – produces a linear forecast of the ratio versus either time or cumulative major
phase production, depending on the graph type.
• LOG – produces a log forecast of the ratio versus either time or cumulative major
phase production, depending on the graph type.
• None – does not forecast any ratios
Other Phase Curves
You select here the fitting method to use for phases, other than the major, that you want
to forecast directly, such as water. Your method options include exponential, hyperbolic,
harmonic, Cartesian, stretched exponential, and none.
Remember that if you have a ratio curve containing one of these “other” phases in the
numerator, that ratio will be forecast of the phase itself.
The Run Log
Information on the progress of the run is displayed in the log window. At the top it shows the type
of AutoCast you are doing, the graph scheme, and the qualifier. For each curve processed a row
displays either the fit result parameters or a message indicating why a fit could not be done. You
can print this information or save it to a file by selecting the appropriate button.

You can also use the Stop Run button on this window to stop the run before all the properties are
processed.
AutoCast Behavior
The feature options are designed for normal monthly production and ratio forecasts. One
segment for each curve will be forecast, plus an exponential tail for hyperbolic or harmonic
forecasts if specified.
The Update Start option only affects the dates for formula type production lines. It does not affect
LIST mode production, prices, costs, ownership, or investments.
In addition to individual properties AutoCast processes other entity types as described below.
• Production and Pool Groups – the production for these groups is fit and forecast or up-
dated like a property, but the production for their member properties is not. The well test
information within pool groups is not processed.
• Econ Groups – these groups are neither fit and forecast nor updated. Their member
properties are, using the GET and PUT qualifiers specified in the controlling graph
scheme. Any qualifiers from individual scenarios assigned within the Picklist to individual
members are ignored.
• Sigmas and Summary Groups – these entities are skipped.
Best Practices
1. The Fit and Forecast feature is intended for first looks at new properties such as for an ac-
quisition. It should not be used on your mainstream properties. If you do, be careful with the
qualifier you specify or backup your database first.
2. Generally you should use Fit and Forecast on all the phases and ratios at the same time, ra-
ther than doing them piecemeal.
3. Use special qualifier names for storing the new forecasts, such as TEMP1, so you can easily
find them later. This is especially important if you run the Fit and Forecast on your regular
properties.
4. Avoid using the same qualifier for GETs and PUTs for the Update Start option.
5. The two fitting options use the un-culled data points between your range lines. You can set
these in the Global Forecast tab so that representative values are more likely to be used for
fitting. Some approaches are:
a. Set the beginning range line to High Major plus x months to remove start up values
b. Set the beginning range line to Last Actual less x months to use only the most re-
cent x months of data.
c. Set IntelliFilter to be performed automatically
6. You generally should save the run log to a file after the run. This lets you easily search the
text for words in the message items, such as for “major” phase fitting problems.
7. As in all batch type operations, if you are using an Access database, consider its size before
you begin AutoCast on a large number of properties. You may want to compact it first.

2 – Intelligent Data Point Filtering

To streamline forecasting, you can use the IntelliFilter data point filtering routine before you perform a
curve fit. You can apply it to one or more of the monthly curves on a rate-time or rate-cum graph, or to the
average curve on a Trend graph, It attempts to isolate the final production trend segment and remove
outlying points.
IntelliFilter does not perform curve fitting or forecasting, but you can combine it with the AutoCast feature.

Filter applied to the OIL curve
The filter works on the current set of curve points, as limited by the range lines, as culled using one of the
menu options, and as smoothed or averaged. The history points removed by the filter are redrawn as
hollow symbols. The filtering works even if you do not have symbols specified, but you cannot see which
points are removed.
IntelliFilter Controls
You control the IntelliFilter behavior and sensitivity from the IntelliFilter section of the Global Forecast
tab in the graph scheme being used.
• The sensitivity choices are High, Medium, and Low and apply to both manual and automat-
ic use. A higher setting uses tighter tolerances and generally results in filtering out more
points.
• To automatically filter the major phase curve whenever you (or AutoCast) opens a graph or
moves between properties, mark the Automatically apply IntelliFilter check box. This op-
tion is not available for Trend graphs.
• To also automatically filter the other curves, select one of the options in the Non-major
curves dropdown: No, Individual, or Mirror.
Manual Use
To filter the currently active curve, select IntelliFilter from the Curves menu, or press Ctrl+T. To
apply it independently to another curve, activate that curve and select IntelliFilter again.

If you want to apply the same culling and filtering that currently exists on the major phase to
another curve, activate that curve and select Mirror Major from the Curves, Cull Points sub-
menu.
Automatic Use
Set the IntelliFilter controls as described above to automatically filter the curve(s) when either you
navigate between properties or when you run AutoCast.
Restore Data Points
Filtered points are not removed from your data base. You can restore them to active status on
your graph by selecting one of the Uncull options on the Curve, Cull Points menu or by
refreshing the entire graph (F5).

3 – Expanded Trend Forecasting

Trend forecasting has been enhanced to include stretched exponential decline fitting of the average
curve points. The resulting forecast can be adjusted and stored in the expanded ARTREND table by
name and loaded into properties. The Upgrade.exe utility will add the item CURVETYPE to this table for
you.
To provide you more information generally and to handle the “origin” point for SED forecasts the store
and load dialogs have changed.
Store Trend Forecast
This revised dialog now shows the type of curve being stored, such as EXP, and its “origin”
information.

The month number is the first point of the trend curve that will be stored. This is the “origin” of the
type curve that you will use for new forecasts. You control this with the Set Forecast START
entry on the Trend curve Global Forecast tab. Here the month shown is 13, meaning that this is
the point from which the curve will be stored. For SED type forecasts, you should set this to be
the first point included in the fitting.
The Qo value is the monthly production rate at the origin month displayed above. You can leave
the initial value from the fit that is shown, or enter another value to use when storing. You can
also change this later when you load and PUT this forecast for a specific property.

For SED forecasts the stretch exponent is stored in ARTREND as EXPONENT, and tau is
stored as DECLINE.
Load Trend Forecast
After you have opened a rate-time graph for the target property and selected Load Trend
Forecast, the revised dialog appears.

It contains the Trend curve origin information described above, plus two items that set where the
beginning of the trend curve will be positioned when it is displayed on the graph. This is not
necessarily where you will start the final forecast; you control that when you perform the PUT
later.
The Date is the x-axis point at which to position the beginning of the incoming trend curve. You
can enter a date, as mm/yyyy, or select one of the automatic options from the drop down:
Beginning Range Line, Ending Range Line, Last Actual, or Walk Point.
The Qi is the y-axis monthly production rate for the trend curve at the date above. This value is
initially the Qo value from the stored curve as shown above. You can leave this value, or enter a
new value to shift the curve up or down.
After you select OK the trend forecast becomes the forecast for the active curve. To save it to the
economic data you use the regular PUT … feature, adjusting the START date and the associated
initial rate if needed, and specifying a qualifier.

4 – Expanded Lookup Table
The Lookup table capacity has been significantly expanded so you can use this feature to schedule many
values for items such as product prices, price adjustment, and operating expenses using either formulas
or lists. You also can “nest” sidefiles and lookup tables, including the use of @macros.

The Template Line Section
The top section contains the economic data template lines with question marks indicating where
values produced by the lookup process will be inserted. It contains eight columns and up to 50
rows. Entries on these lines can be up to 20 characters. You may omit trailing entries.
The order of these questions marks sets the order of the answer columns needed in the Lookup
Data section below. The number of question marks entered (up to a maximum of 30).must equal
the total number of Constant, Numeric, Text, and PassThru columns defined in the Data Lines
section.
Remember that the overall data line limit in any economics data section is 100, and each of these
templates lines counts.
The Lookup Data Section
The lower section contains the lookup data. This section can now contain up to 31 columns,
allowing for example, one match column and 30 answer columns. The first row holds the
cosmetic headings, where you enter up to 20 characters of text with no spaces. In the second row
you use the drop downs to select the type of data in each column. These types define how the
lookup will work.
The third and subsequent rows contain the lookup data and the answer data. You can type or
paste this data into the cells, rows, and columns from the clipboard. These entries can contain up
to 20 characters. Each row must contain an entry for every column that has a type selected, and
there must be an answer column for each question mark in the template lines section.
The Upgrade.exe utility program provided with the release will expand your existing ARLOOKUP
table from the current eight columns to 31 columns. You can enter as many rows in the lower
section as needed.

You can delete the contents of a COLUMN by highlighting it and pressing Del, but this will not
remove the column itself. To remove the gap, copy the remaining block of columns to the right,
move to the left one column, and paste. To delete a ROW, highlight it and press Del. The
contents and the row itself will be removed.
Combining Lookups and Sidefiles
You can combine, or nest, the Lookup and Sidefile data entry features. A Sidefile is a set of
related economic data lines that is named and stored in the database, then used in multiple
economics cases by referencing its name in each case’s data.
The word SIDEFILE can be included within Lookup tables as the first entry on a template line.
The Sidefile name following it on the template line can be entered explicitly, or can be a question
mark, meaning that it will be provided from one of the answers in the lookup data items. A data
line within a Sidefile can be a LOOKUP line, complete with the needed table name and
parameters.
These Sidefiles and Lookups can both contain @macro references to retrieve values from the
Master table. The features will process these @macros multiple times to resolve them, up to two
levels deep. Thus you can have
• A Sidefile that contains @macros and a Lookup call where the lookup parameters contain
@macros
• A Lookup with @macros that points to a Sidefile, whose lines also contain @macros
You cannot nest a Sidefile within the same Sidefile or nest a Lookup table within the same
Lookup table.
The order of processing these is:
1. All the case data line Sidefiles are read and their data lines brought in
2. Any @macros on these data lines are resolved
3. All the case data line Lookup table calls are read and their resulting data lines are
brought in
4. Any @macros on these data lines are resolved
5. Any Sidefiles that have come from the Lookup data in #3 are read and their data lines
brought in
6. Any @macros on these data lines are resolved
7. Any Lookup table calls that have come from the Sidefile data in #5 are read and their re-
sulting data lines brought in
8. Any @macros on these data lines are resolved

5 – Econ Global Editor: Find Duplicate Keywords
This new operation finds properties that have the same Keyword entered more than once with the same
qualifier, without you having to specify what the keyword or qualifier is. For example two BTU lines with
the same qualifier could have different values on them, or there could be two OPC/T lines with the same
qualifier which would mean that their results would be added.

Only the Qualifier row is active, and the IF comparison is always set to EQ. The Qualifier can be left blank
to search all qualifiers. To include unqualified data lines in the search, mark the check box at the upper
right of the dialog.
The START lines, TEXT lines, lines beginning with an asterisk, and continuation (“) lines are not
searched. For the keywords of LOOKUP, SIDEFILE, FILE, and LOAD the data line value following it is
included with the keyword in the matching.
Select OK to begin the search. A message will appear summarizing the findings and asking if you want to
write the list of properties to a file. Select Yes to write the .csv log file, which will contain rows similar to
the following:
Propnum, ShowID “ Duplicate keyword BTU for qualifier XYZ”
You can then easily create a project containing these properties for correcting your data.

6 – Econ Global Editor: Find Missing
This new operation finds properties whose economic data lines in a specified section do not contain the
specified keyword for any qualifier, for the specified qualifier for any keyword, or for the combination of
the specified keyword and qualifier.
For example, you can find properties that do not contain a Miscellaneous section BTU line, or that do not
contain the qualifier XYZ, or that do not contain a BTU line qualified with XYZ. You can also find
properties that do not contain an Investment section name of EQUIP, or to find properties that do not
have an OWNER1 qualifier in the Ownership section.
Only the Keyword and Qualifier rows are active, and the IF comparisons are always set to EQ. You enter
the keyword for which to search, or the qualifier for which to search, or both.
Select OK to begin the search. A message will appear summarizing the findings and asking if you want to
write the list of properties to a file. Select Yes to write the .csv log file, which will contain the list of
Propnum and ShowIDs for the properties that are missing the specified item. You can then easily create a
project containing these properties for correcting your data.
