‡ If you encounter any problems, tell the examiner how you overcame them:
± ³Upon playing the drum pattern back at 0:42 (bar 21) I noticed that the kick drum was out of time with the rest of the track, so I quantised the kick notes to 1/4 in the drum editor´.

‡ Suggest other alternatives to your chosen method and justify your choice:
± ³I could have used an overdub for the drum kit, however I decided to record the kit with at the same time as the other instruments as I wanted to re-create the overall sound of a live performance, as if Jet were performing on stage´.

The Logbook«a model answer?
In Thank You by Dido, the track uses a high-pitched woodwind instrument in the middle 8 section at 1:40. After listening to the track I decided this was a panpipe, so I experimented with a panpipe sound from the Halion One VST instrument in Cubase. When I inputted the panpipe track there was too much breath noise, which was masking the melody. I tried to get rid of the breath noise by cutting the EQ of some of the lower frequencies and boosting the higher frequencies of the panpipes, however this did not reduce the ¶breath sound· being made. I then changed the VST instrument sound to a recorder because this was more effective at maintaining the clarity of the melody line than the panpipes because there was no breath noise. I then added reverb with a reflectivity setting of 80ms, panned the track to L38 and pushed it backwards in the mix. I did this because it re-created the distant and atmospheric sound heard on the original track.
