It is a tool to identify the Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats of an organization.
Specifically, SWOT is a basic straightforward model that assesses what an organization can
and cannot do as well as its potential opportunities and threats. The method of SWOT analysis
is to take the information from an environmental analysis and separate it into internal (strengths
and weakness) and external issues (opportunities and threats). Once this completed, SWOT
analysis determines what may assist the organization in accomplishing its objectives, and what
obstacles must be overcome or minimized to achieve desired results.

Benefit of SWOT analysis

 The main advantages of conducting a SWOT analysis are that it has little or no cost
needed. Anyone who understands the business can perform a SWOT analysis.

 We can also use SWOT analysis when we don’t have much time to address a complex
situation.

 Another benefit of SWOT analysis is, we will concentrate on the most important factors
affecting our business.

 By using SWOT analysis we can;

Understand our business better
Address weakness
Capitalize on opportunities
Take advantage of our strength
Develop business goals and strategies for achieve
Cost saving

Shortcoming of SWOT Analysis

 The analysis does not provide a means to identify the significance of one item versus
another within a list or different items in the separate lists.

 This type of analysis requires amount of time and energy when used in a large
organization.

 The analysis considers data that is available at a particular moment and may become
outdated quickly.

 People can generate list blindness, but the list alone will not help to realize the
organizations goals. They need to move beyond the analysis list and discuss what
activities would help to achieve their objectives.
