Brief Description
A case of polycystic ovarian disease/ syndrom treated with
ayurvedic medicines for 6 months, showing complete cure
from the disease at Dr. Murthy’s Medical Center,
Bangalore.
Medical Condition
Medical condition - Polycystic ovarian disease/syndrome
Brief description - PCOS is due to a combination of
genetic and environmental factors. Risk factors include
obesity, not enough physical exercise, and a family history
of someone with the condition.
Sign & Symptoms
Signs & Symptoms - Irregular or no menstrual periods,
heavy periods, excess body and facial hair, acne, pelvic
pain, trouble getting pregnant, and patches of thick, darker,
velvety skin. Associated conditions include type 2 diabetes,
obesity, obstructive sleep apnea, heart disease, mood
disorders, and endometrial cancer.
Cause - PCOS is a heterogeneous disorder of uncertain
cause, but PCOS has some aspects of a metabolic
disorder, since its symptoms are partly reversible. Even
though considered as a gynecological problem, PCOS
consists of 28 clinical symptoms. USG Scan revealed
Multiple cysts of 3-5 mm in both ovaries.
Treatment
Treatment - The primary treatments for PCOS
include: lifestyle changes, medications and surgery.
Goals of treatment may be considered under four
categories:
Lowering of insulin resistance levels
Restoration of fertility
Treatment of hirsutism or acne
Restoration of regular menstruation, and prevention of
endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial cancer
Case Primer
30 year old female with PCOS complaint since 5 years
and Associated infertility
Have tried IVF and have failed twice; PCOS is not
resolving even after treatment for 5 years
Treatment given - Panchakarma: Virechana was planned
as initial treatment followed by medications and herbs in
the form of concoctions and pills for 6 months.
Result
Results - It was confirmed through USG scan that both the
ovaries did not have any cysts and No abnormalities were
detected on the whole.
