How to backup the files, if the notebook does not start?
Most of the customers have crucial data on the computer hard drive. Some times, notebook or computer may go bad and it may not boot to the desktop or it may not power on at all. In this case, you can backup your personal data from your computer hard drive using simple technique. Note: We can backup the data only if the data is not corrupted on the hard drive. Required devices: 1. Hard drive enclosure along with the cable.

2. A good computer.( notebook or desktop)

Backup process:

Step 1: First you need to buy a hard drive enclosure.
You can buy a hard drive enclosure at any computer stores or you can buy online also.

Note: This kit works for both 2.5" 44-Pin IDE Notebook Hard Drives & 2.5" Serial ATA Notebook hard drives.

Step 2: Remove the hard drive from the notebook.
It is quite easy to remove the hard drive from your notebook.

Removing hard drive on DV9000 to DV9999
1. First you need to remove the battery.
Before you begin any removal or installation procedures: Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in hibernation, turn computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. Disconnect the power cord. 4. Remove the battery by following these steps: a. Turn the computer upside down with the front panel toward you. b. Slide and hold the battery release latch1 1 to the left. (The front edge of the battery disengages from the computer.) c. Lift the front edge of the battery 2 and swing it back. d. Remove the battery.

Removing Hard Drive
1 Prepare the computer for disassembly 2 Loosen the two captive Phillips PM2.0×5.0 screws 1 that secure each hard drive cover to the computer. 3 Lift the right side of the cover 2 and swing it to the left. 4 Remove the hard drive cover. 5 Lift the frame 2 straight up to remove if from the hard drive.

1 Use the mylar tab 1 to lift the hard drive 2 until it disconnects from the computer. 2 Remove the hard drive from the hard drive bay. 3 Remove the four Phillips PM3.0×3.0 screws 1 that secure the hard drive bracket to the hard drive. 4 Lift the bracket 2 straight up to remove it from the hard drive.

Removing hard drive on DV6000 to DV6999
First remove the AC adapter and Battery from your notebook. You can follow the above instructions provided for DV9000 series notebook for removing the battery.

Removing Hard Drive
1 Prepare the computer for disassembly (refer to Section 5.3).

2 Loosen the two Phillips PM2.0×5.0 screws 1 that secure the hard drive cover to the computer. 3 Lift the right side of the cover 2 and swing it to the left. 4 Remove the hard drive cover. The hard drive cover is included in the Plastics Kit, spare part number 431428-001.
Removing the Hard Drive Cover

1 Use the mylar tab 1 to lift the hard drive 2 until it disconnects from the computer. 2 Remove the hard drive from the hard drive bay. 3 Remove the six Phillips PM3.0×3.0 screws 1 that secure the hard drive frame to the hard drive. 4 Lift the frame 2 straight up to remove if from the hard drive. Removing hard drive on DV2000 to DV2999
First remove the AC adapter and Battery from your notebook. You can follow the above instructions provided for DV9000 series notebook for removing the battery.
1 Loosen the two Phillips PM2.0×5.0 screws 1 that secure the hard drive cover to the computer. 2 Lift the left side of the cover 2 and swing it to the right. 3 Remove the hard drive cover.

1 Remove the two black Phillips PM2.5×5.0 screws 1 that secure the hard drive to the computer. 2 Use the mylar tab 2 to lift the hard drive 3 until it disconnects from the computer. 3 Remove the hard drive from the hard drive bay. 4 Remove the four Phillips PM3.0×3.0 screws 1 that secure the hard drive frame to the hard 5 Lift the frame 2 straight up to remove if from the hard drive.

Step 3: Now, insert the notebook’s hard drive in Hard drive enclosure.

Step 4: Now, connect this enclosure, to any known good computer with the help of USB cable.( USB cable is shipped along with the Enclosure).

Step 5: Now, Open my computer ( if you have XP on the good computer) or Open Computer ( If you have Vista on good computer). Your notebook hard drive will be listed on it. Then copy all the files which you need from the hard drive and paste on the good computer.
