https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/bbvpn What is P2 and what is P3? What is the difference between them? The term P2 refers to the equipment that was initially purchased by BSNL for broadband communication. This equipment is capable of delivering only broadband to the customer and nothing more. The term P3 refers to the multiplay equipment. P3 equipment is advanced in comparision with P2. P3 equipment is also referred as multiplay equipment. Which means, that the P3 equipment can provide Broadband, IP TV, VoD, Audio Video talk back, Interactive services between TVs, many other value added services like MMS can be proviced. For a normal broadband user, it really does not matter whether it is P2 or P3 as the bandwidth extended is only 2 Mbps and 8 Mbps in few plans. Some value added service and IP TV are possible with multiplay only and hence the name multiplay. For simple broadband usage, it is all the same on both the equipment. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ BSNL has two systems for providing broadband services 1. Multiplay(P3): in this system BSNL provide one portal id to their users to access their account. If you email is Provided by BSNL is suppose "[email protected]" domain, then you will have account in P3. 2. P2 System: in this system your user id will work to accees your account from web.If your email Provided by BSNL is suppose "[email protected]" then you will have account in P2. Change Password in Multiplay: open http://www.data.bsnl.in , enter your portal user ID & password., go to "My services", click on "change password", then click on "Reset",then "search".Now enter your "old password", "New password", "Confirm Password". Click "OK". Change Password in P2 system: open http://www.dataone.in, click on "Check your Account Usage", , Now enter your Broadband user ID & Password provided by BSNL. After logging in click on change password option to change password. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How to change password and check Usage in BSNL BB in both i.e. P2.2 and P3 There are two different system one is P2.2 that is old one and other one is P3 i.e Multiply system. check account usage is totally different in both system go to http://10.240.43.216/webLogin.jsp type ur user name and password login, and click service records.Check usage for particular Month u Know we r having two username for P2.2 One for connecting to internet and other for checking usage and password is same for MULTIPLY system

3. P3---for multiply services like bb,ip tv,ip phone ,movie on demand etc ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~ By: kapoorcmc I will keep editing this arrticle as I learn more! I changed my BSNL plan last month, which led to a plethora of problems and thus made me research BSNL Broadband network architecture! This article is not to complain about BSNLs customer service which is roguish and very bad; but when visited by engineers and linesmen is adequate. This article is to write down of what i have learnt from multiple visits of BSNL support staff to rectify my problems. BSNL Broadband runs on a prepaid and postpaid plans; I am on a postaid plan for the last 5 years! Unlimited postpaid plans are good value for money for heavy users. I subscribe to 1100 plan which gives me 10 GB in a month at 2 Mbps rate and then falls to 256 Kbps till it reverts back at the start of next month! BSNL Broadband internet services are run through two servers called P2 and P3 (with IP 117.xx.xx.xx). It is important to know that as different portals are required to check data usage or account management on your on! For P2 server please use the following to log on to my mail and to look at account usage: Email service: http://www.netone.in/ Account usage: http://www.netone.in/ or http://10.241.32.195/webLogin.jsp For P3 Email Service: http://dataone.in/ Account usage: http://data.bsnl.in/wps/portal For P3 server customers, it may so happen that your login for accessing ppoe conectivity may be different from the login required to check web usage. This login called is called portal ID and can be obtained by calling the exchange, which in itself can be a major hurdle as the numbers are not easily available! To pay your landline phone bill, please use the following site: http://portal.bsnl.in/portal/aspxfiles/login.aspx How to configure your modem? There are many modems available and thus difficult to write up about them. Each ADSL wireless modem can be used in bridge or PPOE mode. In the bridged mode, the conncetion is done manually through a dialer on your pc or laptop. In the ppoe mode, the configuration is fed in the modem and the connection is always available. The following site will give your a lot of information about setup of your modem: http://www.calcutta.bsnl.co.in/dataoneinstall/menu.html For Firefox users, there is a wonderful add on called DATAFOX to check the account usage on your desktop. DataFox is a bandwidth usage monitor for BSNL’s DataOne and MTNL’s TriBand broadband services. DataFox is a cross platform extension written for Firefox and Google Chrome; if you use Internet Explorer or any other browser, DataFox will not work for you. Tough shit. Version 1.9.2 is compatible with Firefox versions 1.5 – 4 and supports all BSNL sites (including data.bsnl.in) and both MTNL Bombay/Delhi sites (including 59.185.101.2). To download, please log on to http://thegoan.com/datafox/ DNS settings:

These servers are the backbone of any internet network and are essential for net surfing. BSNL by default has its own servers, but they are not very efficient. At times, the adsl connection is ok, but the pages wont load; that is because the DNS server is down. One has an option to put in the ip address of other DNS servers available for use. This can be done on the computer or on the ADSL modem. Here is a list of good DNS servers: The most basic task of DNS is to translate hostnames such as theos.in to IP address such as 74.86.49.131. In very simple terms, it can be compared to a phone book. DNS also has other important use such as email routing. This is my list of better, fast free public dns servers . One is able to improve the browsing speed with following DNS servers: Free Public DNS Servers: Service provider: Google 8.8.8.88.8.4.4 Service provider: ScrubIt Public dns server address: 67.138.54.100207.225.209.66 Service provider: dnsadvantage Dnsadvantage free dns server list: 156.154.70.1156.154.71.1 Service provider: OpenDNS OpenDNS free dns server list: 208.67.222.222208.67.220.220 Service provider: vnsc-pri.sys.gtei.net Public Name server IP address: 4.2.2.14.2.2.24.2.2.34.2.2.44.2.2.54.2.2.6. DNS advantage and opendns servers are pretty reliable. One can mix and match. This adds reliability to BSNL Broadbanc connectivity. Please log on to : http://www.opendns.com/ to understand this better. Through open DNS, one can also block sites for your home wireless network after registering with opendns! Customer Care : 1957 will never work. Please log on to the following sites and note the relevantt phone numbers, as when the broadband is not working these numbers wont be accessible! http://www.bsnl.co.in/network/cust_care_center.htm http://portal.bsnl.in/bsnlcca/login.aspx ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FE means Fast Ethernet having bandwidth 100 Mbps ,SFP 850 nm or 1310 nm GE means gigabit Ethernet hving bandwidth 1000Mbps ,SFP 1550 nm Read more: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_difference_between_FE_and_GE_Port#ixzz2GUPiBQYX
