THIS IS FOR THE RECORDER’S OFFICE OF MONTEREY COUNTY IN CALIFORNIA. CHECK FOR SIMILAR IN YOUR COUNTY. DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS
Each document presented for recording must include or comply with the following general requirements. 1. The Property must be located in Monterey County. (CC 1169) 2. The document must be authorized or required by law to be recorded. (GC 27201) 3. The document must be submitted with the proper fees and taxes. (GC 6301, 27201, 27261) 4. The document must be in compliance with state and local laws. 5. The document should name the person requesting the recording. (GC 27361.6) 6. The document should state the Name and Address, to whom the document should be returned, fill in “Recording Requested By and Mail To”. (GC 27361.6) 7. The document must be legible enough to produce a readable photographic record. (GC 27201, 27361.6, 27361.7) 8. Signatures must be original unless the document is a certified copy issued by the appropriate custodian of the public record. (GC 27201b, GC 282288, Evidence Code 1530) 9. The document must be properly acknowledged, unless exempt. California requires an (all-purpose acknowledgement). GC 27201, 27289, 27285, 27288, CC 1189)The notary seal must be legible for a microfilm reproduction. (GC 8207) 11. The top right of the first page shall reserve 2 1/2" by 4 1/2" for recording information. (GC 2761.6)

Here is the link to GC 27201 http://codes.lp.findlaw.com/cacode/GOV/1/3/d2/3/6/1/s27201 (a)The recorder shall, upon payment of proper fees and taxes, accept for recordation any instrument, paper, or notice that is authorized or required by statute or court order to be recorded, if the instrument, paper, or notice contains sufficient information to be indexed as provided by statute, meets recording requirements of state statutes and local ordinances, and is photographically reproducible. The county recorder shall not refuse to record any instrument, paper, or notice that is authorized or required by statute or court order to be recorded on the basis of its lack of legal sufficiency. "Photographically reproducible," for purposes of this division, means all instruments, papers, or notices that comply with standards as recommended by the American National Standards Institute or the Association for Information and Image Management for recording of records.

(b)(1)Each instrument, paper, or notice shall contain an original signature or signatures, except as otherwise provided by law, or be a certified copy of the original. (2)A facsimile signature shall be accepted on a lien recorded by a governmental agency when that facsimile signature has been officially adopted by that agency. The lien shall have noted on its face a statement to that effect. A copy of the agency's resolution or action adopting the signature for facsimile transmission purposes or a certified copy of the agency's adopted signature shall be provided to the county recorder when the signature is officially adopted by the agency, or at the beginning of each calendar year.
