Caring for your MacBook
Your new MacBook is a valuable learning resource and needs to be looked after carefully. There are a few things you need to know about how to make the most of your technology learning experience and ensuring your laptop will stay in pristine condition. Below, are a number of spaces to put together a set of reminders to put in your study space to remind yourself of how to care for your MacBook. To assist you with some of these questions, we have put together a list of online resources at: http://tsclearning.catholic.edu.au/groups/caringforyourmacbook/ You should also search for other sites that might help. How should you clean your MacBook? To clean the screen, you should use a damp cloth with water and gently wipe the screen. You should not spray water directly on the screen. Never use any cleaning products except for water to clean the laptop. What should you do when moving around with your laptop? (Include information from the 1:1 laptop booklet handed out last week) When moving around with your laptop, it should always be in its carry case and you should zip it up. Looking after your battery is important if you want your laptop to last all day in class. List the strategies you could use to save battery use at school. To save battery, you could turn down the brightness. You could also turn off the Bluetooth and AirPort so your laptop is not constantly using these programmes, wasting battery life. Use the Energy Save control panel to conserve energy when you laptop is not plugged in, charging. Another essential thing that will extend the life of your battery is calibration. Write a procedure for calibrating your MacBook battery. 1. Charge your Mac’s battery. Make sure it is full. 2. Leave your Mac on for two hours at least. 3. Wait until your Mac is out of battery. 4. Leave it for five hours. 5. Recharge your Mac until it is full again. Here are some questions from the Information Booklet that you should have read outlining the use of laptops at school and general knowledge. A copy of the booklet can be found on the wiki site with the other resources.

What software can you add to your computer? You can add copies of your textbook to the laptop but no other software unless you receive permission from the teachers at school. The laptop is mine, so I can do what I want to decorate it. False

Who has permission to use your laptop? Only I have permission to use the laptop except for my parents if they are helping with homework. Identify why you should not eat or drink around your laptop. Food and drink could possibly spill on the laptop and damage the keyboard and the monitor. Liquids might damage the function of the laptop. Who is responsible for any damage to the laptop. I am responsible for any damage done to the computer. It is my responsibility to look after the laptop and make sure it stays safe at all times.
