Cover Story: Channel 5 Saturday 4th – Friday 10th February New Series NCIS The Spider and the Fly (Series 8: 1/24)
The hit US drama based on the work of the agency dedicated to crimes related to the US Navy returns. Paloma Reynosa is trying to fulfil her promise to get revenge for the death of her father by setting her sights on Gibbs’s dad. Picking up from where series seven left off (see episode ‘Rule Fifty-One’), Gibbs’s dad Jackson is visited in his hardware store by Paloma, head of the Mexican Reynosa drug cartel. She is seeking to make good her threat to get revenge for the death of her father. After she turns the shop’s sign to ‘closed’, Jackson tells her he has been expecting her and fires a warning shot. She then draws her own gun and backs out of the store. Once outside she gives an order to her men and they pepper the shop with bullets. When the dust settles they enter the building but find no sign of Jackson. Six months later, Gibbs Sr is bemoaning his lot. He feels that he is a virtual captive in his son’s house with special agents patrolling the grounds to keep him safe. The hunt for Paloma remains at a dead end. DiNozzo is going over a recording of the gun battle with Alejandro (Paloma’s brother) and his men which was the last known sighting of Franks. A helicopter crash then draws the attention of DiNozzo, Jimmy, Ducky and Gibbs. Going through the wreckage it is discovered that the two fatalities were shot after the aircraft made an emergency landing. The footage from the onboard camera reveals one of the passengers was Paloma Reynosa. In the autopsy room it is discovered that one of the victims was a Reynosa gang member, Esteban Lopez. Ducky, through analysis of the dead man’s stomach and various insect bites, narrows down where the gang and Paloma have been hiding out. Making a reappearance from his own hideaway (a Mexican convent in which he drank wine and played cards with the nuns) is Franks who survived the shootout. He turns up at Gibbs’ place to unofficially join the security detail. Franks wants to stop playing cat and mouse with the Reynosas and tackle them head on. Alejandro then turns up at NCIS HQ with the security his ambassadorial position grants him. He seems willing to propose a possible compromise. His main agenda, though, is to discretely plant a bug in Vance’s office. On his way out Alejandro spits a thinly-veiled threat towards Abby which raises the hackles of Vance and Gibbs. Gibbs then gets a call from 3
‘NCIS’

Paloma which is traced to outside his house. Racing there, the team find one agent dead, but Franks and Jackson emerge fit and well from the basement perplexed by the commotion. In Vance’s bugged office the location of a new safe house is discussed before Alejandro is brought back in to discuss reviving his deal. At that meeting Vance rushes out when he is passed a note which reads ‘Paloma Reynosa killed’. Alejandro cannot help but look at it, then storms out and heads to the new safe house (the address of which he got from the bug). There he opens fire but when his magazine runs dry he is surrounded by a team led by Gibbs. But the place was not empty, the bug had also revealed the address of the safe house to Alejandro’s sister and Paloma lies fatally wounded among the carnage. Gibbs’ plan appears to have won this battle in the war against drugs. But is everything as it seems?

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Confession (Series 10: 2/22)
The hard-hitting American drama series about the work of the NYPD’s sex-crimes unit continues. Benson and the team look into the disturbing case of a teenager who hands himself in saying he has abused his young stepbrother. As the new assistant district attorney Kim Greylek (Michaela McManus, ‘The Vampire Diaries’, ‘One Tree Hill’) is making her generally unwanted presence felt, a teenager named Eric Byers walks into HQ and says that he wants to report a sexual assault. Speaking in an agitated manner to Benson, he tells her that he is the perpetrator and that his desire for his younger stepbrother, Cory, is reaching dangerous levels. He tells Olivia that his stepdad dislikes him and that he just wants the images in his head to go away. Cragen is not sure how to proceed as they have never had a paedophile turn himself in before. Olivia visits the Kelley household and talks to Eric’s mother, Dana, who says that she knows of no problem between her two boys. However, she does mention an issue at school when Eric was caught ‘playing doctors’ with a girl. See page 18 for the complete synopsis.

Factual and Features: Channel 5 Last in Series Cowboy Builders Camberley Series 6: (6/6)
Melinda Messenger and Dominic Littlewood come to the rescue of another victim of dodgy building work as the series about the perils of hiring rogue tradesmen concludes. Tonight, Melinda and Dom catch up with a woman they visited in 2010 whose search for a new lifestyle had been hampered by a builder who took her for a ride. For the last episode in the series, Dom and Melinda are going back to visit a mother and daughter they helped out two years ago and check if the cowboy responsible is still up to his old tricks. After losing her mother to cancer, single mum Pam had decided she wanted a complete change of lifestyle for herself and daughter Georgina. She took voluntary redundancy after 23 years of working in an office and decided to retrain as a massage therapist working with the chronically ill. To make her plan financially viable in the long term, she had decided to use the money she received from her redundancy to convert the loft of her two-bed semi, giving her an extra bedroom so she could take on a lodger. Pam’s dream turned into a nightmare when the builder she hired vanished after four months having pocketed £20,000. He left her with a wrecked loft room that was uninhabitable, exposed to the elements and in danger of collapse. While Melinda and her team pulled out all the stops to give Pam and Georgina back a safe, secure home, Dom went on the hunt for the builder who had left them in this mess. He soon discovered a string of other families with their dreams in tatters – but no sign of the cowboy in question, who seemed to have vanished. After a lot of dead ends, Dom eventually managed to corner him on a train platform, where he promised he would give up the building game for good. One year on, Melinda is back to see how life has moved on for Pam and Georgina. Meanwhile Dom finds out that this elusive cowboy seems to have changed his name – but not his ways…

Benidorm ER Series 1: (5/6)
Clinica Benidorm continues to check up, patch up and stitch up a continuous flow of unfortunate Brits who have fallen ill or injured themselves. With exclusive access to the medics and patients, cameras follow the action at one of the busiest hospitals on the Costa Blanca. This week’s caseload includes an elderly man suffering from extreme back pain and a holidaymaker with a severe case of pneumonia. A favourite destination for millions of tourists and expatriate Brits young and old, Benidorm is one of the Costa Blanca’s busiest resorts. They come for the sun, sea and sangria, but end up having to swap their sun bed for a hospital bed. Clinica Benidorm sees so many British patients that a team of translators is on hand every day! The medical teams include top orthopaedic surgeon Dr Antonio Blasco, who gets around town on a Harley-Davidson, Dr Welter, a tall, talented German married to oncologist Carmen Ruiz, charismatic Dutch heart consultant Dr Braat, and Celine, Dr Braat’s young assistant who is also chief organiser of staff social evenings. In this episode, we meet 61-year-old Joseph from Stockton, Cleveland, who has been rushed in with crippling back pain. The doctors discover Joseph has a hernia on his spine which is pressing on a nerve and causing him agony. Joseph’s subsequent treatment takes days, during which time he and his wife Christine receive the devastating news that their insurance company will not pay the full cost of the treatment. Margaret from Merseyside also arrives at the hospital in distress. She has been admitted after injuring her hand in an accident with a patio door. We follow holidaymaker John, who is in Benidorm with a gang of mates from Pontefract for a stag do. John has been rushed to intensive care with severe breathing problems. His life is hanging in the balance with an extremely severe case of pneumonia. His wife Agnes urgently flies out and holds a vigil as John lies in a coma for days. Will the prayers she makes in the chapel be answered? The Clinica Benidorm is not just for holidaymakers who need urgent treatment. British ex-pat Emma runs a local hairdressing salon. She has had hip surgery at the tender age of 34. Another Brit who has moved out to Spain is Alan, who credits the hospital for saving his life following earlier cancer treatment. He has now admitted himself as he is concerned that he may have a blood clot.

Derby couple Dennis and Geoff make a visit to the clinic where they learn Geoff needs a new hip, although he is just given pain killers for now. Dennis is rather taken with the Spanish medical teams. “In England you expect every nurse to be either obese or anorexic. In Spain they are absolutely perfect,” he says. We also catch up with husband and wife team Dr Carmen and Martin Ruiz, who treat their young son Martin’s fractured arm. They are not the only couple who work together in the hospital – Maureen the British receptionist spills the beans on the number of romantic liaisons amongst Clinica Benidorm’s staff. Maureen, who has worked at the clinic for 23 years, keeps fit and supple by doing regular pilates – though she pronounce it ‘pilots’. We catch her in the middle of a work out.

Factual and Features: Channel 5 Last in Series Winter Road Rescue (2/2)
Shot over three months, this series follows the dedicated, unsung heroes who work 24/7 to make sure Britain does not grind to a halt when winter weather hits. In Scotland, the Highland Council’s snowplough teams battle blizzards, ice, flooding and landslides to keep the roads open, whilst across the UK, RAC patrols fight snow, gale-force winds and freezing conditions to reach motorists stranded in the cold. After an unusually mild autumn, winter arrives with a vengeance as a series of huge storms batters the UK. After Hurricane Friedhelm hits Scotland in early December, the wild, wet and windy weather continues into January, causing difficulties for rescue workers across the country. In Scotland, the chaotic weather sees the small town of Lochcarron effectively cut off from the outside world when a huge landslide brings tonnes of rock and trees crashing down onto a vital road. With residents facing a huge 150mile drive around the mountains to reach the next town 20 miles away, the Highland Council’s rescue teams spring into action. With the nearest school on the other side of the landslide and businesses suffering, the Council has to get people moving again. They come up with a novel replacement for the road by opening up a disused harbour and transporting people by boat. In England, an RAC recovery-truck driver is called to one of the most dangerous winter rescues of all: a breakdown on the hard shoulder. When he gets there he finds the driver wandering around on the side of the motorway, oblivious to the danger. In January, severe storms and winter weather causes damage across the UK. Recovery workers battle around the clock to rescue motorists stranded by the storms, clearing fallen trees and making the roads safe. In Scotland, January turns the roads into treacherous, icy hazards, and covers the mountains with yet more snow. In Applecross, snowplough drivers Chris and Donald are struggling to keep the main road in and out of the village open. Facing deep drifts, they turn to the biggest gun in the Highland Council’s winter armoury: the vast snowblower. With deep snow on the mountain, they work from early morning until late at night, battling the winter elements to save the village’s only lifeline to the outside world.

World’s Toughest Trucker (Series 1: 6/8)
The Truckers have landed in Mongolia this week as the contest continues. The remaining six truckers confront the most sparsely populated country on earth, where horses outnumber people. The drivers have to master navigation and negotiate treacherous roads on a journey that will test all of the skills they have learnt during their decades on the road. In Mongolia the ‘roads’ are nothing more than dirt tracks improvised by local truckers. Without real paths and with a distinct lack of signs the correct route may appear to be a dead end. In this environment confidence, communication and teamwork are key. The truckers must master their GPS and interpret their written directions accurately, with the fastest team taking ten points. Mongolian truckers choose to drive Russian Zil 131 machines, even though they are old gas-guzzlers. However, there is a reason these communist-era trucks are so popular. They may be prone to breaking down, but they can be repaired easily on the road and are perfect for the demanding terrain. Zil Trucks appear bulletproof, but they need love! Furthermore, for the first and only time the truckers are tasked with carrying two loads. On day one they are required to pack up two Mongolian tents along with furniture and transport them 80 miles south. There is a 15minute penalty for each item broken. The next morning, the trucks must carry a cargo of hay. The following information is embargoed until after transmission: In this week’s first challenge the Blue team, Derek and Rodney, adopt a cautious approach and are careful not to break anything, while the Green and Red teams prioritise speed over care. Within minutes of leaving, Mike and Jason become lost, which causes them to take bumpier routes and damage the truck. By lunchtime, their radiator overheats, the bonnet is dislodged and their rear differential is leaking oil, leaving them in last place.

On day two, Stuart and Rookie are up early to fix their problems and the day begins with Green and Blue ahead. But in the afternoon Rodney argues with the employee at Ulziit Toll Bridge and Derek hits one too many ditches. It becomes too much for Rodney, who walks off yet again. This enables the Red team, despite their problems, to pass their rivals. At the end of day two, Green are clear leaders, Red second and Blue in last place. Knowing that they have to make up time to catch the leaders, Mike and Jason go all out by selecting the most direct route. It leads them up steep hills, destroying their gearbox in the process. As Green and Blue head for the finish line, the Red team is left stranded. Their truck finally surrenders and they do not deliver their load, disqualifying them from the final three. With Derek and Stuart already qualified, it becomes a shoot-out between Rookie and Rodney. The lead built up by the Green team is enough to see them home in first place, almost guaranteeing Rookie a spot in the final.

Meanwhile, the Green and Blue teams make good progress. But Derek is still considering scuppering his team's progress in order to eliminate his partner. Striding out in the lead, Rookie and Stuart agree to get along in order to win. All is going well for the Greens until the truck overheats…

CSI: New York Keep It Real (Series 8: 2/22)
The drama series about New York’s finest crime scene investigators continues. Tonight, Mac returns to the team and a young man is found dead surrounded by fake $20 bills. Having spent some time away from the force (see last week’s episode, ‘Indelible’) Mac is now back on the team. They have a case to solve when the body of a young man is found in his apartment surrounded by $20 notes. The victim, Michael Schaefer, shared the apartment with a student called Josh, who has apparently fled. They had both recently attended a punk gig where Michael’s new girlfriend, Miranda, was singing. Under questioning, Miranda tells Mac that she was asleep in Michael’s room when she heard two gunshots. She got up to find him dead on the floor, and surrounded by money. In the lab Miranda’s clothes reveal tears consistent with those that would be expected if the suspect had smashed a window, and a broken pane is found near the fire escape at Michael’s place. Miranda says she had to break in when she and Michael returned from the concert after he had lost his keys. Miranda says she met Michael when he and Josh came into the music shop where she works. She does not think that he had any money issues, particularly as he had recently bought her a guitar. While investigating Josh, the team discover that the student has quite a lot of money in his account. In the apartment they also find some ointment for skin that has recently been tattooed. A trip to the local tattoo parlour reveals that Josh had a very expensive dolphin design etched on his back. It is revealed that he mentioned to the artist that his flatmate’s hot new girlfriend had been bothering him, so the search for Josh steps up a gear. Interviewing the record store owner, Randy (Jake Busey, ‘CSI Miami’, ‘The Mentalist’), reveals very little to Jo and Don apart from the fact that he likes to paint his nails black.

Lindsay then works out that a strange smudge on the victim’s body contains a mixture of everyday chemicals that when combined could be used to erase the ink from dollar bills. Further investigations reveal that the $20 bills are actually printed on $5 notes, and on Josh’s computer a template for a $20 bill is found. Has he been printing his own cash? Some of the fake notes have already been spotted in circulation, with one transaction standing out from the rest – the guitar Michael bought for Miranda was paid for with fake notes. A trace of nail polish is then found on the victim that could be a match to Randy the music shop owner. Then it is flagged up that some more of the counterfeit bills have just been spent to buy a gun. The team race to the record store to find a standoff in progress. Has Josh worked out who killed his best friend? And will there be any more fatalities before the case is closed?

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Confession (Series 10: 2/22)
The hard-hitting American drama series about the work of the NYPD’s sex-crimes unit continues. Benson and the team look into the disturbing case of a teenager who hands himself in saying he has abused his young stepbrother. They are led to a website that appears to be sympathetic to paedophiles. At the hospital, while Dana and her husband Sean argue, Cory is examined and shows no signs of being physically abused. Under further questioning, Eric reveals that he found people on the internet who understood him, who told him that he ‘was born this way’ and that he should ‘look and not touch’. This advice seems to have emanated from a website called Pediaphax run by a man called Jake Berlin (Tom Noonan, ‘Heat’, ‘Last Action Hero’). Pediaphax is a website that specialises in displaying photos of children taken surreptitiously. This website cannot be closed down because all the children are fully clothed and because of the right of free speech.

Berlin is questioned and he describes himself as a ‘paedosexual’. He is attracted to children but controls his urges. Olivia gets a message from Dana saying that Cory has admitted to being molested by his brother, and that Eric has disappeared. Back at HQ, while looking at Berlin’s latest uploaded pictures Elliot sees something that makes him blow a fuse. It takes the rest of the team a little longer to see that pictures of Elliot’s daughter have been posted. Fin and Olivia arrive at Berlin’s apartment to find Stabler trying to delete the pictures from Berlin’s computer, with the man himself unconscious on the floor. This leads to Stabler being put on enforced leave. Fin and Olivia’s next task is an all-night stakeout of Dana’s house to see if she knows more about Eric’s location than she has let on. This eventually pays dividends when she appears to load a food parcel into her car and heads off. Her destination is a rundown building and as the detectives follow her in, her scream alerts them to Eric’s dead body. Who killed Eric? Did his stepfather, who admitted beating the boy, lose his temper completely? Or did Eric know something that cost him his life?

Body of Proof Dead Man Walking (Series 1: 5/9)
The surgeon-turned-medical examiner Dr Megan Hunt (Dana Delany, ‘Desperate Housewives’) tackles another case as the hit American crime drama set in Philadelphia continues. In this episode, Megan investigates the case of a man who collapsed and died hours after having surgery, while Ethan’s pulse starts racing when he gets close to a beautiful patient’s twin sister. Dr Megan Hunt was a brilliant neurosurgeon until a terrible car accident led to her making a mistake in the operating theatre. She resigned and now works as a medical examiner, using her skills and instincts to uncover the secrets contained in the corpses of people who have died in mysterious circumstances. With her partner Peter Dunlop (Nicholas Bishop, ‘Home and Away’), an injured excop, she takes on cases that have defeated other investigators. Meanwhile, in her personal life, she is trying to reconnect with her daughter, Lacey. A man is found in some bushes after what is initially believed to be a mugging-gone-wrong. His bag is discovered a couple of blocks away and Megan’s keen nose recognises the remnants of some sauce as being specific to one chain of fastfood restaurants. Some leg work leads the team to a suspect who works at one of the restaurants. He says he saw the body and instinctively grabbed the bag, but that it was an opportunistic theft and he is not the killer. This theory is confirmed back at the lab when Megan opens up the cadaver to reveal an abdomen saturated with blood. This indicates internal bleeding that a mugging would be unlikely to cause. The victim, an accountant called Ted Harbinson, had surgery that morning and Megan visits the hospital where the procedure was carried out. It is a hospital she used to practice at, run by an ex-colleague, Gwen Baldwin (Carolyn McCormick, ‘Law & Order’, ‘Judging Amy’), with whom she shares a chequered past.

Megan demands video footage of the procedure to see whether the surgeon Dr Chandler (Marc Blucas, ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’) was guilty of malpractice. The video recording is missing, but he swears he carried out the operation to the letter. However, a nurse informs Megan that Chandler is an accident waiting to happen, with a reputation for being brash and slapdash. Further investigation leads Megan to conclude that Chandler had followed the correct procedure, but that a staple gun used to close the incisions had been tampered with, which would have caused the internal bleeding. However, Ted’s operation was not the only one carried out that day. The race is on to find the patient who was next on Chandler’s roster. Megan finds the patient just in time but has to take matters in to her own hands to keep him alive until the ambulance arrives. Megan then discovers something that links him to the death of Gwen’s son four years earlier… Ethan, meanwhile, after bemoaning the death of a beautiful young woman who was perfectly healthy apart from one minor genetic defect, gets in a sweat when her next of kin, her equally beautiful twin sister (Christina Hendricks, ‘Mad Men’, ‘Drive’) turns up on the scene – and he is more than happy to test whether she is at risk too.

Acquisitions: Channel 5 New Series NCIS The Spider and the Fly (Series 8: 1/24)
Gibbs then gets a call from Paloma which is traced to outside his house.

Law & Order: Criminal Intent In Treatment (Series 8: 4/16)
The detectives of New York City’s Major Case Squad wage war on crime as the eighth series of the crime drama continues. In this instalment, the killing of an investment company boss leads NIchols and Wheeler to conduct an investigation into a psychoanalyst’s group therapy sessions. As the CEO of a hedge fund prepares to give a speech at a private gathering of the great and the good, rumours spread around the room that the company is going to be investigated by the powers that be, which leads many investors to contact their brokers to sell, sell, sell! It also leads to the discovery, in the men’s toilet, of Chief Finance Officer Frank Hatcher’s body, killed by a stab wound to the chest. Wheeler tells Ross that half of the attendees at the banquet had both the motive and means to kill Hatcher, a point that Nichols makes to Archie Beuliss, founder of the fund. Beuliss points the detectives towards an accountant, Richard Kramer, who made unsubstantiated accusations against the deceased, and was fired for doing so. Under questioning Kramer suggests that other companies always knew in advance what stocks the Beuliss fund was going to buy, and he suspected Hatcher of being the leak. Attempting to talk to Beuliss again, Nichols and Wheeler discover he has checked himself into a rehab clinic for a psychiatric condition which requires a complete break from the outside world. Nichols and Wheeler talk to Dr Ernst, Beuliss’s psychiatrist, who seems more interested in analysing Nichols. While Nichols does not give much away to the doctor, he later tells his partner about his estranged father, who was also a psychiatrist and regularly analysed him over the breakfast table.

Nichols then makes his presence felt when he makes a bold entrance into a group therapy session run by Dr Ernst that features Beuliss and one of his major investors, a billionaire called Ron Hemmings. Zach then launches into a speech on betrayal which provokes a sharp response from Hemmings. Wheeler smells a clue when she detects from Hemmings the faint scent of Mrs Beuliss’s expensive perfume. Next, Hemmings is found dead in a bath, apparently having comitted suicide, with traces of several prescription and non-prescription drugs in his body. Inviting himself to another group therapy session, Nichols gets everyone to reveal where they invest their money, and who advised them to put it there. Did Ernst have more concern for his patients’ financial health than their mental health?

Milkshake! Channel 5

Jelly Jamm (Series 1: 17-21/52)
Cute, kooky aliens Bello, Goomo, Rita, Ongo and Mina are having more out-of-this-world fun and games on the musical planet of Jammbo, as this colourful CGI-animated series continues on Channel 5. Chaos reigns supreme this week when Rita gets a taste of power, Goomo goes missing in a dark wood, Bello fails an unusual lie detector test, Mina needs help with her latest invention and Bello is put in charge of the music factory. Jammbo is the funkiest planet in the universe. All music originates from here, and rhythm pulsates through every single person and thing to be found here: the King and Queen, the dodos, the kids, even the wind. Jammbo is a magical place for kids to grow up, and though they occasionally do things that result in chaos or discord, the music in the hearts and souls soon restores harmony among the young friends. Bello is the driving force of the group. He reads a lot of comic books, his favourite being his own creation, ‘Jammboman’. Bello has insatiable curiosity, boundless energy and big ideas. Goomo is a happy lad with a big heart. He wants everyone else to be happy too, so whenever there’s a problem he tries to find a solution that will make people feel good. His best friend is Bello. Rita is mercurial. One minute she’s the model of a cute, little well-mannered girl playing with her favourite doll, Princess, the next she’s using it to hammer a nail into the floor. Her appetite for experience takes her from 0 to 60 in a millisecond, zooming past the caution signs. Ongo is the cool one. He communicates with a combination of sounds and mime. He’s happy and unflappable, always ready to belt out any sound or rhythm beat box-style and, boy, can he dance! Mina is the scientist of the group. She loves inventing things and experimenting to see what will happen next. She tries to be cool, but her attempts at spontaneity always end comically. ‘Queen Rita’ rules the roost on Monday. When the real Queen goes on vacation, the King jumps at Rita’s offer to take on her duties if she’s made Queen of Jammbo! The kids love having one of their own in charge, but soon the fun and games are replaced by games that make only their tiny queen happy. How can they make her realise that power is going to her head?

The friends think a monster is at large on Tuesday in ‘Scary Story’. It’s fine while they are sitting around a campfire telling scary stories. But when Goomo tells the scariest monster story of all, then goes missing for a long time after leaving to get a snack, the others are jittery even before they enter the dark woods to look for him. What’s making that long mysterious shadow and strange sounds? Could a monster be stalking them? A tall tale gets Bello into trouble on Wednesday in ‘Flying Lies’. The story is so unbelievable that Mina gets angry and makes him take an unusual lie-detector test: the Candy of Truth – a sweet that makes you float every time you lie. Bello accepts the challenge and a web of lies takes him on a dangerously high journey. On Thursday, Mina is building the most amazing swing in the history of Jammbo. But if ‘Mina's Swing’ is going to please the King, the young scientist is going to need some help to complete it. She may be using advanced technology, but she soon learns that it can never be take the place of teamwork and friendship. ‘Apprentice Bello’ is put in charge of running the Music Factory on Friday. It’s such an important job that the Queen leaves him the instruction manual. Trust Bello to ignore it! The whole operation immediately descends into chaos. The dodos try hard to set things right, but without an informed boss disaster looms. Bello learns that preparation is the key to performing any job correctly.

Chuck Chuck Versus the Seduction (Series 2: 2/22)
Chuck, Sarah and Casey are still on the trail of the Cipher, as the comedy action series continues on 5*. This week, they seek advice from Roan Montgomery, a special agent with a legendary appetite for women and gin. Casey tells Chuck that the Cipher they thought was the real one (the artificial brain for the new Intersect computer) exploded, taking CIA director Graham with it. So Chuck remains the only Intersect and the real Cipher is still out there. The CIA wants him to find it. Chuck refuses to resume his life as a spy, but a little persuasion from Sarah soon changes his mind. The best lead that General Beckman has on the Cipher is a beautiful but ruthless former KGB agent named Sasha Banacheck (Melinda Clarke, ‘Eli Stone’, ‘The O. C.’). She has avoided the grasp of the authorities, but one legendary agent, Roan Montgomery (John Larrouquette, ‘Boston Legal’, ‘CSI: NY’), got very close to charming his way to apprehending her. Soon Chuck, Sarah and Casey are on their way to Palm Springs for a lesson in the art of seduction from the master, Roan Montgomery. Roan’s first thought is that Sasha would never fall for a guy like Chuck. He gets Chuck to demonstrate his seduction skills on Sarah, which get no-one’s heart thumping. But a spy’s got to do what a spy’s got to do, so the team wires Chuck with an earpiece and a concealed microphone and pushes him off in the direction of Sasha’s hotel. Sarah and Roan will be monitoring the situation from a van across the street and feeding him suitably seductive lines. Chuck goes into battle with a lastminute warning from Roan: Sasha kills all of her lovers after she has finished with them. In the hotel bar, Chuck’s opening chat-up lines are met with frosty retorts from Sasha, but with Sarah’s encouragement and some Dutch courage he begins to make an impression. However, just as things seem to be going in the right direction, Chuck is distracted by a conversation in the monitoring van. Roan is questioning Sarah about what she really

feels about Chuck. Then Roan drops his gin, which short-circuits the communications equipment and leaves Chuck flying solo. Inside Chuck’s brain, the Intersect flashes: Sasha is wearing the Cipher round her neck. He grabs it and makes a leap of faith from the balcony. But Sasha and her stooges grab Sarah and Casey. Now Chuck has to come up with a plan to get them back. A drunken Roan is no help. “If you show up, there will be three dead agents instead of just two,” he slurs. Luckily, Roan sobers up and by next morning has come up with a plan to bring in Sasha and get Sarah and Casey back. The location for the switch is Buy More. There, Sasha and her flunkies refuse to give up without a fight and Chuck has to make yet another leap of faith…

Combining the beautiful people and emotional intrigue of a teen drama with the twists and turns of a nail-biting thriller, this addictive US series continues. A complete stranger contacted her on the laptop. Sutton Mercer is sleek, sassy and sophisticated – and her identical twin! But while Emma went to live with a foster family in a downmarket neighbourhood in Nevada, Sutton was adopted by wealthy parents and lives in a big house in Phoenix. Sutton discovered Emma’s existence while trying to trace her biological parents. Sutton has a possible lead to their mother, but before she can follow it up, events overtake Emma. Some money goes missing at home and she is blamed. Forced to flee, Emma looks to Sutton in Phoenix for help. But Sutton has her own agenda. She is going to LA to try to find the truth about their birth. She does not want to tell anyone though and wants Emma to pretend to be her for a few days. It should be a breeze, Emma thinks. Neither has revealed they know of the other’s existence and they look identical. With nothing to lose, Emma agrees to play along and discovers there are undoubted advantages to being Sutton. She has an amazing wardrobe and car, cool friends Mads and Char, and loving parents, but there are problems too, like her bratty sister Laurel and her arch-enemy Nisha. This week, as Emma’s stay in Sutton’s life drags on longer than expected, the answers to some mysteries are revealed but new questions develop. As Emma gets to know Sutton’s circle better, she catches a glimpse of the troubles hiding behind the group’s glossy exterior. Can Emma help Char deal with her controlling mother? And why does Mads’s secretive father seem to have so much hostility towards Sutton? With their gorgeous

good looks and fabulous wardrobes these girls may seem flawless, but Emma quickly learns that reality is less attractive when things go badly wrong at a father-daughter dance. There is trouble even after Emma brushes up on her dance skills to keep up the charade. Meanwhile, Emma’s relationship with smouldering bad boy Ethan continues to develop. Will he end up being more than just her chief confidant in Phoenix? The secret of Sutton’s whereabouts is also partially revealed as she turns up alive and well, but she fails to mention her new ally in her investigation, Mads’s big brother, Thayer. Sutton tells Emma she needs a bit more time to continue searching for their mother. Can Emma keep up her impersonation for a few more days? ‘The Lying Game’ is inspired by the book of the same name by Sara Shepard, the No 1 New York Times bestselling author of ‘Pretty Little Liars’. Alexandra Chando, who plays the twins, is known in the States as Maddie Coleman in the daytime soap ‘As the World Turns’.

NCIS Chimera (Series 5: 6/19)
The hit US drama based on the work of the navy’s dedicated federal agency continues. This week, the mysterious death of a sailor on board an abandoned ship brings the agents into contact with a deadly virus and a top-secret navy research mission. When reports come in that a sailor on board the USNS Chimera has died in suspicious circumstances, Gibbs and the team are called in to investigate by Navy Commander William Skinner. Enigmatically, he refuses to divulge anything about the ship’s topsecret mission. Upon arrival at the Chimera, the agents find nobody around. “This ship was abandoned,” says Gibbs. “In a hurry, it would seem,” adds Ducky. After an initial search, the agents find the body of the dead man, marine biologist LCDR Satoshi Takada, in the galley freezer. While McGee sets up a satellite link to Abby at HQ, Ducky begins his examination of the body in the ship’s research laboratory. It is not long before he comes up with a shocking result. The dead man, Ducky theorises, was killed by viral haemorrhagic fever (VHF) – to which they have all now been exposed. “If my diagnosis is correct,” he says, gravely, “we’ll all be dead by morning.” Back at HQ, NCIS director Jenny Shepard clashes with Skinner, demanding to know the nature of the Chimera’s research. “The lives of my agents are being threatened and I need to know what is threatening them,” she spits. However, the only information Skinner offers is that his men were involved in “deep-sea marine life exploration”. On board the ship, the agents find a locked door marked with a biohazard symbol. As McGee sets about trying to crack the door code, the other agents are spooked by a number of noises emanating from elsewhere on the vessel. Just then, the lights go out and everyone is plunged into darkness. Guided by torchlight, Ziva leads the way back to the electrical room. As she opens the door, she is set upon by a hysterical man. Once he is restrained, the man explains that he is the Chimera’s cook and has been hiding ever since the rest of the crew abandoned ship to escape the virus. The captain, he says, made him stay on board because he had been in close contact with Takada

before he died. However, he claims to know nothing of the mysterious research taking place, adding that the biohazard area was strictly off-limits to him. “There’s someone else on this ship,” he adds. Ducky makes a breakthrough when he discovers that the virus was actually injected into Takada, so he concludes that there is no threat of airborne infection. “Takada was murdered,” he says. “To scare everyone off this ship,” adds Gibbs. Did someone kill Takada to get rid of the rest of the crew? Armed with this new information, Shepard speaks to Skinner once more and finally convinces him to level with her. The crew of the Chimera had been developing a new, highly dangerous biological weapon. With most of the crew missing and a killer on board the research ship, Skinner realises that the mission has been sabotaged and agrees to send a support vessel to help the agents. Back on board the Chimera, the agents track down their killer – communications officer Lt Sean Ferris. “The Navy’s on its way – you’re going to the brig,” says Tony as he secures Ferris in handcuffs. But Ferris seems unfazed by the approach of the Navy. “You’ll be dead before they arrive,” he warns. The agents assume he is referring to the outbreak which they know to be a hoax – but Shepard has other news. Making its way to the Chimera, way ahead of the Navy ship, is a heavily armed assault craft. It seems that Ferris is not working alone. Could the US Navy be about to lose a biological weapon to an unknown enemy?

Sons of Anarchy Una Venta (Series 4: 4/14)
Jax, Clay and the boys deliver the first shipment of weapons to the Galindo cartel, as the US crime drama about biker gangs continues this week on 5USA. SAMCRO are concerned when it appears that SAMTAZ are now also drug-running, while in Charming Gemma forms an unlikely alliance. When Jax tells Tara that he and the boys are heading to Tucson for a bike show, she questions whether that is their only reason for the trip. Jax responds by wondering if she really wants to know what is going on. The real purpose of the trip is to deliver the first cache of weapons to the Galindo Cartel. Clay is feeling his age and before setting out on the road has to inject himself with cortisone to relieve the pain in his hand. Having loaded the truck, Miles takes the wheel. Clay, Jax, Bobby and Chibs act as his outriders. To ensure their safe passage they have arranged to get some extra protection from SAMTAZ, the Sons of Anarchy chapter based in Tucson. They meet up at a truck stop, where SAMTAZ leader Armando says that at the bike show no police or members of other gangs should cause any problems. However, SAMTAZ has trouble of its own to deal with. At the truck stop, two SAMTAZ members are taking a truck driver to task over his inability to pay for some goods. Tig breaks things up and Bobby picks up a bag of drugs that it would appear SAMTAZ are now distributing. Clay has difficulty believing they have moved into the drug business. At SAMTAZ’s clubhouse the next day, the tense discussion continues about whether the Sons should be in the drug-running game, when Jax spies something amiss on the wall. The picture of Reggie, a former member, is upside down – meaning he either quit or was asked to leave. Reggie’s sponsor was Little Paul, a SAMTAZ stalwart who was killed several months ago. Jax wants to find out why Reggie left.

SAMCRO and SAMTAZ roll into the bike show. They are expecting to meet Romero Parada, but he has just sent one lieutenant who tells them his boss is not present because he does not like to be followed, indicating a van parked nearby. SAMCRO and SAMTAZ spring into action, taking the van on a high-speed game of cat and mouse, which ends with a huge bang, clearing the way for the deal to go ahead. However, the agents in the van survive and they are not keeping an eye on SAMTAZ, but working for Potter and trying to find out what SAMCRO are up to. Back in Charming, Potter is updated on SAMCRO’s new line of business, while Gemma forms an unlikely alliance with Rita after meeting her in her flower shop. Meanwhile, in another flower shop in Tucson, Jax catches up with Reggie, its owner, and discovers a great deal about the murky goings-on that have seen SAMTAZ move in to drugs. The deal is finally done with Romeo and the Galindo cartel. After handing over the weapons and taking the cocaine for the return trip, there is an uneasy feeling that SAMCRO should learn that anything to do with drugs is a mistake. Will the boys continue with the arrangement or back out of it?
