Did you know that Charleston founded the first golf course in America? Harleston Green was founded in 1786. 1786. The game of golf has grown and thrived in Charleston since then, and is now home to over 35 championship golf golf courses. The designers of these courses are a virtual who´s who of the golf world and include such greats as Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio, Rees Jones, Pete Dye, Gary Player, and Robert Trent Jones, Sr, just to name a few. I have compiled a list of area golf courses with their contact information listed by city/area. Courses marked by a * have received a nationally recognized designation and/or award.
