EXCURSIONS
EXPLORE.

COMBINE

FLY,

DRIVE

We make it possible for you to meet the proud, nomadic tribe of the Ovahimba. This extended
version of our "Skeleton Coast" flight will take you to Opuwo, the capital of the Kaokoland. An
excursion to the Himba villages adds exotic flavour to any Namibian holiday.

&

The northern coastline fascinates with its desolation, ample bird life, remains of
shipwrecks and one of the largest seal colonies in the world. Return via the rugged
Damaraland, the massive Brandberg and the picturesque Spitzkoppe to Swakopmund.

This variation to the flight as described above includes a stop-over at a guest lodge in the
Damaraland with a game drive. After lunch you will continue your flight back to
Swakopmund.<

If time is short and you do not want to miss out on the opportunity to see the area from
the air, we recommend the shortened version of the "Sossusvlei " route.
Fly via the moon landscape, the Kuiseb river bed and the fabulous dune formations to
Conception
Bay.
Only flying gives you the opportunity to see the shipwrecks, seal
colonies
and
flamingos
in
the
diamond
restricted
area.

This most popular flight takes you over the Namib desert, the dry
Kuiseb river bed on to the magnificent dune formations, as far as
Sossusvlei. Return along the "Forbidden Coast" where you will
discover shipwrecks, seal colonies and flocks of flamingos.

We can land at Sesriem where we drive in a 4x4 vehicle to Sossusvlei. Admire, climb and photograph the scenery
and enjoy a fresh picnic in the shade of a camelthorn tree. When you are ready, we return to the landing strip
and continue with the flight described above.

Set in the red dunes of the dramatic Kalahari desert, enjoy the most emotional cultural
experience in Namibia. Become a part of the total harmony of this unique Bushman
community
and
understand
their
pride
in
their
tradition.
After lunch you can compare the Kalahari dunes with those of the Sossusvlei and discover
the "Forbidden Coast".

Should you wish to explore the southern parts of Namibia, then embark on a journey to
the wonders of this beautiful area. Fly via Sossusvlei with its magnficent dune formations
to the Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon in the world. You will stop in Lüderitz
to visit the ghost town of Kolmanskop, where diamond diggers used to live in splendour.
Then explore the town itself and after a light meal, fly along Namibia's "Forbidden Coast"
back to Swakopmund.

This shortened version of the Ultimate South route excludes the flight over the canyon,
but includes a fly-by past the stunning rock arch "Bogenfels". Your activities in Lüderitz
and the return flight remain as above.

The question often asked is: What do I do once I have completed my Commercial Pilot Licence? Who is
going to employ me? This is never an easy answer. Flying is like any other working activity in the sense
that the better qualified you are the better your chances of finding work.
The instructor's rating will give you the edge over a counterpart who does not have the rating. It will
provide you with one more avenue that you can use to gain hours and experience. It also counts points
once you go for that big interview and even pays dividends once you are in the airlines or wherever your
final flying destination might be.
The instructor's rating consists of two basic elements like all other flying. Theory and examinations on the
one hand, and practical flying on the other hand.

You will have to complete 20 hours of ground preparation in which you cover all the ground lectures. You
will prepare and present these lessons until they are of a satisfactory standard. Once you have completed
this phase you will complete the SACAA exams.
The second phase of the training will be to complete 20 hours of flight training and the flight test.
Once you have completed the above you will be a qualified Gr III flight instructor.

It has been seen time and time again that one of the best ways to progress to the airlines is through
instruction. It is a wonderful way of progressively building hours and the airlines appreciate this form of
very disciplined flying. It will also increase the opportunities for employment. It will be our greatest
pleaure to offer you a position, if available, at Blue Chip Aviation once you have completed your Instructor
Rating.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Most students in South Africa choose to complete the Commercial Pilot licence without
the Flight Instructor Rating, this however tends to create a problem when looking for a
good flying position after qualifying. The reason for this is of course due to the lack of
flying experience. Below find some of the different flying positions available in the
aviation industry and the recommended flying experience required as a captain or copilot for an employment position.
Flying Experience Required for Employment

Flight Instructor Grade III – From 220 hours.
Flight Instructor Grade II – From 450 hours.
Bush Pilot (Single Engine) Captain + 350 hours / Co-Pilot +250 hours
Bush Pilot (Multi Engine) Captain +750 hours / Co-Pilot +400 hours
Aerial Photography (Single Engine) Captain +450 hours / Co-Pilot +200 hours
Aerial Photography (Multi Engine) Captain +650 hours / Co-Pilot +450 hours
Aerial Survey (Single Engine) Captain +450 hours / Co-Pilot +200 hours
Aerial Survey (Multi Engine) Captain +650 hours / Co-Pilot +450 hours
Charter Pilot (Single Engine) Captain +650 hours / Co-Pilot +450 hours
Charter Pilot (Multi Engine) Captain +1000 hours / Co-Pilot +500 hours

Turbine Charter Pilot (Single Engine) Captain +1000 hours / Co-Pilot +700
hours
Turbine Charter Pilot (Multi Engine) Captain +1500 hours / Co-Pilot +850 hours
Airline Pilot - Initial Entry Starting as a Co-Pilot +1500 hours with frozen ATPL
subjects (meaning that the Airline Transport Pilots Examinations has already
been passed.

As you can see, most positions (with the
exception of the Flight Instructors rating)
requires a considerable amount of Flying
experience before being employed, and
therefore creates a catch 22 situation, where
“you cannot get a job because you don't have
the experience and you cannot get the
experience because you don’t have a job”.
Our Trained to Instruct package offered will
help you overcome this problem by
employing you as a full-time Grade III Flying
Instructor for a period of 12 months (terms &
conditions apply).
During this 12-month period the Instructor
will be allowed to teach other students and
therefore gain the flying experience necessary
to move on into the Aviation and Airline
Industry.
On average, full-time Instructors fly
approximately 50 to 80 hours and lecture
approximately 20 to 40 hours per month (And
of course the instructor is rewarded for every
hour lectured and flown), which will mean
that the Instructor accumulates ± 700 hours
during the first year of employment. Plus the
200 hours that was acquired during
qualification totaling ± 900 hours of flying
experience.
This Trained to Instruct Commercial Pilots
Course is specifically tailored and designed
by our Chief Flying Instructor, Jannie
Loutzis, who in turn has more than 18 years
of flying experience, 11 years of Flight
Training experience and in excess of 5500

Flying hours.
Our Training facility is open 7 days a week
and training is available from sunrise till late.

Our Pilots
Loutzavia only employ the best qualified flight crews. They are dedicated experienced
pilots and enjoy their work and are the people making sure that you our customers enjoy
the flight.
The picture on the right is of our Chief
Pilot Henry Miles at the King Air.
Between Jannie & Henry they take the
reponsibility for the professionalism of
the crews.
The profficiency and recurrency
training that our crews are exposed to
is only aimed at making them more
capable of completing their flights in
safety. It includes:

Regular recurrent IF training
Regular CRM recurrency courses
Regular Dangerous Goods Recurrency training
Regular Proficiency checks on emergency procedures in the aircraft.

If you think you have what it takes to be one of our pilots please send you CV by e-mail
