Previous Speaker Information
Christopher Halkyard
Chief Supply Chain Officer Gilt Groupe

Your Supply Chain: How Much is Enough and Who Should Do It?
In this presentation I will cover some initial background about GILT.com and how our company has utilized our supply chain as a strategic asset versus a “Necessary evil cost center.” There are many schools of thought to determine your distribution center needs, and many are incorrect. I will explain some of the key indicators to help evaluate what that sweet spot is. “To 3PL or not 3PL”….that is the question! Third party’s who offer expertise in certain areas can be great partners, but one stop shopping is rare, and often very expensive. I will cover where these may make sense in organizations and where they don’t. Once that is determined 3PL selection can be challenging…I will go through some factors to help the decision making process.

Chris Halkyard serves as the Chief Supply Chain Officer and General Manager of Distribution Services for Gilt. In this role, he is responsible for global supply chain management, including international and domestic logistics, product distribution, international shipping, packaging supplies, as well as third-party distribution for select Gilt brand partners. Chris also steers vendor compliance, inventory control, and the purchasing program for the company. Chris joined Gilt in April 2010 as Vice President of Operations, bringing over 20 years of distribution, logistics, and supply chain experience. In this role, Chris streamlined the company's global supply chain strategy, and quickly rose to his current position.

Sanjay Ramaswamy
VP, Global Planning & Business Systems Johnson & Johnson

Supply Chain Segmentation - Finding the Balance Between Scale & Responsiveness
Most large, global companies make and sell a wide range of products in a diverse set of markets. ! While most managers intuitively recognize that a ‘one size fits all’ approach probably won’t work, companies still struggle to find the right balance of where to drive for economies of scale, while still being responsive and agile. Supply Chain segmentation as an answer is easy in theory but hard to implement in practice. ! In this discussion we explore a case study in segmentation, and illustrate the constraints and practical choices that often have to be ! made by global companies to find the right balance of scale and responsiveness.

Sanjay is currently the Vice President of Global Planning & Business Systems at Johnson & Johnson. Previously he served as the CIO for the Global Supply Chain Group at J&J. He comes to Johnson & Johnson in 2011 from McKinsey & Company where he was a Partner in the New Jersey Office. In addition to his experience at J&J, Sanjay has consulted with leading pharmaceutical, medical device, consumer and retail companies on a broad range of topics related to strategy and operational transformations. He holds a Ph.D in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the Pennsylvania State University. Sanjay and his family currently reside in Chappaqua, New York.!

Ed Poloway
MD, Global Supply Chain Ocean Spray Cranberries

Leveraging Distribution Network Design
Ocean Spray Cranberries gained a 20 percent reduction in greenhouse gases on top of a 40 percent savings in transportation costs by making smart process changes to one of its primary transportation and distribution routes. The project measured the sustainability improvements after Ocean Spray opened a new distribution center and partnered with a competitor to improve transportation efficiency. With only a modest investment of time and money, Ocean Spray realized both financial and greenhouse gas emissions savings. The first process change was to open a new distribution center in Florida that moved product supply closer to demand. The next step was to identify a more cost and environmentally efficient way to transport finished products to the new distribution center. After learning of a competing juice company’s New Jersey to Florida rail backhaul opportunity, they worked with logistics partner to begin the coordination of shipments.

Ed Poloway joined Ocean Spray in 1994 and currently leads all activities within the Supply Chain. Previous roles included Managing Director, Global Operations which held the responsibility for leading the Ocean Spray International Organization in global manufacturing and logistics outside of the U.S. He has held numerous roles in planning, manufacturing, and commercialization for Ocean Spray. Prior to Ocean Spray, Poloway spent five years with Solo Cup Company, as the Chicago, IL Plant Superintendent and served eight years as an Intelligence Officer for the Strategic Air Command in the United States Air Force. Dennis Daniel
Principal Oliver Wright

The S&OP Process Your President Wants
We’ve all heard that the business leadership ‘owns’ the S&OP process and should be actively involved in the meetings, but often they are nowhere to be found. This session explores why your leaders do not participate in your S&OP meetings and how to reinvigorate your process so that they join and lead the meetings. We will start with an explanation of how the executives see the world and what keeps them up at night. We will continue with how an S&OP process must have to engage your leaders. We’ll conclude with examples of successful designs that you can use to revitalize your S&OP process and make it a key contributor to your company’s success.

Dennis, a principle with Oliver Wright Americas, has led the development of several planning and control classes for hundreds of employees and led the deployment of LEAN and Six Sigma programs in a number of manufacturing sites. Over his 34 years in industry, he has extensive experience in A&D - responsible for manufacturing deployment of several major defense programs; semiconductor capital equipment - electro-optics, robotics, and metal fabrication; and high-purity chemicals. Supply Chain Excellence
How can you achieve Excellence if you cannot describe it?! Many companies strive to get better with formal programs like Lean, six sigma, World Class Manufacturing, etc. ! Supply Chain Excellence within Griffith Laboratories has been developed as a way to describe the key objectives and related processes with qualifiers like policies, accountabilities, measurement, management review, and continuous improvement. ! The Supply Chain assessment developed within Griffith Laboratories is the description of an operational reference model to identify, measure, and prioritize supply chain activities within a Food manufacturing environment. ! It could have application outside food with some adaptation. ! It has brought our operational teams around the world together with a common language, objectives, and focus. !

John McCarville is currently Senior Vice President, Global Supply Chain and Information Technology for Griffith Laboratories Worldwide, a food developer and processor headquartered in Alsip, Illinois with operations in over 20 separate countries. ! Finding The Balance - Managing AsiaBased Supply Chains vs Resourcing to North America
Global supply chain leaders are being challenged to continue to drive cost reduction while improving customer fill-rates. Supply chain leaders are also looking over a longer time horizon and see that the opportunity lower overall cost and improve service can be realized by resourcing certain products in the US, Mexico and Caribbean. Mr. Russell will discuss his experience in this area.

Mr. Warren Russell serves as the Senior Vice President of Global Operations and Supply Chain for Simplicity Creative Group. He is responsible for identifying and executing opportunities to optimize SCG’s Supply Chain.
