CODE OF ETHICS FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHERS It is embodied in R.A. No. 7836 or the Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994. These are the principles of morality that must be conducted by the teachers in his/her everyday performance of his/her duty. It pertains to the duties of a teacher to his/her profession, to the students, to his fellow teachers, to the administration of the school and to the community. The fulfillment of being a professional teacher must have professional standards and ethical norms. Former Senator Raul S. Roco in a sponsorship speech regarding the Higher Education Modernization Act (R.A. 8292) indoctrinate that “Institutional academic freedom refers to the right, power and prerogative of the institution and its governing board to decide what to teach, who to teach and how to teach. While the academic freedom of faculty members to research, to inquire and to pursue the truth, to the extent that they can prove that it is true to the best lights that they are capable of”. This code is designed to uphold the professionalism and redefine the Academic Freedom by regulating it by the State through this law. The teachers provide as training, uphold our skills and educate us within the bounds of the Academic Freedom, Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers and the 1987 Philippine Constitution. The Code has several articles that pertain to the responsibility of a teacher to a specific sector of education and society. Articles on The Teacher and the State, The Teacher and the Community, A Teacher and the Profession, The Teachers and the Profession, The Teacher and Higher Authorities in the Profession, School Officials, Teachers, and Other Personnel, The Teachers and Learners, The Teachers and Parents, The Teacher and Business, The Teacher as a Person and Disciplinary Actions. The various articles only define that each educational institution must have competent, qualified and quality teachers that will help develop our country through its human resources (the students). It only highlights that a teacher has a responsibility over the life of a student to prepare him/her to the real world after his/her education. A teacher is a vital person in the improvement of the society. This Code aid the teachers on how they will conduct their profession with commitment as a leader in the education sector and the community.
