Dartmouth College
For the class of 2013, a record 18,130 students applied for approximately 1,100 places, and 12.6% of applicants were admitted. 95% of admitted students were ranked in the top 10% of their high school graduating class. 29.4% of admitted students were valedictorians and 10.9% were salutatorians. The mean SAT scores of admitted students by section were 729 for verbal, 733 for math, and 732 for writing

University of Pennsylvania
For the Class of 2012 entering in fall 2008, the university received 22,935 applications and admitted 16.95 percent of the applicants, 99% of whom were in the top 10% of their high school classes. Sixty-three percent of the admitted applicants matriculated.[ In 2007, Penn's acceptance rate was 15.9%, with 96% of incoming freshmen ranked in the top 10% of their high school classes. In the last 5 years, Penn has received around 21,000 applications for each freshman class, has admitted on average 17 percent of applications and saw about 65 percent of admitted applicants matriculate.

Stanford University
Stanford received 25,299 applications for admissions to the undergraduate program in 2007±2008, admitting 2,400 (9.8%), and enrolling 1,703 (71%), the lowest percentage in the university's 117-year history. 92% of students graduated in the top tenth of their high-school class and the inter-quartile ranges for the SAT were 680±780 for math, 670±760 for writing, and 650±760 for reading. For the class of 2013, Stanford received 5300 single-choice early action applications and accepted 689 of them, for an early admission rate of approximately 13%. This application season Stanford received more than 30,000 total applications from both the regular and early rounds and expects an overall admission rate of about 7.2%.

New York University

Vanderbilt University

In its most recent annual comparison of admissions selectivity, The Princeton Review gave Vanderbilt a rating of 98 out of 99. Brown University
The admission rate for the undergraduate class of 2014 was 9.3 percent. 96 percent of accepted students were in the top 10 percent of their high school class, and 38 percent were either valedictorian or salutatorian. Brown began using the Common Application in the Fall of 2008. The Graduate School is also highly competitive, with graduate programs accepting 18% of the 7,283 students who applied in 2008. The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University accepted less than 2% of its 5,000+ applicants.
