Directions on How to Really Be Here 2013-2014

Rainshadow

Rainshadow Community Guidelines
• Rainshadow Community adopted a model of behavior we refer to as TERMS. • When you choose to attend our school, you are also agreeing to our TERMS. • TERMS stand for: Trust, Equality, Respect, Maturity and that equals Success! • Practicing this everyday will help you really be here and help you better enjoy your stay!

Ways to be Gone
• Interfering with the safety of others. • Violating the learning process of others.

• Jeopardizing the future of Rainshadow .
• Insubordination to those authorized to enforce the guidelines.

Other Suggestions on Being Here
• Treat others with respect. • Follow classroom rules and do assigned work.

• Support your school community.
• Walk in the building and be safe. • Keep your hands, feet, and other objects to yourself. • Show appreciation for, and be courteous to, all groups/guests presenting programs or participating in athletic events in our school. • Treat the building and grounds with respect.

Closed Campus
• To provide a supervised, safe and orderly environment, Rainshadow has established a “closed campus”.

• You are asked to remain on campus until the end of the school day unless you have written authorization from a parent(s)/guardian and/or received permission from us to leave for a specified purpose.
• You can choose to leave campus without authorization and be classified as truant and subject to disciplinary action.

Closed Campus - Plus Side
• You only do this four days a week rather than five like many other schools. • You get a wonderful, free lunch or you can bring your own and we will hold it in a refrigerator.

• You can participate socially with your friends at lunch.

Smoking, Drugs and Alcohol
• It is a violation of Nevada State Law and Rainshadow rules to smoke on school property, to bring alcohol or other drugs to school or to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at school. • Steve will be happy to visit with you while he does the paperwork to either have you arrested and/or sent home suspended or expelled depending on the violation. • Yep, we are serious about this….

Dress Code
What you wear is a reflection of who you are!
The following clothing choices are not acceptable at Rainshadow: • Bare-midriffs, skin needs to be covered. Mini-skirts, spaghetti straps, tube tops and short shorts are not acceptable. • Any clothing, bandanas, gloves, accessory or symbolic apparel believed to be affiliated with gangs.

• Any clothing that refers to obscenities, pornography, violence, alcohol, drugs and/or contain unacceptable language or images.
• Underwear is under wear, please keep it covered.

Dress Code
What you wear is a reflection of who you are!

• Sagging or tight pants that show underwear. • Sunglasses, unless verifiable medical reasons exist, i.e. prescription. • Hooded sweatshirts are allowed as long as the hood is down inside the school. • Dress for success!

Dismissing Students
• The teacher, not the clock, dismisses class. • In the interest of campus management and uniformity, students are not to be dismissed from class prior to the end of the period. • You never get time back. • Be in class and make the most of your time.

Bicycles and Skate Boards
• Bicycles must be locked up outside in the rack provided; you must provide your own lock. • Skate Boards are not allowed in the building; please leave them at home. • Any skate boards brought to school will be locked up for the day through the front office. • There is no skating allowed on school property and our neighbors ask the same courtesy.

Student Vehicles
• You must register your vehicle with the front office and obtain a parking permit sticker. • You must present registration, valid driver's license and proof of insurance. • Parking in an unauthorized place may lead to your vehicle being towed at your expense.

Food and Drinks
• You may bring clear water bottles, with water only, into class, but please keep it away from computers.

• Any edible material will be consumed in the designated eating areas only at assigned times.
• Please plan ahead! • Eat in the morning before class and at lunch; so you can more completely benefit from being in class.

Public Displays of Affection (PDA)
• We support love and romance, just not here! (It’s a High School) • We do not support hugging, kissing, hand holding and other displays of affection here at school.

• Keep some space between people.

Cell Phones
• Cell phones or pagers need be turned off and put away so they are not visible during class times unless working as assigned by your current teacher.

• If you can’t resist using your phone, turn it off and turn it in to your teacher at the beginning of class.
• If you use your phone, your teacher will respectfully ask for it. • You may refuse to give up your property, but you will be suspended for insubordination. • Don’t take the risk! Turn it off…

MP3 Players, iPods, or other Music Players
• Music players may be used at breaks, lunch or as assigned by your current teacher. • Earphones need to be out of your ears in class during any discussion, instruction or other classroom activity that requires hearing.

• You are responsible to do this at all times without being reminded and/or asked repeatedly.

Graffiti and Other Forms of Defacing Property
• Writing, drawing, scratching, painting on desks, walls, mirrors or other school property is considered vandalism and is unacceptable. • Even though it may seem cool to you, it steals the respect and dignity of the other students.

• All graffiti is photographed and sent to the police and will be dealt with as a criminal issue.

Valuables at School
• Purses, wallets, money, phones, iPods or other valuables are your responsibility. • Unfortunately not all people are honest and trustworthy and some people will steal your stuff. • Leave your valuables at home or keep them with you at all times. • If lost, RCCHS is not responsible nor can we try to find and recover your property.

Passes
• When you leave the classroom, you need to sign out and have a pass. • Your time will be monitored when out of class on a pass. • No more than one student will be allowed out on a pass at a time from each class.

• Again, please plan ahead.
• Use the restroom before school and at lunch if at all possible.

Front Office, Doors and Phone
• After 8 AM, you need to enter the building through the main entrance only. • All other doors in the building are to be used as emergency exits only. • You may use the front office phone with permission from Rainshadow staff for parent/guardian contact only. • Excessive use or abuse of the phone will result in loss of phone privileges.

Visitors and Guests
• All visitors to Rainshadow must check with and sign in at the main office. • All visits must be arranged in advance (24 hour minimum) with the administration. • We are a public school and do not have people dropping in whenever.

Video and Audio Recording
• There is video recording inside and outside the building and also audio recording in some areas to provide a safer environment for your education. • Our servers save over a month of recorded history. • We use the recording as a learning process for teachers and staff.

• We may share our recording with parents or police as the need arises.
• Your activity is monitored daily through the cameras as well as walk throughs by administrators.

Choice School
• Various legal rulings have stated that schools need not tolerate dress, speech, or any actions that impede the educational process of others, even though the government may not censor similar items outside the school. (In other words, some of your Constitutional Rights stop when you enter the school doors.) • We are a great school working to become even better, and you are a big part of that growth.

Moving to Close
• We do understand that we are not the solution for everyone. • If you would like to go some where else, please let us know, and we will help you and your parents with a referral. • Remember we are a choice school and you do not have to attend here. • But if this is your choice school, we welcome you with love and respect… Steve and Staff

Closing
• We think of you as an adult and know you are very competent, capable, responsible and able to read for yourself.

• You will find a wealth of information, pictures of school activities and copies of the complete student handbook at our web site: www.rainshadowcchs.org
• It is really wise to read it since we will hold you accountable for it as if you did!
