Victory for Gibo
GIBO Teodoro will make it. This was the terse assessment on the chances of the standard bearer of LakasKampi –CMD by the new President of the administration party, Francis Manglapus. The new president of Lakas-Kampi- CMD party blasted the results of published surveys saying they mislead people to overlook the power of the biggest and best-oiled political machinery in the country, which is Lakas-Kampi-CMD. “We have the most complete set of candidates from president down to councilor posts,” said Manlapus, who took over the reins of Lakas after Teodoro quit as party chairman. “How could the survey stars even dream of victory when their political parties can’t even complete their own political slate?” Manglapus asked. It’s definitely a hard act to follow once the political machinery starts engaging the engine and shifts to high gear, there’s no stopping. It has the numbers and it’s well organized down to ground level. Gibo Teodoro, enjoys the overwhelming support of his party, the thinking class, the youth and well loved by the poorest of the poor. “Pardon my scepticism, but the votes of more than 50 million Filipinos cannot be confirmed by the preference of a motley group of 2,000 survey respondents,” Manglapus said. Survey results are pure pomp and pageantry and at best a betting game – the higher the rankings, the higher the possibility of getting more funding. To my mind, the rivals of presidential candidate Gilbert Teodoro are “toothless tigers” that roar noisily in the jungle of popularity polls. In reality, only Teodoro has what it takes to win the presidential race. He has “galing at talino” plus malinis ang pagkatao at walang bahid ng korapsyon. No frills, no propaganda. Teodoro’s track record and excellent ability to run the bureaucracy, as what he had shown at the Department of National Defense (DND) has been acknowledged by another rival presidential bet. And the appeal of the thinking class will be his magic wand that will do wonders on elections day. Since the campaign started, Gibo has shown he is his own man, never to be dictated upon by a cabal of party bigwigs or guided by some financial wizards who have made fortunes from the misery of others. Gibo is the real choice, and it is showing wherever he goes. On the other hand, Manglapus said that 80 percent of some 1,500 town mayors all over the country are card-carrying Lakas members capable of delivering 15 million votes for Teodoro. With a vast network of leaders, organizers and determined supporters unmatched by any other political party, Lakas-Kampi-CMD is further beefing up its organization to establish concrete presence in every polling precinct nationwide, ready to sway votes to ensure Teodoro’s victory on May 10. within their respective territorial jurisdiction, to display/ project the contents of the CCS laptop during the canvassing of election results in connection with the May 10 National and Local Elections,” said Comelec Resolution 8825. The Consolidation Canvassing System (CCS) laptops will be receiving election results from different polling precincts as soon as voting period ends. “To facilitate the widest coverage and bolster the transparency of the canvassing of election results, there is a need to encourage the use of LCD projectors to display the contents of the CCS laptop during the canvassing,” the Comelec said. Several groups, including members of the Joint Congressional Oversight Committee and civil society groups, had previously requested the Comelec to provide projectors so that the results of the elections can be flashed before the public.

The poll body has a good point when they issued Comelec Resolution 8823, that says election paraphernalia, including the PCOS machines, ballot boxes and official ballots, are not to be transported to and from polling centers there could be exemptions especially in “extreme cases.” “PNP and AFP vehicles shall not be used during the transport of PCOS machines, accessories, official ballots and other election paraphernalia unless, on extreme cases, directed in writing by the concerned Comelec official who has jurisdiction of the area where the emergency happened or occurred,” said the poll body in a three-page resolution. On the other hand, the authorities will be in–charge of providing security to the PCOS machines, accessories, and official ballots and other election paraphernalia while in transit. Meanwhile, the Comelec asked the local government units (LGUs) to provide the municipal/city/provincial board of canvassers LCD projectors, for the public to be able to see real-time results of the polls. In a two-page resolution, the Comelec en banc has invoked its power to utilize the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to perform election-related duties for the scheduled polls. “This Resolution requests the LGUs, through the DILG, to provide/make provisions for LCD projectors for each Municipal/City/Provincial/District Board of Canvassers

to deliver an estimated 2.5 million votes for Teodoro. She said their group has adopted the community organizing-style of campaign that catapulted Barack Obama to the US Presidency. “We merely rely on the corps of volunteers who believe in the leadership qualities of Gibo Teodoro,” Salazar said in a press conference held at the Kowloon Restaurant in Quezon City. “Unknown to many, the silent majority in Metro Manila wants Gibo to become the country’s next President. Ang mga walang kibo, ngayon kimikibo na para kay Gibo,” she added. Salazar, a physician who specializes in internal medicine, said their group never had an inkling that Gibo enjoys a big support in Metro Manila until the Palit-Galing campaigners made the rounds of urban poor communities in the area beginning last February.

VOLUNTEERS VOW 2.5M VOTES FOR GIBO
EVEN without the support of the Lakas-Kampi-NUCD machinery, administration presidential candidate Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro will surely win the May 10, 2010 national elections as “green volunteers” group from Quezon City vowed to deliver 2.5 million votes to him. Dr. Suzette Salazar, lead convenor of Palit Galing (Change Talent) Movement, said they have succeeded in recruiting at least 250,000 residents of Metro Manila tasked

Erap: Villar is desperate that’s why he uses his mom
INSTEAD of answering allegations that he is corrupt, Nacionalista Party standard bearer Manny Villar had even used his 86year old mother to defend him from negative reports hurled against him during the campaign for the May 10 presidential elections. Former President Joseph Estrada said Villar could be too desperate to use his mom as his defender and as well shield on the attacks made by his rivals in politics. Estrada, who like Villar is running for president, said he protected his mother, Doña Mary Ejercito, from all negative reports about him during the impeachment trial in December 2000. “Nangyari rin sa akin ang ganyan noong impeachment. Hindi ako at ang mga kapatid ko pumayag na maipakita sa aming ina ang telebisyon. Kakaunti na alng ang ilalagi niya sa mundo, bakit ko pa naman sasaktan ang kalooban ng nanay ko?,” asked Estrada. He said Villar ’s move is a desperate one. “He does not need to add emotional pain on his mom.” Annette Vergel

US gov’t unveils new $100 note
“KNOW its features so you can know it’s real.” This was the statement released by the US Embassy in Manila after officials from the US Embassy and the United States Secret Service unveiled the new design for the $100 note. The announcement in Manila came following the unveiling event held at Washington D.C. Complete with advanced technology to combat counterfeiting, the new design for the $100 note retains the traditional look of U.S. currency. The unveiling marks the beginning of a global public education program, with the Philippines identified as one of the key countries where it will be implemented. With millions of Filipinos overseas, it is of utmost importance to educate them and their families about the new design and how to detect counterfeits. “As with previous U.S. currency redesigns, this note incorporates the best technology available to ensure we’re staying ahead of counterfeiters,” said Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner.

Noy’s new psycho report also fake
A new version of a report on Senator Benigno Aquino III’s mental health, released on Tuesday by a supporter of Nacionalista Party (NP) presidential bet Sen. Manny Villar, is also fake. Jesuit priest Jaime Bulatao, who supposedly signed the report, denied writing or signing such a report. The second fake report on Aquino’s mental health was distributed at a press conference by former National Power Corp. President Guido Delgado. Guido said the report he has distributed were not verified because “it is the media’s role to confirm its veracity.” The report claims that Aquino, who was then only a 19-year-old student of Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), was found to be “suffering from depression and melancholia,” due partly to his father Ninoy’s incarceration under the martial law regime of Ferdinand Marcos. On the other hand, Bulatao, a professor at the AdMU’s Department of Psychology, denied having written and signed the report. “It has come to my attention that an unverified ‘psychiatric evaluation’ allegedly signed by me in 1979 about the mental condition of Senator Benigno C. Aquino III is currently circulating in the news. I categorically deny having written and signed the report,” he stressed. Earlier, a bogus psychiatric report from the Ateneo psychology department on Aquino was circulated. It had factual errors, including the signatory, Fr. Carmelo “Tito” Caluag, who denied it as he was never a psychologist but a high school principal in the same school.

PGMA inaugurates 4 footbridges on Commonwealth
PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo yesterday lauded the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) for putting order to the traffic situation in the metropolis including the establishment of footbridges that ensures the safety of millions of pedestrians. The chief executive inaugurated yesterday the four steel footbridges worth P62.8 million located along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City. The MMDA bridge projects which were finished last February are now benefiting some 50,000 pedestrians daily along Commonwealth Avenue. On board an MMDA bus, Arroyo, together with MMDA Chairman Oscar Inocentes and MMDA general manager Robert Nacianceno, inspected the footbridges located at the UP-Ayala Technohub; Iglesia ni Cristo in Tandang Sora intersection; Puregold near Luzon Avenue and UP-Ayala Technohub. The President said many pedestrians are now benefiting from the establishment of the low-cost steel footbridges. Alex Balcoba

Tinsay urges Makati execs to generate jobs
BANGON Pilipinas (BP) Senatorial candidate candidate Alex Tinsay has asked Makati City businessmen to generate more employment opportunities for 7.5 million job seekers throughout the country. Tinsay said this over the weekend when he was guest speaker during the recent meeting at the Rotary Club of Makati Urdaneta in Makati City. At the same time, Tinsay told the Rotarians that he has proposed to the Department of Education (DepEd) for the introduction of entrepreneurial subjects to the high school curriculum so that when high school graduates finish the secondary level they would become good employers instead of being employees some day.

Bosch Philippines commemorates World Day for Safety and Health at Work
POWER tools pioneer Bosch celebrates the success of its Health and Safety Campaign in conjunction with the annual World Day for Safety and Health at Work. Both campaigns shared a common goal of raising the awareness of occupational health and safety (OHS), and reducing the number of injuries and diseases associated with workplace hazards. Held annually on the 28th of April, the World Day for Safety and Health at Work is an international campaign observed by the International Labour Organization of the United Nations to promote safe, healthy and decent work standards. Since its inception in 2003, the commemoration has remained a significant platform to a hazard-free environment while encouraging legislative support among government agencies. The theme for 2010 is "Emerging risks and new patterns of prevention in a changing world of work," highlighting the importance of accident prevention and wellness in view of global technological advancement. As the world's leading power tool manufacturer, Bosch recognized the crucial need to address and advocate good work practices and thus the company pioneered a regional health and safety campaign in early 2010, which is designed to inform and educate entrepreneurs, businesses and workers in Asia Pacific on the potential dangers of bad work practices that can lead to workers' injuries. In the Philippines, the company's local subsidiary, Robert Bosch Inc., organized a local campaign, which

CBCP organizes vigil for peaceful May polls
THE Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) will be holding a nine -day vigil for the country to have a peaceful, orderly and honest May 10 national and local elections. According to Msgr. Pedro Quitorio III, CBCP Media Director, the prayer vigil will be conducted starting May 3 to May 11 at 12 noon to 12 midnight at the Archdiocese of Manila or the Manila Cathedral, both located in Intramuros, Manila. Fr. Quitorio believes that organizing such event would help solve the country’s problems. “We believe that all the upheavals in our country have a component of prayer so we thought of holding a prayer vigil many hours everyday to be organized near the office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec),” he said. Quitorio said that he is still crafting the mechanics of the vigil, adding that they are still gathering the support of groups to join them in their cause. He added that they are also looking at the possibility of inviting the bishops to join them. “Hopefully, we’ll invite them to attend but we’ll also ask them in their own areas to have a parallel novena. But we’ll still dispatch some communication,” he said.

Bosch rotary hammers have safety functions including anti-vibration features that reduce Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS). Bosch hammers and precision power tools are used in major work sites worldwide. will be conducted in partnership with the Philippine Contractors Association. Together, both organizations plan to tap some 107,000 workers employed in the country's construction establishments. The program will also be complemented with joint worker training activities conducted by Bosch and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, drawing from a memorandum signed in December 2009. Finally, Bosch's local flagship is also exploring the inclusion of accident insurance and hospitalization benefits for the country's construction workers who purchase and use its power tools. The company is currently in negotiations with a leading financial services institution.

In a resolution, Agra absolved suspended Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Governor Zaldy Ampatuan and Mamasapano, Maguindanao Vice Mayor Datu Akmad Ampatuan, Sr. due to lack of probable cause. Chief State Prosecutor Claro Arellano yesterday said that there are other legal remedies that can be availed of by the complainants if Secretary Agra will only dismiss the motion for reconsideration filed by them. Arellano added that the complainants may either file their appeal before the Office of the President (OP) or the Court of Appeals (CA) to question the decision of Agra. Agra on Monday stood pat on his decision saying that he found nothing wrong with his resolution exonerating Zaldy and Akmad Amapatuan, Sr. of the 57 counts of murder.

Our Daily Bread
When a publishing company asked me to write an endorsement for a new book, I said I’d be glad to. It appeared to be a helpful effort directed to young people, challenging them to live for God in a changing world. But as I read the book, something troubled me. Although it had lots of Scripture and great spiritual advice, it didn’t explain that the starting point for any relationship with God is salvation through Jesus Christ. The writer seemed to imply that the essence of living spiritually in modern society is based totally on action—good deeds—and not on saving faith in Christ. I didn’t write the endorsement. The culture of the church is changing rapidly. Often left behind in the rush to find exciting new ideas is the essential nature of the gospel. The apostle Paul was astonished that people so readily embraced a “different gospel” (Gal. 1:6). What he preached was not from man, but a direct revelation from Jesus Himself (vv.1112). We must never let go of that true gospel: Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again for our justification, declaring us righteous before God (Rom. 4:25; 1 Cor. 15:3-4). This alone offers the “power of God to salvation for everyone who believes” (Rom. 1:16). If we want to live for God, this is the only place to start. — Dave Branon No one can say he doesn’t need Forgiveness for his sin, For all must come to Christ by faith To have new life within. —Branon Faith is the hand that must take God’s gift of salvation.

A CONSTRUCTION whose main office is in Ortigas Center, Pasig City was ordered shut down yesterday by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for violating the National Internal Revenue of 1997, as amended (Tax Code), particularly for not declaring its sales for VAT (value added tax) purposes by 100%. Travel firms to lose more with EU ban
TRAVEL operators claimed that are experiencing revenue losses since the European Union banned local airlines to fly directly to Europe. Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA) president Maria Paz Alberto said that their members that also offer inbound travel services have suffered a drop in their bookings as European travelers have become wary of coming to the country since the announcement of the blacklisting. “The ban on local airlines by European authorities is another major blow to the operations of travel agencies who are also currently battling online promos by airlines and hotels,” Alberto said.

8 Mosley vows to punish Mayweather Jr.
SAN Francisco, California—This biggest night in boxing in 2010, takes place May 1, 2010, (May 2 in Manila) when welterweight titlist, Shane Mosley, takes on boxing superstar, Floyd Mayweather Jr., in a welterweight clash. Momentum has been building since HBO’s 24/7 series began airing early April and the Promoters are expecting a historic night in Las Vegas. Mayweather will fight the biggest and toughest opponent he has ever faced at welterweight. Mosley, riding off his impressive destruction of Antonio Margarito, will attempt to be the first fighter to ever beat Mayweather. Mosley, at 38 years old, had his best performance in close to seven years when he walked through Margarito to take the welterweight title. However, that bout took place over 15 months ago and prior to that match, Mosley faced a lot of questions on whether he is still an elite welterweight fighter. Remember, many believed Margarito would end the career of Shane Mosley and be the first stop of the fighter. Just prior to the Margarito win, it took Mosley 12 rounds to knockout the human punching bag, Ricardo Mayorga, and he faded late in a 12 round decision loss to Miguel Cotto in 2007. Mosley needs to prove that the Margarito win was not a fluke and that he can remind the doubter of why he was the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world back in 2001.

College player mahilig?

First win for Erkiaga
THE long wait is over. Spanish pelotari Erkiaga finally got his first point in our Sports Valley Jai Alai. This came after a long series of rounds last April 26 wherein the game lasted for more than an hour. Erkiaga, together with Ronron and Madrigal makes the combined trio of 8-10-2, which garnered some 3,600 merit points. The hottest pelotari in town, Ronron, could have been the winner that night had he not committed an error serve after his penultimate point. But the win for Erkiaga finally made him acceptable to the winning circle. He is the last pelotari who registered his victory afterall. And in our record, Erkiaga has one win, five times placing second and one time placing third in his 21 games.
