1287 Park Avenue Woolrich, PA, 17779 570-660-7607 [email protected] Dear Sir/Madam, I would like to express my interest in the advertised position of Administrative Support Assistant 2 in the Division of Development and Alumni Relations of Penn State University. As a recent graduate of Lycoming College with a B.A. in theatre/acting, I am interested in obtaining employment at another respected academic institution in the Pennsylvania area, and the position you have advertised seems well within my abilities. These abilities were greatly developed in the four years that I attended Lycoming College. In my pursuit of my theatre degree, I acted in 12 of the school’s productions while also maintaining a 3.084 GPA over the four years at the college and obtaining a Theatre Performance Award along the way. In my downtime at school, I also acted as historian to the Alpha Psi Omega National Theater Honor Society, directed/adapted/acted in an audio adaptation of the Moliere play Tartuffe for the college’s radio station, wrote film reviews for the Lycourier, the school’s newspaper, and kept building my skills in writing through the numerous papers I wrote to fulfill my academic requirements. In the summers between these four years, I took up a job in school bus maintenance for Susquehanna Trailways. Though this seems like a rather unlikely job for someone pursuing a theatre major, I found it a refreshing break from the demands of theatre and school, as well as a great opportunity to develop an ethic for hard work, working from 7am to 3:30pm on minimum wage pay in very hot temperatures. I also got an opportunity to develop my theatrical skill this past summer when a position opened up for a costume shop intern at my local theatre, the Millbrook Playhouse. Here, I reorganized the several costume pieces that had stacked up over the years according to the natures of the clothing or fabrics, helped dress the actors in two of the season’s productions, and assisted with any and all miscellaneous tasks that were left to do. Over all this time, I have been hoping to put my relentless work ethic, skills in organization and writing, interest in computers, and outgoing personality to good use, and I believe one of the best uses I can think of is to work as an assistant to the fine people at Penn State University. As for any of the duties that are new to me, you will soon find that I am a very quick learner and attentive listener who can pick up on anything told to me in a matter of minutes. Whatever you tell me to do will get done quickly, efficiently, and even with a little bit of creativity. I can only hope to prove all of this to you in the flesh, so please contact me if you’re interested in what I have to offer and we can go from there. Thank you so much for considering me to fulfill this position, and I hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely, JESSE SHADE
