Clarine Cheah HP1
I woke up, or so I thought. I felt a strange sensation engulfing me and I opened my eyes.
White ashes were strewn all over the forest floor, and blackened remains replaced the once
majestic trees. “Where am I?” “What am I doing here?” Countless questions arose in my
mind as I slowly rose to my feet. Suddenly, realisation dawned on me. Clutching my head, I
howled in grief and agony as memories started to fill my mind.
It had been a regular morning with stars faintly peeping down like silver asters, glinting and
shimmering. The forest was oak-brown and primitive, with 60-metre-high trees down the
slopes of the hills. A winding river flowed through, and the forest was an endless chaos of
different species of tree, every kind of green, even under the uniform glare of the tropical sun.
Parasitic growths sprouted everywhere, ferns fanned out from every angle in the branches,
creepers as thick as legs gripped each other and tangled down to the surface of the water,
their tips twining down in the current like river-weed. The picturesque forest covered an area
of a thousand square miles, coveted by many humans. I listlessly trotted among the trees,
sniffing for unusual scents.
Suddenly, the loud screeching of birds and violent movement towards the North caught my
attention. As I neared the source, suddenly, a piercing cry broke the dead silence and I froze.
The scene in front of me was ghastly, crimson flames were rapidly devouring the trees and
splotches of red blood covered the forest floor. A well-built man with toned arms stood
triumphantly amidst a pile of carcasses. In one hand he held a smoking rile and in the other,
the pelt of a wolf. Fresh, bright red blood dripped from his trophy. With a bloodcurdling
growl, I leapt at the man in a burst of fury, knocking his weapon aside and sinking my teeth
into his neck. I held my ground until the man ceased to struggle and lay down lifelessly.

Revenge had been served. Crack! Suddenly, a branch broke off from a burning tree and fell
heavily on my head. My eyes blurred as pain filled my body.

At the peak of a hill, grief filled my heart as I gazed at the place I once called my home.
Clouds bellied out in the sultry heat, the sky cracked open with a crimson gash, and the
ancient forest smoked. Turning away from the grim scene, I slowly walked away, embarking
on a journey in search of a new home.. Turningjjjjjjjjj away from the grim scene, I
