In my paper I talked about the functions of the criminal justice system and their flaws.

According to the Jrank Law Library the criminal justice system is a set of legal and social institutions for enforcing criminal law in accordance with a defined set of procedural rules and limitations. There are two branches of the criminal justice system. The state and federal system. The state system is at the state level and rules and regulations are different for each state of the US. The federal system is at at government level. The criminal justice system is divided into three main parts. The police, courts and corrections. The function of the police according to the text book is to enforce the law and protect the people in the community within their jurisdiction. They also investigate crimes, reduce and prevent crimes and protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals. They are always on duty no matter if they are wearing their uniform or not.

As Dean Goforth said. There is no such thing as a off duty cop.. The function of the courts is to protect the rights and freedoms of anyone facing processing in the justice system. Other duties of the courts include conducting fair and impartial trials, deciding on criminal cases, ensure due process, and determining guilt or innocence. They also check the exercise of power in other criminal justice agencies. Also according to the text book fairness, professionalism, integrity and impartiality are expected of all criminal justice personnel at every stage of criminal case processing and it is a special duty of the courts to ensure that these expectations are met. The last section of the criminal justice system is corrections. The main function of the correctional system is to rehabilitate, reform and reintergrate convicted offenders back into the community. With the criminal justice system having three systems within itself it is bound to have some flaws of its own. Each system within has it’s own complex set of rules. Some flaws of the criminal justice system are police

corruption, the way certain offenses are handled (I.e the drug law). And corruption of the court/jury.
