PowerCommand® Medium Voltage Digital Paralleling Systems

PowerCommand
THE POWER OF ONE™ Traditional power systems often combine engines, alternators, controls, paralleling equipment, and switchgear all from various manufacturers. That makes system integration a challenge and leaves customers responsible for resolving subsequent job-site problems at install, commissioning, or maintenance. Cummins Power Generation changes all that. PowerCommand Digital Paralleling Systems are designed, prototype tested, manufactured, and serviced by one manufacturer, who takes responsibility for the entire on-site power system – not just one piece of it. That’s the Power Of One – one system, with components created to work together, designed, built, pre-integrated, and serviced by one company. The result is reliability, optimum system performance, and minimum system cost – all backed by the largest power generation system support organization in the world.

THE SYSTEM WITH NO EQUAL Today, having a reliable, flexible and easy-to-operate on-site power generation system is more important than ever before. Reliable – because the costs of power outages and the consequences of disruptions to your business have never been greater. Flexible – because your power needs, supply circumstances and utility costs are dynamic. Easy-to-operate – because the touchscreen controls means information
McMinnville Electric Systems in Tennessee and Cirent Semiconductor in Florida, use PowerCommand Digital Paralleling Systems for peaking and emergency back-up power, while paralleling with the local utility.

is presented in an easy to understand format. Whether your on-site power system is relied on for prime power, emergency backup, or for taking advantage of power sharing opportunities with your local utility, the key to getting all these benefits and more is the advanced PowerCommand Digital Paralleling System from Cummins Power Generation. No other system offers all the benefits you get with PowerCommand Digital Paralleling. From true digital control of startup, synchronization, and bumpless power transitions – to sophisticated diagnostics, remote monitoring, and networkability – PowerCommand Digital Paralleling Systems are without equal.

for true power system reliability, flexibility, and ease-of-use.
DIGITAL PARALLELING – A HIGHER STANDARD In less than 15 seconds, PowerCommand Digital Paralleling Systems can parallel and synchronize all your diesel and multiple gas-engine generator sets with the utility. And it’s the same fast, consistent performance each and every time. Only PowerCommand has been designed from the ground up as a true distributed logic concept: paralleling controls mounted on the gensets, low or medium voltage power section, and the Digital Master Control for supervisory functions. Combine these advantages with a smaller footprint, lower system costs, and easy-to-use intuitive interfaces that share the same data throughout the system, and you’ve got state-of- the-art performance that is unsurpassed. APPLICATIONS PowerCommand Medium Voltage Switchgear is already in service in hundreds of applications worldwide – including electric generation and distribution systems, industrial plants, commercial buildings, hospitals, wastewater treatment plants, transportation systems, and pipeline stations. This class of switchgear protects transformers, motors, generators, capacitors, distribution lines, and feeder circuits. PowerCommand Medium Voltage Switchgear can also be specified to provide critical main service entrance protection and controls in these applications.

TRADITIONAL OPERATOR CONTROL PANEL

A LEAP FROM TRADITION Paralleling equipment from many manufacturers, looks, works and uses many of the same components as it did 25 years ago. But PowerCommand brings your power systems into the 21st Century. Its power, simplicity, and ease of use are obvious from even a quick inspection of the hardware. Rather than hundreds of components wired in custom-manufactured switchgear lineups, our digital paralleling equipment has revolutionized the way paralleling is designed and manufactured. All Cummins Power Generation Digital Master Controls are designed and manufactured around standardized control blocks for increased reliability. As a result, PowerCommand systems deliver better performance with increased functionality. And they use fewer components, taking up to 40% less space, and are easier to service than traditional systems.

Controls for most paralleling equipment are a maze of meters, switches and cryptically labeled lamps that many operators never figure out.

The PowerCommand digital paralleling control is serviced with a PC-based tool, InPower™, that allows diagnosis, data monitoring, and adjustment of all control functions – even governing, synchronizing, and voltage regulation. Since adjustments are possible via modem, factory-based technicians can directly connect and evaluate problems.

TODAY’S USER-FRIENDLY TOUCHSCREEN CONTROLS

DIGITAL MASTER CONTROL – STANDARD DESIGN The standardized design utilizes distributed logic to form a series of basic modular units, control packages, and instrumentation. For most switchgear ratings, circuit configurations and functions, one basic size unit is used. This design provides application flexibility, reliability, efficiency, and economy by minimizing engineering time to plan and lay out the switchgear. With PowerCommand Digital Master Controls the genset performs all paralleling functions, the digital master control automates load add/shed, data logging, and operator interface and the switchgear provides basic circuit protection, and electrical switching functions. Components are neutralized, increasing reliability. So single component failure cannot bring the entire system down.

PowerCommand Digital Master Control features an easy-to-use touchscreen with more operational and diagnostic information for operators.

A new standard of control.
RELIABLE Fewer parts mean fewer failures, and when compared to traditional paralleling control systems, the Digital Master Control represents a 20-fold decrease in the number of components and wiring. System reliability is based on a standard design platform. Reliability through repeatability – that is the simple premise behind the Cummins Power Generation Digital Master Control. EASY TO USE The Digital Master Control uses an interactive touchscreen, housed in a compact enclosure, not a large complex looking gear-mounted control. Instead of flashing lamps, multiple switches and swinging needles, you’ll see simple graphical displays and instructions. Messages are prioritized and everything is in one location. Models 200 & 300 incorporate the system drawing and operation manual into the touchscreen. All this makes it easier to respond to emergency conditions and maximize up-time. FLEXIBLE Powered by a full-featured industrial PC, the color touchscreen on Models 200 & 300 makes it easy to program and update with a commercially available Windows®-based software platform. The PC platform makes it easy to interface to existing media, like Ethernet, so you can transmit information without creating an all new infrastructure. In fact, any place you can put a computer, you can locate a redundant operator interface to monitor the power system.
