Total fertility rate
The total fertility rate (TFR), sometimes also called the fertility rate, period total fertility rate (PTFR) or total period fertility rate(TPFR) of a population is the average number of children that would be born to a woman over her lifetime if 1. she were to experience the exact current age-specific fertilityrates (ASFRs) through her lifetime, and 2. she were to survive from birth through the end of her reproductive life. It is obtained by summing the single-year age-specific rates at a given time.

Traditionally, the most common cause worldwide was dehydration fromdiarrhea, however a variety of programs combating this problem have decreased the rate of children dying from dehydration. As a result, the most common cause is now pneumonia. Other major causes of infant mortality include: malnutrition, malaria, congenital malformation, infection and SIDS.

Maternal mortality rate-The maternal mortality rate, the number of maternal deaths per 1000 women of reproductive age in the population (generally defined as 15-44 years of age) .

A maternal death is defined as the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and site of the pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management but not from accidental or incidental causes.
