• Our main purpose is to
improve student academic
achievement.
• Effective instruction makes
the most difference in student
academic achievement.
• There is no excuse for poor
quality instruction.
• With our help, at-risk students
will achieve at the same rate as
non at-risk students.
• Staff members must have a
commitment to children
AND a commitment
to the pursuit of
excellence.
Dallas ISD
Core Beliefs
DESTINATION 2020 IS A
COMMUNITY WIDE EFFORT
Make sure your children get to school on time, every day.
Make sure your children do their homework.
Make sure your children read at home every night.
1.
2.
3.
Three things parents must do to ensure their child
receives the best education:
“We cannot always build the future for our youth,
but we can build our youth for the future.”
Franklin D. Roosevelt
• 90% of our students will graduate on time by
Year 2020.
• 40% of our students will attain a 21 or higher
composite score on the ACT exam; or SAT of
1110 on reading/math.
• 75% of our students will be proficient on the
“Year 2020 workplace readiness assessments.”
• 80% of our students will enter college, the
military, or a “career-ready job” straight from
high school.
YEAR 2020 GOALS
We will reach our destination if we...
... place an effective teacher in front of every child.
... make principals the key to reform.
... hire the most efficient and competent central office staff
in the nation.
... expand leadership density.
... engage parents and the community to work in reinforcing
ways to graduate college and career-ready students.
DIRECTION
Ensure staff members
understand the direction of the
District and the Core Beliefs.
1.
Improve the quality of instruction.
2.
KEY ACTIONS
Belief in Destination 2020 and adherence to the Core
Beliefs will be paramount to staff and student success.
At DISD, instruction is the “main thing” and key metric for all
principals, teachers and School Leadership administrators. We
must focus our efforts on improving the quality of instruction.
Create a career-
ready certificate.
7.
We have to educate students to
become “college ready” or “career
ready” by the time they graduate.
Students should be able to enter a
four-year college without remediation;
or enter the workforce with the skills
and knowledge necessary to acquire
and hold a skilled job.
Create strategic
feeder groups.
8.
Focus and channel the various
efforts of community partnerships to
support at-risk student population
feeder groups. DISD partners will
work toward both economic and
educational renewal.
Develop prlnclpals lnto ettectlve
