The Therapeutic Recreation/ Prevention Intervention office provides programs and service to promote healthy lifestyles for individuals who are at risk or have special needs. While we have included adapted classes in the appropriate class category (for example go to gymnastics for the adapted gymnastic class), look for a complete overview of adapted programs on page 21.

Arlington County is proud to provide lessons that are based on the Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program. When registering please make sure participants can complete all necessary prerequisites prior to beginning the class. Student who are not at the right level hinder the classes’ ability to function. Everyone progresses at different speeds, so it is typical to repeat courses. Public Health requires pools to close when contaminated. Swim diapers or snug-fitting plastic pants must be worn by anyone who is incontinent. Also please do not eat with 30 minutes of swimming. Junior Jam
the “Jam” is for teens and preteens who already have a busy summer schedule but still want to enjoy summer favorites such as sports, swimming, music, arts, group games and tournaments. teens take an active role in planning activities, field trips and special events. While teens are encouraged to stay at the site, this is a drop-in program that allows teens to come and go. For youth needing more accountability, select programs that require parental consent to leave during the program hours.

T.e.A.M. Teen entrepreneur Amusement Management – A Teen Job Readiness Program

it’ all about sports. teens — girls and boys — of all abilities — between the ages of 11 and 16 are invited to HB Woodlawn School from participate from 1 to 6pm. get off the couch, out of the house or come after summer school and hang with us. Each week will have a different sports theme that includes soccer, football, basketball, hockey, softball and fitness training. come ready to play! Running a serious business can be seriously fun and rewarding! at Kenmore Middle School this summer, teens 13 and up learn all of the aspects of operating a small amusement/adventure business. Participants receive hands-on training on topics such as small business ownership, the does and don’ts of starting and operating a business, money management, diversity, communication and leadership. as a final project, the tEaM will plan and run a special event for elementary-age children. Adapted Programs for Special Needs!
The Therapeutic Recreation/Prevention Intervention Office provides programs and services that embrace Arlington County’s vision of creating a community environment that promotes health and wellness for individuals who are at risk or have special needs. The TR/PI office also provides reasonable accommodations in general recreation classes and programs as well. Participants must be able to work well in a group environment; participation is encouraged buy not forced. Our programmers work with parents, participants and instructors to meet the needs of the participant. This could include adaptations to program, staff training, ASL interpreters and more. There are also programs are specifically designed for individuals with physical, emotional, social or cognitive/ mental challenges. These programs provide a low staff to participant ratio and small group sizes to better meet the needs of all. For more information call 703-228-4740.

Volunteers needed for the lose the training Wheels program, designed to help individuals with disabilities learn to ride a bike independently. Help Remove Invasive Plants in our Parks
Work up a sweat as we get rid of unwanted plant invaders. gear up and head out to remove some of these intruders from the parkland. Work sessions include a warm-up with some basic plant identification and to learn why some plants are problematic. if you have your own garden gloves and tools, please bring them along. Some tools will be provided. tennis courts in the following parks can now be reserved online: Bluemont, Bon air, Quincy, Virginia Highlands, gunston, greenbrier, Fort Scott, Jennie dean, glebe, Madison Manor and tuckahoe. Reservations for 1 hour (min) to 1.5 hours (max) in length can be made 1-14 days in advance.

Six of arlington’s parks have picnic shelters for large private and corporate picnics that are available for rental from april through october. Between november and May shelters are not reserved but can be used on a first-come first-served basis.

Registration Process
Household id’s are needed for online registration. current customers can call 703-228-4747 or email [email protected] for their number. new customers must establish an online account prior to registration by going to https:// registration.arlingtonva.us. confirmations are mailed the day they are processed or emailed if we have your current email on file. Please do not call the Registration office to change or verify a class until you receive a confirmation. class participants must sign a Hold Harmless agreement at the initial class. adults must sign for children. Refusal to sign this agreement will result in the participant being denied acceptance into the program.

due to an early publication deadline, instructors may be changed before classes begin. classes are cancelled one week prior to the start date if minimum enrollment has not been met. Refunds

Refunds can only be requested through the Registration office at 703-228-4747. Full refunds for PRcR classes will be made automatically when classes are canceled by PRcR due to insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen reasons; or upon request when schedule or location changes made by PRcR prohibit or limit your attendance. Refunds for medical reasons must be accompanied by a physician’s note and shall be considered on a case by case basis. customers who request a refund prior to the start of the second class for any reason other than those stated above will receive a full refund minus a $15 service charge within 30 days of request. credit card charges will be refunded directly to the credit card. no refunds or credits after the second class has started. no refunds or credits if a customer is unable to attend a one-session class or workshop.
