EXECUTIVE SUMMARYThe hospitality industry is made up of different sectors such as restaurants, spas, hotels, resorts, bars and many more. Moral values play a large role in how management implement and maintain an organizational culture and this depends on the type of people involved. Ethics is defined as a branch of philosophy concerned with evaluating human action. Some distinguish ethics, what is right or wrong based on reason, from morals, what is considered right or wrong behavior based on social custom. (Koeller, 2003) According to Aristotle, we study ethics in order to improve our lives, and therefore its principal concern is the nature of human well-being. (Kraut, 2010) The concept of ethics in a bar can differ depending on the type of management and the internal stakeholders involved in the day to day decision making and overall management of the bar. Communication with customers plays an important role in the hospitality industry like in bars. Many of the staff members are included in order to achieve and provide a maximum bar experience. The people involve include hostesses, waitresses, managers, bartenders and the owners. Bar service is an important aspect in the presentation of a bar. However this can be altered depending on the ethical issues placed by the management such as serving alcohol under-age customers, and other issues that will be discussed further in this paper. This paper will discuss the different issues and concerns involving the operations and functions in a bar. Throughout this report, we will consider the different issues that a bar faces when it comes to ordering and serving drinks to customers. Furthermore, we will analyze in depth the operations of a bar and the different loopholes that need to be addressed to reach a higher level of moral ethics. We will also understand the external impact of how unethical behavior within the management of the bar can lead to unorganized and an uncontrolled society.
