EXPERIMENTAL 1). Materials and instrumentation: Styren ( Acros, 95%) 4-bromoanisole ( Merock, 95%) K2CO3 ( Acros, 99%) DMF ( Acros, 98%) Na2CO3 ( Acros, 92%) Erther (Acros, 94%) 2). General produce: A mixture of styren ( 5g,0,1 mol) and 4-bromoanisole(4g, 0,05 mol) and K2CO3 ( 5g, 0,2 mol) in DMF ( 10ml) was added to a 50 ml round bottom flask containing Pd catalyst( 2g, 0.1 mol). The reaction mixture was heated at 140 oC with magnetic stirring under a nitrogen atmostphere for 10 hours. Then it was cooled down room temperature. The mixture was washed by 20% sodium carbonate ( 3x, 20 ml). The crude product was extracted into ether( 3x) and then anhydrous sodium sulfate was added to dry the ether solution. Sodium sulfate was collected by filtration. The solvent was removed by evaporation under vaccum at 30 oC for 30 mins. The crude product was purified by crystallization in n-hexan ( 10ml) at 0oC for 24 hours. The crystals were collected by filtration under vaccum and then was dried at 50 oC for 2 hours. Yielding the desired product ( 5g, 0.3 mol, 80%). The product was analized by NMR, MS, FT –IR to conform the product structure.
