I took the California Reality Check which evaluated the cost of living to support my lifestyle. For the reality check, I picked a lifestyle similar to the one I currently have. The annual salary is close to what my family makes and made sense to me because my family lives very comfortably, although we are not rich. Due to my expensive lifestyle, I require a career which has enough buying power to support me. Looking at the reality check, most of the careers were in finance, engineering, or medicine and required higher degrees.

I took the CA career zones test, which analyzed my interests to determine my career. I found these results to accurately represent my personality traits. I am very investigative, creative, and ambitious; I prefer to do most of my work with my head, not my body. Some careers which were recommended for me were: creative writing, reporting, urban planning, film editing, video game designer, historian, and surprisingly mathematician. These careers seemed agreeable to me because I like to be a part of creative projects where I can ensure the production values are of the upmost quality. I was surprised that physician was not one of my recommended careers.

The Struggle

Forbes Happiest Jobs In America
Quality Assurance Engineer Executive Chef Property manager Bank Teller Warehouse Manager Administrative Assistant Customer Service Accountant Representative Systems Engineer Construction Manager Human Resources Manager Field services technician Process Engineer Financial Analyst Software Engineer Director of Operation Loan officer Electrician Machine Operator System Administrator These are the happiest jobs in America, according to polls. The path to becoming a physician is a long and winding road, full of pain and suffering, but also altruism, respect and success. The first step in becoming a doctor is a four year undergraduate degree with a strong emphasis on science. Next is medical school, where one obtains their higher level degrees such as a Master’s Degree or Doctorate. After obtaining a PhD, the student becomes a resident, training under senior physician educators. Now you are finally a doctor! Wait, there’s more. An additional one to three years is required to become specialized in a certain field. The newfound doctor requires a license to practice medicine and voluntary board certification is used to prove quality patient care in a specific field. The screening process shows no mercy.

UC Irvine Costs

College Admittance
There are many colleges people can go to for a higher education. I will most likely go to the UC System. These are the requirements: -Complete 15 A-G courses during high school. -take a standardized test (SAT or ACT) -SAT subject test (recommended, not required) -if lacking high school diploma, then General Education Development (GED) The process seems relatively easy at first glance. But upon closer inspection, it is much more difficult. Due to the competition found in admissions, one usually needs to excel in extracurricular activities and have exemplary community service. Students from all over the world battle for spots in world class institutions and impacted classes.

The Job
Surgeons specialize in the treatment of injury, disease, and deformity through operations. Using a variety of instruments, and with patients under anesthesia, a surgeon corrects physical deformities, repairs bone and tissue after injuries, or performs preventive surgeries on patients with debilitating diseases or disorders. Although a large number perform general surgery, many surgeons choose to specialize in a specific area. Here are a few examples: Orthopedic-treat the musculoskeletal system Neurosurgeons-treat the brain and nervous systems Cardiovascular-treat the lungs and heart Plastic-reconstruction of the body for reconstructive or cosmetic reasons

Reflect
A.I learned many new things about during my career investigation. For one, I am pretty high matinence and need to generate a good income to support my costly lifestyle. I also learned that the process of becoming a doctor can take over a decade, but the payoffs to help people and make a living are good. B. This information has driven me to study harder, so I can become successful and live a good life. I am leaning towards medicine, but would not rule out a more creative field. C. My next steps (if all goes well) are to follow the path outlined in “The Struggle.” I will do my best in school so I can become a doctor. As a doctor, I will try to establish a high-quality and successful practice.

The world is a competitive place…

Fight the enemy!
