FAQ
1. I have obtained only a grade from my University but not any specific marks. How will I write the percentage equivalent? Ans - Generally the Universities specify a conversion formula. In some cases, the exact percentage equivalent may be specified while in some cases; only an interval of marks is given. For example, the formula may stipulate, say, “the grade B means 55-64 percent of marks”. In such cases, take the exact midpoint, which is (55+64)/2 = 59.5, as your percentage equivalent. If the grade is awarded in a CGPA pattern, the University may specify something like “3.49 – 3.99’ implies a percentage equivalent of 55 – 64”. So, if a candidate secures 3.80 (say), his/her percentage equivalent may be calculated as follows: Step 1 : Step 2: Step 3 :
૜.ૢૢି૜.૝ૢ ૜.ૡ૙ି૜.૝ૢ

=

૙.૜૚ ૙.૞૙

= ૙. ૟૛

0.62 x (64 - 55) = 5.58 55 + 5.58 = 60.58 rounded off to 60.6

2. I appeared directly in the Higher Secondary level examination as there was no system of a Board examination after the 10th standard during my time. Will I be deprived of the 5 marks allotted for Secondary level examination? Ans - You need not worry. For applicants who appeared directly in Higher Secondary examination (and did not appear in Madhyamik or equivalent), the full score for the H.S. level examination will be counted as 15. This change will be carried out by the Selection Committee at the time of Interview only. However, at the time of applying online, such candidates will be able to see only a full mark of 10 for H.S. level examination. To accommodate such cases, the M.P/ Equivalent examination field has not been made a mandatory one.

3. How should the School level marks be entered? Will it be inclusive of the marks obtained in the Additional subject? Should the marks for all the subjects be considered? Ans – For the Secondary level, take the total of all compulsory papers but not that of any ‘Additional’ or ‘Optional’ subject. For the Higher Secondary level, take the four best marks. Under ‘full marks’, enter the full marks for only those four subjects. 4. I have entered a grade in the appropriate box under Block 1 of ‘Qualification’. Now, I want to write the ‘Percentage Equivalent’. But that box is disabled and I am not able to write anything there. What will I do? Ans - After writing the grade, press the ‘Tab’ button and wait for a few seconds. The box will be automatically enabled. Else, simply place the cursor in that box, and left click. The box will be enabled after a few seconds. You can even proceed to the next item (box) and left click. The box ‘Percentage Equivalent’ will be enabled. 5. I have passed my graduation examination in ‘General’ subjects (without Honours). How will I enter my Graduation marks? How will it be different from an applicant with an Honours subject? How will our final score differ? Ans - There are three separate queries. (a) Suppose you are an applicant for the post of Assistant Professor in Political Science. You have done your graduation (B.A. General) in Political Science, Sociology and Education and secured 720 marks out of 1200. You need to enter only 720 and 1200 in the appropriate boxes and then press the ‘Tab’ button. The computer will automatically calculate your percentage (60 %) and credit 9 to your score (60% of 15). After observing that the same has been correctly done, proceed to the next item (in this case, PG level examination.) (b) An applicant with Honours in Political Science will enter only his/her Honours marks. Suppose he/she has scored 480 out of 800 in Political Science (ignoring the marks obtained in the ‘pass’ subjects). This candidate will also enter 480 and 800 in the respective fields and proceed in the same manner as stated above. (c) The Honours candidate will be credited the same score 9 by the computer. However, this candidate will be later awarded a fixed and predetermined bonus marks in keeping with the spirit of the advertisement, which states that Honours in the same/relevant subject is a preferred

qualification. Similarly, an applicant scoring 480 out of 800 at the UG level with Honours in some other subject will enter only these marks, and if the experts decide that his UG degree is relevant for the post of Assistant Professor in Political Science, he, too, will be awarded the bonus marks, besides being awarded 9 out of 15. However, if the experts think that his subject is not relevant, he will be awarded only 9 out of 15 and not the bonus marks. 6. I am a whole time teacher drawing UGC scale of pay in a Private Institution affiliated to UGC. (a) Am I entitled to any age relaxation? And (b) if my age is within the permissible limit (without any relaxation), will I be awarded some credit for my experience?

Ans - (a) No, the benefit of age relaxation for existing teachers is exclusively preserved for those in Government-aided Colleges. (b) Yes, you will be awarded credit for your experience. Age relaxation for existing Teachers is an administrative issue involving service condition and is therefore outside the purview of the Commission, which is entrusted with the task of assessing the merit of a candidate. Hence, you will be awarded some credit for your experience, though you will not be entitled to any age relaxation. 7. I am a whole time teacher in a School. (b) No, the credit for experience will be awarded only for College/ University level teaching. 8. I want to apply for B.Ed Colleges/B.Ed departments as well as for General degree Colleges. (a) Will I have to apply twice? (b) Where will I enter the marks for B.Ed and M.Ed? (c) How will I be awarded scores for B.Ed/M.Ed? Ans – (a) Yes, two separate applications have to be submitted and the fees have to be paid twice. (b) Once you choose the option “B.Ed Colleges/B.Ed Departments of General Degree Colleges” as your College type, the fields for B.Ed and M.Ed level

qualifications will automatically be activated under Block 2 of “Qualifications”. Simply enter the relevant data in the boxes provided. (c) Enter data for both B.Ed and M.Ed. B.Ed is a sufficient eligibility condition only for M.A. degree holders in Education for vacancies in respect of Foundation Course. At present, no such vacancies (for Foundation Course) have been recorded in our books. You will therefore be awarded score for your M.Ed degree only which is the minimum training qualification for an applicant for a Methodology course. 9. I want to apply for the post of Librarian. I have done my UG (Hons) and PG in Zoology and then completed BLIS and MLIS. Where do I enter the marks for these levels – under ‘Mandatory Qualifications’ or under ‘Other Qualifications’? Ans - You should write the marks /percentage equivalent obtained at the B.LIS and M.LIS examination in the fields marked as UG and PG Level respectively under the Block 1 of ‘Qualifications’. You should enter the UG and PG (Zoology) marks/ percentage equivalents in the fields under the Block 3 of ‘Qualifications.’ 10. I want to apply for the post of Assistant Professor in Law. I have done my UG and PG in Political Science and then completed LLB and LLM. Where do I enter the marks for these levels? Ans - Such applicants should write the marks/ percentage equivalent obtained at the L.LB examination in the field marked as UG Level under the Block 1 of ‘Qualifications’. They should enter the LLM marks/ percentage equivalent in the field marked as PG Level under the same the Block 1 of ‘Qualifications’. Graduation/ Post Graduation marks/percentage equivalent in any other discipline or subject may be entered in any field under Block 3 of ‘Qualifications,’ though no extra credit has been earmarked for such additional qualification. 11. I want to apply for the post of Assistant Professor in Physical Education. I first did my Graduation and Post Graduation in Bengali and then completed my B.PEd and M.PEd. How do I enter my marks obtained at the various examinations? Ans - Such applicants should write the marks/ percentage equivalent obtained at the B.PEd examination in the field marked as UG Level under the Block 1 of ‘Qualifications’. They should enter the M.PEd marks/percentage equivalent in the field marked as PG Level under the same Block 1 of ‘Qualifications’. Graduation/ Post Graduation marks/percentage equivalent in any other discipline or subject may

be entered in any field under Block 3 of ‘Qualifications,’ though no extra credit has been earmarked for such additional qualification. 12. I entered some data on my publications. One publication does not have an ISSN/ISBN number. When I tried to save my entire data, it was shown as an incomplete entry, and the computer is asking me to write the ISSN/ISBN number. Ans – You should write NA in the relevant box. Don’t leave it blank. 13. According to WBCSC, there is no vacancy under my category in my subject. If any vacancy arises during the tenure of the advertisement and duly reported to the Commission within the stipulated period of 28th February, 2013, will I get the opportunity to apply? Ans – Certainly. We shall publish an ‘Addendum’ and accommodate such newly created vacancies. But if there is any vacancy under the ‘Unreserved’ category in your subject, you can apply, no matter what your category is. 14. Is there a maximum number of publications which I can submit? Shall I be awarded only on the basis of the publications that I am allowed to submit? Ans – Yes, you can submit the details of only 5 of your publications online. However, you are at liberty to bring all your publications before the interview board for the perusal of experts. The experts will assess the quality and quantity of your entire research effort and award marks to you. 15. I wish to apply for the subject ‘Plant Protection’ as there is a vacancy in this subject, but I don’t find it in the subject menu. What do I do? Ans - It is there, but not in alphabetical order. You will find it clustered near the end (after Zoology) along with two other subjects. Actually, as vacancies continue to be reported, we may find some new subjects in the future as well, which we shall put at the end, without maintaining the alphabetical order. 16. From when will the payment be accepted by the UBI? Ans - The first payment (for those who print the challan on 28.12.2012 itself) will be accepted only on 2nd January, 2013. Thereafter, keep a lag of two days after you print the Challan before you go to the bank.
