Zombie land
Zombie land is a horror/comedy about a shy inexperienced college student in Texas who has
managed to survive a zombie ridden America by following 30 rules. His rules include some things like
“look in the backseat,” “don’t be a hero” and “double tap.” He ends up meeting 3 other people who
in the end he calls his family. The genres are horror and comedy and due to that I think that this film
would be suitable for teenagers from the age of 16 and above. I think this because as it is also a
comedy there aren’t a lot of gory scenes. The film is mainly a comedy as it has more comical features
then it does horror. There are 4 characters. They are all known by their nicknames in order to stop
them from getting close. The main character is ‘Columbus’ who narrates the film as it goes on. Then
in comes ‘Tallahassee’ who is particularly violent in killing zombies as they killed his son. Both of
them meet ‘Wichita’ and ‘Little Rock’ who are sisters and trained con artists.
The story starts with Columbus trying to make his way home in order to see if his parents were still
alive. He then meets Tallahassee who reluctantly takes him on. The pair then meet Wichita and Little
Rock who con them out of their car by pretending that little rock was infected. The boys find
another car and follow them. Little rock and Wichita then take the boys hostage. They then go to LA
and decide to stay in a luxury place. They then meet Bill Murray to disguises himself as a zombie so
he can go out. Columbus shoots bill Murray accidently killing him. The girls then leave and go to the
funfair. The lights attract all the zombies which leave Wichita and little rock stuck. Columbus and
Tallahassee come to the rescue killing all they zombie and save Little Rock and Wichita.
In the mise-en-scene there was always a shot of a desolated city from the outside. When you went
in to the city zombies would start to pop up. At the end in the mise-en-scene there was a long shot
of the funfair lit up. It was supposed to show a beautiful safe place where Wichita and Little Rock
could stay but as the shot zoomed out you could see the zombies become attracted to those lights.
Zombies then start to walk towards the light showing that the safe place they had created wasn’t so
safe anymore.

Silent hill
Silent hill is a horror based film. It’s about a mother who takes their adopted child to a town called
silent hill. Arriving at silent hill Rose and her daughter meet in a car crash and rose awakens to find
her daughter Sharon missing; while searching for her daughter, she fights a local cult whilst
discovering Sharon’s connection to silent hill’s past. I think this film is for people over 17 as it is quite
scary but also as it has some aspects to it that a child would simply find horrifying. It is also the type
of film that is able to get peoples imagination to go into overdrive. This film also deals with issues
that are not appropriate such as things like child abuse and exorcisms. It may also attract games as
well because this film is adaptation of the game Silent Hill.
The genre is horror as it has things like disfigured creatures, a pyramid head that carries a large
machete. It also has features like dark lighting, misty roads and tall dark deserted buildings. In the
mise-en-scene there are misty roads that whenever people go in they don’t come back out. Also in
the middle of the road there was a massive fracture to stop people leaving silent hill. At the end
there is also a dead burnt body attached to a ladder.
There are 3 main characters in this film. Rose is a mother who takes her child to silent hill only to
have her daughter go missing and then has to search all over the creepy town for her. Rose is the
daughter who somehow has a connection to the town and then goes missing once her and her
mother enter silent hill. Cyril is a police officer who gets into a crash with rose and is stuck in silent
hill too. She helps Rose to find Sharon but is then later burnt alive by a cult for being a ‘witch’. There
are lots of supporting characters too. Christabella is the woman in charge of the cult. She is the one
who accused Cyril of being a witch and had Cyril burnt alive. Another character is pyramid head.
Pyramid head also appears in the game too. His pyramid head was supposed to show violence and
suffering as it was something executioners wore during the olden times. Pyramid head is one of the
most well-known characters in this film.
