The petroleum companies make allowances for it when bulk selling all types of petroleum products (diesel, gasoline, jet fuel etc). But the service stations do not have an allowance for temperature compensation at the pumps. So… FILL UP YOUR VEHICLE IN THE EARLY MORNING ...when the ground temperature is still cold All service stations have their fuel storage tanks buried directly below the pumps, in the ground. The colder the ground, the denser the fuel, when it gets warmer petrol expands, so when buying in the warmer afternoon or evening your gallon is not exactly a gallon. CHOOSE A FUEL EFFICIENT VEHICLE # Gasoline saving tip If you are thinking about buying a new vehicle then you need to consider buying a fuel efficient car. Selecting which vehicle to purchase is the most important fuel economy decision you'll make.
