Chapter 9 What do you mean Sara? Grey asked with deep interest. F.B.I., C.I.A., theyre all in on it. In fact, Even Interpol was on it. Once we were caught by Interpol, we were all scheduled to die the next day She trailed off. Grey shivered with the thought of what could have been. Find anything on Wulfs location? He asked No, but Im still looking. She replied Grey found himself deeply disturbed with this new information. Did this mean that Wulf was F.B.I.? If he was, then Grey would find himself in deep trouble if he were to be caught in the U.S. AH! Found it. Wulf has a tertiary compound in Russia. Sara exclaimed Thats fine and all, but Russia spans two continents. Where in Russia is this place? Grey questioned Hmmmm she trailed off The silenced in the room was deafening. It seemed like hours until she came up with an answer. Tunguska. she said when she finally broke the silence In the center of an impact crater. Its in the middle of nowhere, so even if we could fly there, it would be a long time until we reached the crater itself. Its okay mon! We could sneak in de U.S., and road trip it all de way! Alex added That sounds like the best idea Ive heard so far. Mike replied Anyone else up for a road trip? Grey looked at Sara and they both grudgingly agreed. Grey said that he wanted a bulletproof plan this time though, since they were on the world hit list. It took some time, but they finally settled on an idea. They searched through the abandoned compound for some kind of black cloth. They found a black table cloth that suited their needs perfectly. They loosely tied a rope around her body so that her wings were pressed flat against her body. They cut a hole in the middle of the cloth and draped it over her. Luckily, her beak was fairly short so once they had her outfit complete, she really resembled a Muslim woman with a long nose. Alex was to be the man, so they had him outfitted with another, white, modified tablecloth. They looked quite the part, save for the darkness of Alexs skin. Grey stepped back and laughed with the sheer cleverness of the ruse. They were to play the part of a Muslim man and woman, with two largely oversized bags, and take the place of two people on a cruise. They even used Wulfs computer and printer to create fake tickets. At first, they thought that they would have to abandon the disguises when they realized that Sara had trouble pulling Grey. Sara and Alex switched bags and they found that Mike was much lighter. Once they arrived at the seaport, they searched for about a half hour until they found a suitable cruise liner. They waited for a large group to board the ship and followed them up. They were more or less ignored by security, as far as Grey could tell through the small hole he had opened in the suitcase. They walked around the ship until they found a large supply closet that was out of the way. Mike and Grey got out of their suitcases and took deep breaths. The cool air felt refreshing on Greys lungs. Grey and Mike waited while Sara and Alex went to scout out the liner for a better place to stay for the trip. When they returned, they reported that there was a boiler room that looked empty and pretty well out of anyones way. Mike and Grey got back into their suitcases and were wheeled down into the boiler room. Once they arrived, they stepped out and began to get comfortable. After all, Grey thought, this was pretty much all they would be seeing for the next few days. Grey sat down in the corner and really looked at his hand for the first time since the fight. They were missing from just past the knuckle and were black with burnt hair. He buried his face in what was left of his hands and soon fell asleep.

Grey awoke to a dry mouth so he decided to go get a drink. A nearby staff bathroom suited his purposes nicely. Grey took a long drink from the faucet and looked into the mirror. A line of black, burnt fur stretched across the right side of his face. He was disgusted with himself for what he had allowed to happen there. Greys hatred for Wulf only intensified when the thought of Maria crossed his mind. She was with him somewhere and the very thought made Grey sick. He went back to the room and tried to clear his mind. He fell back asleep soon after laying down. Over the next few days, Grey was able to really look over some of the things that they had taken from the compound. They took Wulfs laptop, the dossiers that Grey looked at, a watch, and finally a journal that he had found in Wulfs desk. The dossiers contained a wealth of information about the group. Apparently, whoever kept track of these records had a way to measure telekinetic ability. The only other one who had shown any promise was Mike. On day four, Grey finally decided to speak to Mike about this. Hey Mike. What Grey? Mike asked. Have you tried to see if you have any um powers? Grey asked No, to tell the truth. Grey showed Mike how he had figured out controlling his telekinetic powers. Mike outstretched his hand and pointed it at an empty can in the corner. When he closed his fist and lifted, the can jittered violently. It took to the air, and Mike began to throw things around their small room. Grey ducked and narrowly missed a paper cup. He turned to Mike and began to laugh, until the cup made a round trip. As it spilled its contents all over Grey, Mike laughed hysterically. Their laughter woke up Sara, whom had been sleeping soundly in the corner until now. She scolded them until she checked the time and saw that it was already ten in the morning. She turned over and shook Alex. He didnt respond, so she shook him again. He still didnt respond. Grey punched him lightly in the arm, but he still didnt wake. Grey became very concerned when he noticed that Alex looked very pale. He knelt down and felt for a pulse. Alexs heart gave Grey a resounding message that it was still there. Grey looked for a rising and falling of his chest. Alex was still breathing, but Grey simply could not find out the reason for Alexs mysterious ailment. Alex was in and out of consciousness for the next few hours. Grey noticed that his hair began to change color. The next time Alex awoke, Grey began to question him. Alex, whats wrong with you? I I dont know mon. While you were all roughin wit dat crazy mon, I was tryin to rescue de girl. Alice she hit me up wit sometin in a needle. Alex rasped through choppy breaths. Did she say what it was? Grey asked No Grey checked the dossier to see if he could figure out what Alice had injected into Alex. He didnt have any luck with the paper documents, so he turned to Wulfs journal. He leafed through the pages until he hit the last entry. It read Today is a monumentous occasion. I have finally taken the surgery out of the fusion process. It takes longer to take effect then I would have liked, and there are more side effects than I would have liked, but the process now only has one step. A single injection is all that it takes to initiate the fusion process. Grey stopped reading, because at this point he had pieced together what had happened.
