COMMISSIONING PROCEDURE OF GENERATOR FOR FIRST SYNCHRONISATION
AT STANDSTILL 1. INSULATION RESISTANCE (PH-E ,PH- PH AS APPLICABLE ) MEASUREMENT OF THE FOLLOWING TO BE TAKEN i) PILOT EXCITER ii) MAIN EXCITER iii) GENERATOR 2.WINDING RESISTANCE MEASUREMENT OF THE FOLLOWING TO BE TAKEN iv) PILOT EXCITER v) MAIN EXCITER vi) GENERATOR

3. ROTOR IMPEDANCE MEASUREMENT, GROUNDFAULT DETECTION 4. TESTING OF PTs, CTs AND ALL RELAYS 5. LOOP CHECKING OF ALL PROTECTION CIRCUITS AND PRIMARY INJECTION TEST 6. LIST OF RECOMMENDED RELAY TESTING & RELAY SETTINGS KEPT 7. GT BACKCHARGING AND SYNCHRONISATION CIRCUIT CHECKING 8. READINGS OF STATOR CORE,WINDING AND TOOTH TEMPERATURES,HOT GAS AND COLD GAS ,SEAL OIL TEMPERATURES,GENERATOR AND EXCITER BEARING TEMPERATURES,GENERATOR FRONT AND REAR VIBRATIONS, PRIMARY AND SECONDARY WATER ,SEAL OIL PRESSURES.( GENERATOR PARAMETERS) 9. EARTH SWITCHES OF BOTH GCBs SHOULD BE OPENED . 10. ALL THREE PHASES OF GENERATOR TERMINALS ARE TO BE ISOLATED FROM GCB AND SHORTED TOGETHER FOR SHORT CIRCUIT TEST. AT FULL SPEED NO LOAD SHORT CIRCUIT TEST 11. GENERATOR MAY BE EXCITED IF 90 % SPEED CONTACT FROM TURBINE CONTROL PANEL ALLOWS TO DO SO. 12. BY INCREASING THE EXCITATION CURRENT,GENERATOR CURRENT MAY BE NOTED. A GRAPH BETWEEN THESE TWO PARAMETERS MAY BE

DRAWN. FROM WHICH, SHORT CIRCUIT RATIO CAN BE CALCULATED AND COMPARED WITH THAT OF THE TEST REPORT SUPPLIED ALONG WITH GENERATOR. 13. CHECK FOR THE OPERATION OF CURRENT OPERATED PROTECTIONS LIKE VOLTAGE DEPENDANT OVERCURRENT,OVERCURRENT 14. AFTER PUTTING OFF THE EXCITER AND TRIPPING THE PRIME MOVER, THREE PHASE TERMINAL SHORTINGS OF GENERATORS MADE MAY BE OPENED. 15. GENERATOR PARAMETERS TO BE TAKEN AT THIS TIME BEFORE & AFTER TRIPPING PRIME MOVER OPEN CIRCUIT TEST 16. GENERATOR MAY BE EXCITED AND 21 KV TERMINAL VOLTAGE MAY BE ACHIEVED 17. OVERVOLTAGE TEST MAY BE CARRIED OUT . 18. NEGATIVE PHASE SEQUENCE PROTECTION MAY BE CARRIED OUT BY SHORTING ANY TWO PHASES 19. LINKS BETWEEN GCB AND GENERATOR TERMINALS MAY BE PUT. 20. FIELD FAILURE,UNDER FREQUENCY TRIPS CAN BE CARRIED OUT BY ADJUSTING THE SET VALUES. 21. GENERATOR PARAMETERS TO BE TAKEN AGAIN. SYNCHRONISATION 22. GENERATOR TRANSFORMERS HAS TO BE BACKCHARGED. GRID VOLTAGE OF ALL THREE PHASES IN THE RELAY PANEL TO BE MEASURED. 23. IF PHASE IN-PHASE OUT OF GENERATOR AND GRID SUPPLY ARE TO BE CHECKED AND FOUND OK,THEN CHECK SYNC RELAY GIVES PERMISSION TO CLOSE GENERATOR CIRCUIT BREAKER WHICH CAN BE MONITORED VIA SYNCHROSCOPE. 24. IF NO PROTECTION OPERATES, GCB CAN BE CLOSED. 25. LOW FOR WARD POWER OF GENERATOR MAY BE CHECKED WHENEVER THE PRIME MOVER TRIPS,GENERATOR WILL TRIP ON THIS PROTECTION. 26. REVERSE POWER PROTECTION WILL COME INTO PICTURE ONLY IF LOW FORWARD POWER PROTECTION FAILS. 27. GENERATOR PARAMETERS MAY BE TAKEN JUST BEFORE AND AFTER SYNCHRONISATION AND AT VARIOUS LOADS ,STEPBYSTEP, UPTO FULL LOAD. 28. GENERATOR MAY BE LOADED IF ALL PARAMETERS ARE NORMAL.
