As with all allergies, it’s best to check with individual restaurants to confirm there’s no cross-contamination with products that do contain gluten.

99 Restaurant (national chain with multiple locations, 99restaurants.com). Offers a separate gluten-free menu with salads, “steakburgers,” shrimp skewers, cedar plank salmon, ice cream sundaes and more.

Abate Apizza and Seafood Restaurant (129 Wooster St., New Haven, 203-776-4334). Gluten-free pizza and gluten-free beer served.

Aleia’s Gluten Free Bakery (4 Pin Oak Dr., Branford, 203-488-5556, aleias.com). Culinary Institute of America-trained wholesale baker creates cookies, breads, stuffing, croutons and more, found in markets across the state.

Bell’ Amici Pizza Restaurant (516 Route 80, Guilford, 203-457-9111, bellamicirestaurant.com). Gluten-free menu includes chicken Parmigiana, wild mushroom ravioli, three-cheese tortellini in Alfredo sauce, pizzas and more.

Bugaboo Creek Steak House (national chain with multiple locations, bugaboocreek.com). Offers a menu created in cooperation with the Gluten Intolerance Group (gluten.net), including salads (prepared in separate bowls), smoked baby back ribs, cheesesteak (order without bun or

Burtons Grill (100 Evergreen Way, South Windsor, 860-432-4575, burtonsgrill.com). Contemporary, upscale casual dining with gluten-free options (risotto fritters, salmon picatta, certified angus ground chuck burgers on gluten-free buns, warm chocolate torte, etc.) made in a “from-scratch” kitchen, in partnership with the Gluten-Free Restaurant Awareness Program (glutenfreerestaurants.org).

Café Romeo (534 Orange St., New Haven, 203-865-2233, cafe-romeo.com). Gluten-free choices (frittata with house-made sausage, tuna salad puttanesca, etc.) are marked with a “G” on this modern Italian café menu.

Claire’s Corner Copia (1000 Chapel St., New Haven, 203-562-3888, clairescornercopia.com) Selections change daily; recent gluten-free options spotted at this Vegetarian landmark include lemon poppy cupcakes and coconut macaroons.

Carrabba’s Italian Grill (31 Red Stone Road, Manchester, 860-643-4100, plus other locations, carrabbas.com). Traditional Italian eats, with a separate gluten-free menu listing spicy Tuscan fish chowder, salads (made without croutons, in separate bowls), grllled salmon with a choice of 15 gluten-free fish sauce toppings.

Chuck and Augie’s Restaurant (Student Union, University of Connecticut, Storrs, 860-486-5633, chuckandaugies.uconn.edu). An extensive gluten-free menu offers choices such as sesame-encrusted tuna with wasabi mayo on a gluten free roll and shrimp scampi with brown rice pasta.

Dairy Queen (national chain with multiple locations, dairyqueen.com). Many treats are gluten-free, including vanilla and chocolate soft-serve, hot fudge, caramel and other toppings, the Dilly Bar, certain varieties of the Blizzard and the MooLatté (watch out for the hazelnut-flavors, though — they’re not included).

Serves house-made, gluten-free pizza twice weekly, with organic toppings and lactose-free sheep’s cheese.

Divine Treasures (Parkade Plaza, Middle Turnpike West, Manchester, 860-643-2552, divinetreasureschocolates.com). Gorgeous gluten-free and vegan chocolates made without the use of refined sugars.

Dolci Lounge (932 State St., New Haven, 203-764-2069). Chic martini and chocolate bar with modern American small plates, including several gluten-free choices (such as cavatelli), marked “GF” on the menu.

Edge of the Woods (379 Whalley Ave., New Haven, 203-787-1055, edgeofthewoodsmarket.com). Natural and organic foods market with an all-vegetarian hot bar and bakery, including gluten-free options.

Eggs Up Grill (1462 Portland Cobalt Road, Portland, 860-342-4968, theeggsupgrill.com). Offers a great gluten-free menu (including pancakes, French toast, muffins and bagels). Co-owner Kimberly Greenlaw herself eats a gluten-free diet and understands first-hand the needs of preparing gluten-free food.

The Elephant Trail (239 E. Main St., Avon Village, Avon, 860-677-0065, theelephanttrail.com). Most of their classic Thai and modern Southeast Asian dishes can be ordered gluten-free, according to the menu.

Fratelli Market (17 Cedar Heights Road, Stamford, 203-322-1632, fratellimarketct.com). Italian deli with a variety of gluten-free pizzas and pasta dishes (cheese lasagna, potato pierogi, etc.).

Fresh City (Bradley International Airport, Terminal A, Windsor Locks, 860-292-1580, freshcity.com). Gluten-free menu includes stir fry choices, burritos served in bowls (no tortilla), salads, soups and dairy-free smoothies.

Georgie’s Diner (427 Elm St., West Haven, 203-933-1000, georgies-diner.com). In addition to classic diner fare are many gluten-free options, prepared according to GFRAP guidelines. Omelettes prepared with gluten-free utensils; sandwiches made on gluten-free bread; and choices include a Waldorf salad, chicken Parmesan (made with gluten-free bread crumbs) and more.

Gilbert’s Gourmet Goodies (Sandy Hook, 203-733-8217, gilbertsgourmetgoodies.com). Cookies and ready-to-bake cookie dough made without wheat, gluten, peanuts, nuts, soy, milk, corn, corn syrup, trans fats or preservatives, sold in stores across our state and by mail order. Their apple crumb pie was awarded first place in the “outstanding gluten-free” category in this year’s Connecticut Specialty Food Association product awards competition; last year — the first year the category was introduced — their snickerdoodle cookies took first prize.

Grandma’s Goodies (920 Mountain Road, Cheshire, 203-598-0157, glutenfreedessertsconnecticut.com). Everything from gourmet popcorn, tea breads, chocolate-covered pretzels, cakes and more. Recipes taste-tested by gluten-eaters for quality control.

JD’s Best Gluten Free Pizza (33A S. Main St., East Windsor, 203-340-4215, jdsbestglutenfreepizza.com). Gluten-free breadsticks, pizza crust shells and traditional Neapolitan-style pizza available by mail order, flash-frozen and delivered on dry ice.

La Rosticceria (500 Village Walk, Guilford, 203-458-8885, guilfordtakeout.com). Take-out prepared foods deli offers several gluten-free items.

Luigi’s Apizza (323 Washington Ave., North Haven, 203-234-9666, luigisapizza.com). Both gluten-free pizza and gluten-free beer served.

Mangetout Organic Café (140 State St., New London, 860-444-2066, mangetoutorganic.com). Touts an “alternative to mainstream” menu, including gluten-free Thai lime chicken salad, gluten-free (and vegan) chocolate tofu pudding and more.

Max Burger (124 Lasalle Road, W. Hartford, 860-232-3300, maxrestaurantgroup.com). Burgers can be ordered on gluten-free rolls supplied by Glastonbury‘s Dee’s One Smart Cookie (deesonesmartcookie.com). New Grist gluten-free, amber lager is available on the beer menu, too.

Mrs. Green’s Natural Market (1916 Post Road, Fairfield, 203-255-4333; 950 High Ridge Road, Stamford, 203-329-1313, plus locations in Putnam and Westchester counties, New York, mrsgreens.com). Substitutes for nearly everything a gluten-less diet can be found here, on several shelves of crackers, bread, cereals, pancake mix and even bread crumb mix for stuffing, all made from rice and other such ingredients.

Nature’s Grocer (81 East St., Vernon, 860-870-0020, naturesgrocervernon.com). A natural foods store with a gluten-free bakery and kitchen. All items (muffins, brownies, cookies, sandwiches, salads, wraps, pizza, etc.) are prepared in a dedicated gluten-free facility (they use no wheat, barley or rye products). The only non-gluten-free food used are pre-made flour tortillas for wraps, which are put on separate cutting boards and cut with separate utensils.

New Morning Natural and Organic (738 Main St. South, Woodbury, 203-263-4868, newmorn.com). Natural, organic gluten-free foods and eco-friendly products.

Olde World Brick Oven Pizza (1957 Whitney Ave., North Haven, 203-287-8820). Traditional brick oven pie available with gluten-free crusts, from French Meadow Bakery.

Olive Garden (national chain with multiple locations, olivegarden.com). Gluten-free versions of menu staples available such as gluten-free penne pasta with marinara sauce and herb-grilled chicken, steaks and salmon.

Outback Steak House (outback.com). Choices (seared ahi tuna, ribs, rack of lamb, etc.) designated with a “GF” on the menu.

Paperback Café (210 Main St., Old Saybrook, 860-388-9718). Full gluten-free breakfast, lunch and dinner menus prepared in cooperation with the Shoreline Gluten Free GIG Association, featuring locally-caught seafood, in a casual setting.

P.F. Chang’s China Bistro (national chain with multiple locations, including 230 Tresser Blvd., Stamford, 203-363-0434, pfchangs.com). Boasts 17 items on a gluten-free menu (spiced chicken in lettuce cups, rice noodles stir-fried in gluten-free sauce, etc.) with gluten-free soy sauce available, too.

Pizzetta (7 Water St., Mystic, 860-536-4443, pizzettamystic.com). Gluten-free crusts available for pizzas made with local, organic ingredients (including dairy-free cheese options) in an eco-friendly eatery. Look for their shiny red, recycled Company 77 Mobile Pizza Unit Fire Truck, making stone-baked pies on the road at festivals, etc. (mobilepizzaunit.com).
