Go back to sleep By Devin Walker

“Why were you plotting against me?” I say to one of the four dead bodies on the floor. The body is still, calm, light in texture but filled with sorrowful wounds dripping with crimson life. I don’t even remember this one’s name, or the one sitting against the wall, or the two on the ground reaching for one another for one last futile embrace. All I know is they were going to feed me to them, the awaked ones who know only hunger and anger, and so I took action. “It’s what anyone else would’ve done in my position” I thought to myself as I pick up one of those who I had put to rest and threw him or her out of the window to feed the hoard of awakened dead. Then he came, the man who wore red and black, and who got me out of the prison. He helped me get to this building where I met the others, and it was he who warned me of their plot to betray me, and warned me of my mother’s plot all those years ago. The man walks over to the window and joins me in watching the body be consumed by those horrible beings, and without turning to me says “Well that was stupid.” I ask “How was that stupid, I was just—“He interrupts “You were just letting them know there was something up here.” He turns to me with those cold dead eyes and says “You could kill all these people in one room without a peep of noise but once you get in the clear, like all the other times you end up doing the stupidest things.” Before I can say anything we both hear a sound and I look through the hotel door’s peep hole and it’s a man running down the hall. I back away from the door slowly but trip over one of the bodies and let out a yelp, and in getting up the man come to the door begging for me to open it saying “Please! For the love of God let me in, they’re right behind me please let me in!” My eyes widen to the man’s statement, he’s lead them

right to us. I look over to the man in black and red as he stands tall with his arms crossed and just shakes his head in disapproval. I turn my back to the door as I listen to the man beg and cry until I hear the all too familiar scream of the damned. My heart changes and I decide to kill the man at the door and at least spare him from the being ripped apart. I throw open the door knife in hand, the same one I used to kill the others, and thrust it into back but as he falls I’m too late the creatures are here. I pull out a shotgun I gained from one of those I killed and start shooting each creature never letting up blowing of limbs as they charge down the blood soaked hall. “Why won’t you go back to sleep? I said go back to sleep!” I scream at the creatures as I blast them, though they continue to come ever closer. I start backing into the room but all the sudden I feel a sharp pain and my left leg drops. The man wasn’t dead and as I turn back around one of the creatures grabs me, biting a chunk out of my shoulder. It takes no time for the rest to join in, but as I’m being bitten and scratched apart, I see the man in black and red look at me and then cracking a smile exposing his sharpen teeth. “See you soon, and thanks for all the fun.” He laughed as he disappeared. That was the moment I fell to rest and screamed for eternity.
