Google SEO 21-25 21

Google Tracking Safari Users? Is Google really playing ‘Big Brother’ to Apple Safari users? According to reports, the search engine giant is doing just that by bypassing privacy protection in the browser. Wall Street Journal highlighted this issue by citing a Stanford University researcher who has reported that Google is ignoring anti tracking features incorporated into the Safari browser. Google platforms are reportedly able to log user activity on the OS X as well as the iOS versions of the same. Google has however, claimed that the reports have ‘mischaracterized’ the issue. In a statement to the press, Google Senior Vice President Communications and Public policy has said that the code is used to provide service to Google users who have logged into their account. Nonetheless, the company has disabled the ‘offending’ components since and has hopefully appeased Apple and its users. http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2153478/Google-Accused-of-Tracking-Safari-Users

22. Google Gets a Share Box Google is constantly looking for ways to enhance its service by adding new updates. The latest update to be revealed by the company is a new ‘share box’. This update has been added to the Google bar –the navigation that spans across all Google products. While there’s no certainty of its launch date, many users are now noticing the share box; especially if they use Google+. The share box is also visible on other Google offerings such as Google docs, Google Reader and Gmail. The box is expected to become available for YouTube and Google Chrome in the near future as well. http://www.webpronews.com/google-home-page-gets-the-share-box-2012-02

23. Google usurps Competition

Google Latitude is a fairly popular platform for faithful Google users who enjoy having their whereabouts know to the world- by ‘checking in’ at locations on a map. Latitude is even more convenient for Android phone users who have access to ease-of-use functions to make the ‘check in’ process easier. Not satisfied, Google has now upped the ante by adding another feature to the Latitude functionality. Users can now have their presence noted on a leader board and earn points when checking into a given location. A ranking is then awarded according to frequency of visits to that location. As convenient as it is, that is something on offer from rival site Foursquare as well. So is Google trying to give it competition? Watch this space for more.

24. Google Chrome Password Generator for Account Protection Identity theft and privacy invasion are common threats on the internet. And the only way to protect against them is to come up with a password that really works. What’s more, you now have added support from Google Chrome. Chrome now has a new extension to help solve the problem. The extension works by first detecting when a user is on a page that requires a password. If a signup page is detected, it will put a small key symbol in the password box. Clicking on the symbol will open a dialogue box asking the user whether they want Chrome to manage their password for them. Upon confirmation, a new dialogue box will pop up with a random password to log in with. While this can definitely go a long way in ensuring peace of mind- as far as passwords are concerned- it remains to be seen how many people will actually trust Google Chrome to come up with a password for them. http://www.webpronews.com/chrome-password-generator-2012-02

Google and the Great Trust Deficit If reports are to be believed, - as dependent as we are on Google- the internet search engine giant is losing its reputation of being trustworthy with each passing day. This new revelation has a lot to do with recent reports about how Google’s tried to manipulate the general public by violating their privacy. Things that are being looked upon suspiciously include changes

in their privacy policy, Google’s SPYW in Kenya, over the line personalization for Search Plus Your World and the most recent- ‘cookiegate’. However, even though we don’t trust Google, there isn’t a revolt in the horizon anytime soon. After all, even though users typically end up sharing much of their personal details with the search giant, very few would actually opt out- whether due to laziness or otherwise. So once more, Google prevails. http://www.seroundtable.com/trust-google-14747.html
