4. Below is a hypothetical fact pattern. Assume you’re the news reporter covering the story. Please write a hard news story lead of no more than three sentences in the space below. Then write a soft news story lead no more than three sentences in the space below. (Ignore if you are applying ONLY to be a photographer.) A girl, Katy Perry, was robbed Friday night on York Road. She was wearing a jean skirt, black flip-flops, and a green Loyola sweatshirt. Friends of the girl, a Loyola sophomore, had been running to the corner to catch a taxi when the robbing occurred near Swallow at the Hollow. Loyola police arrived 10 minutes later. Justin Timberlake, a senior, made the phone call. “It all happened so quickly,” said Timberlake. “One minute she [Perry] was talking on her phone, and the next I saw this guy grab her purse and start running.” “That’s what you get for being drunk and stupid,” said Clark Kent, a Towson University junior. Baltimore City police announced Saturday morning that they had apprehended a suspect. The suspect matched the profile of the robber, described by witnesses on the scene as wearing a white cap, dark jeans, and having a skuzzy-looking beard and greasy long hair. The man was walking down Charles Street with a brown purse, according to police. “She definitely had a brown purse with her Friday night,” Loyola sophomore Maria Shriver said. No one was injured in the robbery. Perry has since retrieved her purse, and she’s pressed charges against the suspect, who is still in the custody of Baltimore City police.
