Psychology – Classical Conditioning Project You and a partner need to choose a subject (or subjects) and conduct a classical conditioning procedure involving them. If you want to work alone, because some of you are so busy and it’s tough to line up schedules, that’s fine. I would encourage you to work with someone, however, particularly since I’m giving you awhile to do this. This handout is being given to you on Monday, September 19 and you will be given 15-20 minutes in class (today) and some of the class period on Tuesday, September 20, to brainstorm and try to come up with a plan. You must then carry out the conditioning process and submit a brief report on Wednesday, September 28, detailing the events that took place.

Requirements (for report) The report has to be at least 1 page in length, but should not be over 2 pages in length. This is merely an informative report and is not meant to involve extremely deep reflection or analysis. Please have a title page with your name/s, date, period, and project title. This way you don’t need to put anything in the paper itself, only text. Names will not be necessary in the report, since you have a title page. Only text should be in the report. Formatting = 12-point font, Times New Roman. One inch margins all the way around. Doublespaced. First half of the report - Process (1/2 - 1 page)  Explain the process that you chose to implement, step by step. Be specific; include all details! o If it seems like a step is missing, I’ll “ask” in writing, which means a loss of points.  Procedure must properly fit the traditional CC paradigm – NS, UCS, UCR, CS, CR o Correctly identify/label these in your report; don’t assume that I know! Second half of the report – Results and Reflection (1/2 - 1 page)  Give final results o Was this successful? o How did you measure this? o What was the subject’s reaction?  Problems/Reflection o What would you do differently (if you did this again)? o Were there any surprises or confounds? Should be able to give at least one. o Give at least one thing that you learned from doing this project.

Scoring This report will be worth a total of 75 points. Points break down like this……  Formatting – 10 points  Process – 30 points o 15 for process; 15 for the 5 CC terms, or 3 points apiece  Results & Reflection – 30 points o 15 for final results (5 for each of the three bullets listed above) o 15 for problems/reflection (5 for each of the three bullets listed above)  Spelling/grammar – 5 points o 1 point deducted for every spelling error or “major” grammatical error (they’re, their, there – for example) o You can accrue negative points if there are more than 5 errors
